Death animations: yes/no/how much?
Hello all! New guy here!
There is one thing i would like to hear from you. From what i saw in latest videos there are very few death animations present in SC2. There are still some, but it's nothing like in Death animations video. Probably they cut it out so gameplay may run smoothly (in epic scale battles this is necessary) but to be honest - i will surly be disapointed if there wont be any in the campaign. I think that death animations are huge + to game "artistic" and "creative" side, even so - explicit deaths are core for dark and gory starcraft universe (there are no fairies and shiny magic here...). Also, bloody and organic/limbs-spliting effects (specialy zerg!) gives you the feel like you are really there! So, imo - it will improve gamers fond to starcraft even more!
Here is my opinion what they should do:
-Single player: in smaler missions put maximum, most complicated death animatons; in bigger missions with much more units put simple deaths.
(still, i strongly dislike too simplified deaths: zerg with simple red splash; protoss with simple, blue -puff!- "explosion" (looks like cloud to me), etc...
-Multiplayer: let there be some kind of settings where you could have options about it, so enthusiasts would enjoy realistic battles, but pro players, on the other hand, would have games that focus more on gameplay, less on animations.
I'll finish with: "Don't sacrifice ALL creativity and awsome elements for gameplay sake"
What do you think?
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
Pretty sure death animations haven't been completed yet. All the death animations that have been shown have been included in the press event video that was released.
I'm sure they'll include all death animations even for multiplayer. It was just the physics that they removed for the multiplayer.
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
I'm with Pandonetho. They just weren't implemented in that build yet. Blizzard wouldn't have bothered to show off the death animations if they weren't going to make the game.
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
I don't remember who said that but a guy who recently played the game said in his article that there was lots of different death animation.
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
Just like StarCraft's. Nothing more, nothing less.
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
Well.. i felt like (after reading few articles from authors that played in recent Blizz events) that players actualy dont wanna see many death effects becouse (they believe):
1. it's "to much for their eyes" and someting about nausea after few games.
2. it will lagg and make chaos in mass fights.
Glad to see that you guys appreciate death animations, blood, and all... couse i was getting wrong picture about that.

Chaos, we can talk about (being able to spot when a unit is dead ASAP is good, and some of the earlier death anims sucked at it). Lag, no. Lag is a function of networking, and death animations are not sent across the network.
The most that might happen is a slightly lower framerate, but that's very difference from lag.
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
I would very much like the setting ingame where you can change the lvl of death animations up and down. For the player trying to be pro and for the guy just chilling with the pretty units.
Fx. Watch the new death animation video again. at the end where its TvZ try and see how large the Hydra slash death is. they die in a 50% circle larger then their alive state(abit over the top for multiplayer imo)
Re: Death animations: yes/no/how much?
Didin't we just have that 2 months ago?
Same discussion about clutter and "should it be controllable" and whatnot?
*sighs*
Time for the beta to start, honestly :(

I think you are right. I really hope the SCII campaign editor has all the features needed to create awesome things. i.e. all the old SC1 heroes & special buildings, special death animations and things like that.
BTW you also choose Zeratul as avatar?
