Re: The Definitive SC Text
FYI, lots of people seem to miss this bit from the article:

We will refer to retcons in this article using the word’s broadest sense - in that retcons include not only direct contradictions but changes in how previous facts were interpreted by fans.
Not every dictionary counts a retcon only as a direct contradiction that has no way around it. So if you're trying to show that these aren't retcons, they are in the broad sense. If you're trying to find alternative interpretations though, I'm all aboard.
On the Warp Gate issue, WoL confirms that warp-in is new:
Quote:
Swann
Y'know, I been watchin' the logs. Those damn protoss are still way ahead of us. I can't believe some of the stunts they can pull off.
Raynor
Tell me about it! They've learned some new tricks since the last time we fought.
Swann
I mean c'mon, since when could they warp in guys just anywhere? I thought they needed some kinda gateway at least!

Dude, that avatar above me is ridonkulous. I cannot address the poster directly. I'm not worthy.

So in other words... if someone says something that fans begin to take as true then that thing becomes a retcon until someone else rectifies said thing as not true at all and fans begin to believe the initial retcon a false?
It's no problem or anything - but perhaps you should call the 'fan thing' a 'fan confusion' or 'fan misconception' or whatever.
Of course, SC has practically no lore whatsoever except the novels and the campaign write ups. Which is why fans might eventually get confused about these smaller things and begin calling them 'retcons'.

Sure - but they had gates on Aiur and said gates were probably called warp gates (play BW toss campaign again to rectify this).
It's not new technology. But it's a new application. Sure, it's confusing.
But also, Stettman doesn't know this. And Raynor doesn't usually share stuff that he knows with his crew - also the protoss are a bit mind blowing, so it's difficult to figure out what's new at all (Raynor probably spent most of his time with them trying to figure out how to socialize properly).
