For those that didn't follow GSL Season 1 the prize pool for this tournament is approximately $170,000 USD, broken down below:

Structure:

The tournament kicks off on the 18th of October 2010, starting at a Ro64 from the offline preliminaries. Ro64 through to Ro8 are Bo3 sets while Ro4 are Bo5 sets and the finals will be a Bo7 series.

Day4 of the qualifiers and Garimto did not qualify T_T

Also, wc3 players seem to be doing miserable this time around. Moon and ReMinD have both been eliminated and both were expected to do quite well based on their WC3 performances.

At least HongUn and theWind have qualified. God, these brackets are stacked though...

Apparently Garimto made it to the final bracket but lost to HongUn for the RO64 spot.

Nice... I'm glad I purchased a season 2 ticket more and more each day. Can't wait for the 18th to come.

Season 2 brackets and schedule are up. Some good news for the western world, half of the games will be played at 1PM KST (which is equivalent to 9PM PST the previous day, so if on the schedule it says Oct 19th at 1PM KST, then the games will air Oct 18th at 9PM PST) so you dont always have to stay up until 3-6AM to start watching them live!

The first five matches were all epic. I'm a little concerned they overstacked that bracket with too many good players I wana see move on though, but will have to play each other next round, thus eliminating half of them. All favorites pulled through though.

Here they are:

반반치킨 = Fifty-Fifty Chicken
수호신 = Defence God, Patron Saint, or Household God
길자 = Path Guy (?)
아야 = Ouch
삐삐 = Pager (also used as a pet name)
비담 = Bidam (person in Korean history, was a character in a recent popular drama)

I was bored in class. :p

Anyone else watching these round of 64 games?? Absolutely amazing. There has actually been fast mothership and fast BC builds used in two games, plus other amazing strategies I've never seen in SC2 or SC1 history. I can't apologize enough for doubting Maul's belief that this $20 investment is incredibly worth it.

This game far succeeds SC1 multiplayer.

SC1 had about 9 professional builds each season, 1 for each race combination. With the introduction of new macro mechanics and several new units and abilities in SC2, there now has to be at least a 100 effective builds and strategies on the professional level. Almost every match in the GSL this season has been comepletely unique.

Plus, for those still complaining Terran is OP and Zerg is UP, start watching these games. So many zerg have already advanced to Round of 32. If anything, Toss seems to be struggling the most this season. I imagine the last patch has a lot to do with zerg winning more and toss losing more this season. Still, seems like a pretty damn well balanced game.

Not to mention, as many of you may not know, because of the recent patch changes (slower zealot build, supply before rax, reaper nerf), cheese strats are almost useless so all of the games are going into epic mid to late-game matches which is by far much more fun to watch then every one trying to finish the game in the first four minutes. Also, reapers are now being used as a one reaper scout and early harass so they're not even obsolete. Blizz is doing a great job of making every unit worthwhile and effective.

The Round of 64 began with 29 Terran, 20 Protoss, and 15 Zerg.
As of the start of the Round of 32, there are 13 Terran, 11 Protoss, and 8 Zerg remaining.

I believe the approximate math would say that a little less than half of the zerg and protoss players were eliminated, while more than half of the terran players were eliminated in Ro64.

That was some serious aggression. Didn't expect it to go that way. Could just have been first close spawns then a massive drop that caught FD by surprise. Interested to see whether FD could have held it off and perhaps maybe won if he scouted out what BoxeR was doing earlier.

Yeah, that Maka-esque rax not being scouted really screwed him over. Regardless, as Tasteless and Artosis mentioned, Fakeboxer (not trying to be offensive but just for clarity) cleary studied FD's strategies and knew exactly what to do and at what time.

I can't believe how good Idra looked though. I wouldn't be surprised if he makes to the semis or finals.

I'm curious how Idra or any remaining zerg will do against BoxeR's (Jr. :P) style he recently showed. Perfect spine timing maybe or perfect roach timing to counter it. And very spread out overlords.

But yeah, I'm interested to see how well FakeBoxer does against the remaining zerg too considering he was so dominating against FD.

Just saw Ro 32 and 16 of SlayersBoxer!!!! In Korean...

The commentary is so hilarious (though biased). In NaDa vs Aya, one of the commentators said "ENGINES SCREAMING!!!!" when NaDa's banshee did so much damage.

Later, during SlaBoxer vs CoreJJang, Boxer also started his cloaking banshee attack (toss had no observer) and Commentator: "EVERYBODY TOGETHER~~~ ENGINES SCREAMING!!!!!"

At Ro 16, SlaBoxer vs Loner, Boxer showed a highly impressive viking control: air mode to provide tanks sight of Loner's base and quickly lands down to counter Loner's reponse. Caster: "Up & Down, Up & Down~", Commentator "Wow! Nulddwigi (a traditional korean game of seesaw) Viking!"
Later... Commentator: "Here says Emperor of Korea to Emperor of China: THIS IS THE TRADITIONAL GAME OF KOREA!!!!!"

Loner really blew that match though. He could've done a lot of damage with his single helion push in both games if he took better care of it. But overall, his build was just inferior to Boxer's.

Crazy. Complete base trade. Felt like boxer was behind though a lot of time. Nada just kept having more and more and more stuff.

Second game

Wow. Thought the blue flame hellions would completely rape boxer. But boxer comes back. Kills Nada's thor rush while boxer's banshee just kills so many of Nada's SCVs.

Fourth game

WOW. Thought boxer was screwed with the ghosts sniping like crazy and nukes from Nada. Containing Boxer then sudden contain break from boxer and pushed right into Nada's base. Boxer contained Nada then just ran in and broke Nada.

Ok Lesh. Spoilers about how they won and roughly which games they won though.

Foxer vs KyrixZenith

Foxer won. The zerg player was KyrixZenith. The first and last games where Foxer won were amazing. The middle part was alright but lackluster compared to the first and last games. So stressful just watching Foxer micro his marines to avoid banelings. Kyrix got two wins off Foxer because Foxer was not able to stop banelings and lings from breaking his wall in. Foxer also managed a win besides the first and last game but I don't remember exactly how but it wasn't as amazing as the first and last game. Timing attack if i remember right.

First game was the most amazing. Foxer started with marines, siege tanks and medivacs. Then his tanks got killed so he just made more barracks and transitioned to marines and medivacs. Then mutalisks kill all his medivacs. Then he just goes all marines. Full ups. He even forgot to get combat shield upgrade. He just kept running in. Kept expecting just one bad baneling explosion to kill all of his marines and end the game but....it just never happened. Foxer just kept on pushing and won the first game.

For the life of me I can't remember the details of the last game. I know it was amazing.:P

For today's SlayersBoxer vs Nada

Boxer won. Nada won the first game with a base trade. Then Boxer won 3 games in a row against 3 different strategies from Nada as well as Nada's crazy macro skills. Boxer just kept getting the most out of each unit he had. Superb micro. Best example is in 2nd game they both banshee rushed. Nada got 1 kill. Boxer got around 10 including some marines.

Second game Boxer basically attacked Nada's natural from the back door shrubs on XelNaga and forced Nada to come back then Boxer's reinforcements hit Nada's army from behind.

Third game on Shakuras Boxer banshee rush and nada did blue flame hellion drop. Hellions killed tons of probes but Boxer took advantage of Nada's missile turret placement to kill every SCV he could reach and kept his banshee alive. Nada transitioned into a Thor rush with hellions. When the thors moved out Boxer just moved in his banshee and started killing SCVs and depots. When Nada arrived at Boxer's base marines and tanks waiting for him. Killed off Nada's army. At this time the banshee had tons of kills. Less than 10SCVs left mining.

Fourth game on Delta Quadrant Boxer did his early 2 marine 1 SCV rush. But he backed off cos he saw a tech lab on rax with 1 marine out. Expecting a reaper. But instead it was ghosts. Boxer did banshee rush and ghosts almost managed to kill it. Nada then pushed with marauders, marines and ghosts. Ghosts just sniped so many marines. Then Nada brought in tanks and vikings and had a contain on Boxer. Boxer slowly massed some tanks, rauders, marines and vikings. Nada nuked the ground between them twice to force Boxer back into his main but it didn't work. Then Boxer just ran in with unsieged tanks and stimmed marauders. Killed all Nada's tanks on the contain. Then boxer did his own contain. Massed up marauders again. Then unsiege and rush straight in. Killed everything.

The whole series it always felt like Boxer was behind and Nada was slowly moving in and pressuring and containing Boxer. The only exception was the Shakuras game when Nada did an all in Thor hellion rush that just didn't work out.

Lol that fake comic strip is hillarious. Foxer knows how to build some marines. Although, he said in an interview that he kind of did it arrogantly to prove that banelings were useless at high level play (my words of course but along those lines, although more of a playful arrogance, brash maybe?)

I'm glad Zenio lost to Nestea, there's now two teamless players in the final four. Plus, while I hardly like Idra, I didn't appreciate Zenio's arrogance after his win either (speaking of his stupid little korate chop). I'm actually looking forward to seeing Nestea play SlayerBoxer. He seems to have his build times down to a tee.

Damn.......totally different way that Foxer does TvT. No tanks at all.

Foxer won 4-1 over Hopetorture. Mass marines. Some marauders mixed in when Hopetorture had tanks. Later matches Foxer just went 1 rax, expo, mass rax. Fifth game foxer just suddenly did some teching. Got tanks and broke the back rocks on blistering. Hopetorture didn't give up but it just wasn't enough. Wasn't really even at all. Foxer just sort of ran over Hopetorture. Hopetorture kept using the same banshee build for every single game.

Yeah... if SlayersBoxer studies these matches and Foxer's style, he should see that if he scouts the typical marine build he should just pump reactor helions and maybe some marines to counter any potential banshees. Helions would destroy Foxer's build if he tries that all marine push. SlayersBoxer seems like the kind of innovative player that would say screw standard builds and try something like that. I think it would work really well. (Of course, it won't matter if NesTea wins, and he's been looking really solid this season)
