The majority of cinematics being real-time isn't evidence of a SMALLER budget, it's evidence of a BIGGER budget. Other games (Blizzard games included) would not have had non-pre-rendered cinematics, period.
Remember WC3? How many cinematics did that game have, again? Or did it also suffer from lack of campaign funding, I wonder.
Yet, in WC3 each cinematic felt very cilmatic and purpously ended each chapter. (maybe the undead one was a bit boring, yet it showed how mystic and powerful powers the burning legion had in Archimonde.)
Ever since Frozen Throne though I've been suspecting Blizz of going cheap with the pre-rendered cinematics. Compared with W3 that had a cinematic for each chapter plus an gameintro and a campaign intro, FT only had two very non-dynamic cinematics for the entire expansion. (BW had more and wilder than that.)
And besides, the amount of minutes the pre-rendered cinematics amount to in SC2 compared with WC3 is much less.
Looking at the cinematics, you can see how this mentality of putting more stuff, that ends up being mediocre instead of focusing on few superpolished elements shows up in more than just gameplay/storytellingprogression.

Re: Voice actors, who is on the chopping list?
Er... I loved the TFT cinematics actually. Granted there could've been more and they could've taken more time and money to properly treat the fight between Arthas and Illidan, but what was there was still superb. I do agree that the pre-rendered cinematics in SC 2 seem "pointless", focusing on relatively miscellaneous events and offering little in the way of conclusions or revelations.

I'm not saying that the TFT pre-rendered cinematics were bad. I was just pointing out that compared with WC3's way of handling pre-rendered cinematics and they way pre-rendered cinematics were used in SC and BW respectively, the TFT pre-rendered cinematics, did not contribute with any action sequences and did only portrait the beginning and ending very statically. They tried to hold the spectator in awe with what is - and this is a fact - cheaper animation.
I take it as Blizz already here started to focus on producing cinematics cheaper, others may not, and may argue that by removing the otherwise traditional action sequences they highlighted other artistic elements, like the landscapes.

Anyone else ridiculously amused that Tricia Helfer is nominated for a SpikeTV VGA?
That's why they are crap. All their nominations are bullshit most of the time and they have no idea what they are doing!

I'd like to see Blizzard keep all its original voice actors/actresses... Nobody is going to leave the team, hopefully. I don't really understand why people don't like Kerrigan's voice and want to vote it out? I think she's doing fine :(

What's your definition of original? For example Kerrigan being Glynnis Talken who worked with Blizz for many years also voicing characters in Diablo, or being Trisha Helfer?

I believe that Spikes MO is to appeal to the mainstream by nominating the most popular of every category. I believe that Tricia happens to be very popular among the gamer demograph and she acted in SCII. So I'm pretty sure that they do know what they're doing.
That doesn't mean I'm saying that the awards aren't a load of shit though, they are, though they actually have some decent lists this year for a change.

Glynnis was also casted for SC2, and was on the project for several years until something happened which has not been revealed by both parts. Clotworthy also got sacked at one point but got recasted some time later.
Point being that there really isn't one original if we look at the production of SC2. Which means that choosing Helfer also could let Blizz change her also during the next years of SC2 production if whatever secret reason they can conjure shows up.
Inconsistency is the last thing I wanna experience in a Blizz product, which people usually are so fond of calling "polished".

Yeah, well things are always changing. As we know, Helfer is an TV/Movie actress, and she might be leaving in the next episode if she decides to focus more on her movie career... Plus money is another possible reason for anyone to choose whether they go or stay.

Actually I'm pretty sure that's all of it. As long as the nominee isn't objectively terribad then they can get in on fame alone.

You and me both, my friend. I'm also pissed that they said the romance plots in ME2 are there just as a distraction, not like the 'REAL' romance plots in ME1, which will be continued in ME3. If they fuck it up and I can't continue my romance with Tali in ME3... heads are gonna roll.

I don't know where you heard this, but to clarify - Blizzard is not your neighborhood friendly game developer. They figured most of their sales will come from koreans and new customers who could give a shit less about Glynnis. Did any of you NOT buy SC2 because of her being removed as voice actor? :D

Re: Voice actors, who is on the chopping list?
And yet they agreed to take Robert back, the guy who did Arcturus and they want to keep the voice caster who did Tychus, Glynnis didn't take the rejection like a professional and Robert did, Glynnis had a history of working with Blizzard outside of Starcraft... yeah, sorry but by process of deduction I'm guessing that she did something Blizzard did not like.

Damn it, Spychi. Why? Why did you have to go and remind me that we could've had Glynnis' godlike voice in this game?
I would like to work on HotS, I would like to see what direction they are taking and I don't want the same thing they did with WoL - by that I mean, writing stupid lines and scenario that is not belivable - also I would like the game to be epic
I never wanted otherwise, but i still will bash them for the first part\
I bet that I would bring alot of good stuff with the upcoming game, yet i doubt that they would like to her me or listen to reason

Re: Voice actors, who is on the chopping list?
Spy Chi pretty much just nuked the thread with an ultimatum. I don't think anything anyone says can disprove that Talken would have been a better choice.
Like I said, Metzen and friend's egos are way too big...big as their salaries...and they can do whatever the hell they want because they were founders. The series didn't really lose much financially, maybe even benefited from the high profile name of Tricia.
Now that I think of it, I think Metzen probably played Mass Effect 2...heard EDI's voice and thought "Shit, SC2 MUST have Caprica Six in it. MUST!!!!!"
I think it's set in stone guys...
Back to topic : I really don't think anyone will be cut at this moment. They kept Paul Eiding (or w/e) for the protoss Judicator (COLONEL!?!?!!?!!!!!!!!!..............). Half the voice actors are Metzen and probably developers now. My point is that they know a large volume of people buy it for the multiplayer component, single player sits on the back burner for them. It's pretty evident given the budget. I wouldn't be surprised if Battle.net 2.0 cost more than the budget for SC2's single player. Asides from Tricia's pay, they're paying peanuts to everyone else. Metzen is the full time writer for all their games, so he could've written SC2's storyline while waiting in line at Starbucks.
Who knows?

Re: Voice actors, who is on the chopping list?
Taking a more positive spin on things, which voice actors do you hope will return (particularly those whose characters are unlikely to) to voice more characters?
The only reservations I have is that I'm not familiar enough with Fennoy's work (and thus, his ability to create different voices) and that his voice as Tosh was so distinctive to begin with. The other two are veteran voice actors whose range and bodies of work I pretty much like.

Kerrigan and Zeratul sucked so much in this story, both in terms of voice acting and dialogue. I'd be happy if they get killed off early on in the next game just so I never have to suffer through their irritating monologues.
Jimmy and Tychus were both all-stars. I'd love it if they ushered in Tychus as the new leader of Zerg.
