Expansion Units

Man, I think the overseer had an ability where it would create a cloud that blocked sight. I have strongly thought since, like, beta, that it should have been included in the game. It would be like dark swarm, but so much cooler!

I don't care if that ability ends up on a new unit or an old unit. That ability is, barring reavers and lurkers, the coolest thing to ever be taken out of SCII.

Personally, I think that the early tiers are already too crowded. Considering that Terran can get to T3 on one base, I wouldn't object if Toss and Terran were given a T4 in the expansion. Make the Mothership cost twice as much, and take forever to get out, and then make it as big and badass as the original gameplay trailer. Give Terran a second type of nuke, requiring a fusion core, that's as horrifying as Brood War's. Give Infestors a hive-tech upgrade that actually lets them infest buildings (infested bunker concept, anyone?). And then, finally, give zerg an awesome spore cloud spell that acts as a LoS blocker over a large area.

Frankly, Zerg do need an ability or unit to break the current M&M ball. You can't do anything against it, after you get crit mass the only way is to try to thin it down with fungals and drain medivac energy, then roll in with a ton of units. Banelings get targetted down and marines can spread out, zerglings don't last long enough against a large force of infantry, and the only options left are highly expensive brood lords or infestors.

Zerg could really use a Dark Swarm ability to allow them to push forward and break defenses.

I would argue that tanks and marines are stronger than MMM, since marauders don't do nearly as well vs. lings and banes. In either case, zerg simply can't take on a Terran in a straight fight, so they need to exploit the mobility of their mutalisks around the map to harass.

Personally, I think people need to get used to the idea of burrowing an infestor up to a marine ball, and saccing it to get off a fungal before coming in with banes. Fungal growth can deny all that stim micro and make easy pickings for banelings. Still, it's hard to break anything when so much damage is pouring out of their units.

Personally, I think a LoS blocking spell would help units get in range of siege tanks, without having to take the first few free shots tanks can get off. still, both BLs and ultras are great vs. tanks (though not so much vs. marines).

It's hard to think of something to add without overlapping with something. I almost want to give infestors a health boost to give them more time on the battlefield, but at the same time that's why they have burrow-move. Meh.

I would love to see a "chain lightning" style attack for Protoss. I know the Mutalisk's glaive worm is similar to a chain attack already but I still think it'de be cool.

I saw a Voidray attacking next to a Probe harvesting minerals and for a second it looked like the VR had a chain lightning attack. Now obviously a VR with that ability would be very OPd, lol, but it still gave me the idea.

Maybe a new upgraded attack for the Sentry? or an entirely new unit with such an attack?
Or maybe even a new spell for the High Templar, where it would drain it's entire mana pool to cast "psi-chain". Initial damage would be half that of the energy used (Ie: full 200 mana pool would do 100 damage initially) then would half damage every "skip". Max 3-4 times?
Might bring more Archon play into the game if HTs are constanly draining their mana pool :P.


P.S. on a un-related note. Who remembers that Surfing Protoss unit from way back in the day? God that unit sucked, lol.

Infestors in their current incarnation don't hold a candle to the support abilities the Defiler had. Defilers controlled area with Dark Swarm, and you only needed a handful to secure any given area, given that you had zerglings to sacrifice for more energy.

With Infestors, Fungal is only a temporary solution to the problem, one that risks sacrificing the unit for (to get into siege range) and is mostly used to drain down medivac energy. When it comes to micro vs macro, more often than not your infestors will run out of energy faster than a Terran can reinforce his troops lost to Fungal Growth.

Yes, ZvT can be rough. but dont expect anything akin to dark swarm to be implemented it would be far too dominant.

... HotS needs new cool stuff that also fits in, at least in terms of MP-content.

I still say making the scourge an evolution of the zergling, requiring the spire and baneling nest to build.

They definitely need new abilities for the infestor. It's an easy place to add stuff; neither IT now NP gets much use, so I think those could be easily replaced in favor of better upgrades. What? I don't know. Obviously dark swarm would be great, but I've also toyed with the idea of having infestors with both fungal growth and plague.

Personally, though, I think they just need to figure out a more exciting way to use the idea of infestation. After all, it's in the unit's name. I thought it was disappointing and a little unsatisfactory that they canceled the idea of infested protoss, but I guess that would count as a hybrid or something (at least, that was there excuse). Wouldn't it be great if Blizzard allowed us to live out our fantasies and fully infest a terran (or protoss) base? I've always wanted to be able to make infested tanks. Imagine - infesting a barracks gets you infested marines, an infested factory gives you tanks, infested vikings from infested starports, and infesting a CC would get you good old fashion blowy-uppy infested terrans. And infesting bunkers would get you that awesome concept from blizzcon.

i used to have this attitude, but im all changed. just because they "dont see much use" in what's supposed to be high end play, doesnt mean they dnt have potential. i know they do. (personalyl i kinda cant stop using em; its becoming a problem)

... it just takes some investment and dedication to suqeeze the extra out of em, that is IT and NP-use.

This game is so fast that at the tip-top level of play its very much about mechanics and execution; the big dogs like sticking to what they know as long as they are able to force it to work.

... i dont watch Idras stream, but i dare still say the games where he uses infestors are far in between; the recent epic game vs MVP being one of them; very late scarce use, strictly for fungals; using the other two abilities takes not only greater allocation of resources but somewhat actively looking for the situations where they are applicable.


looking at a zerg taht is maybe one or two tiers down from there, Destiny (still top masters NA) uses infestors rather alot, but its still considered off-beat play, even by him, to the point where he hasnt properly analysed and changed his behaviour to use the energy upgrade. (witch is an essential part of ensuring infestors have enough energy to not only cast those critical fungals but also hit a nice NP or a nice moment for IT support when its spotted)


TLDR: dont touch the infestors abilities. they have tremendous tactical potential.

I don't think it's fair to compare the Defiler and Infestor. The defiler is a tier 3 unit so of course it has better spells.

Reaver, Diamondback, Firebat.

Zerg

- Broodlord into Scurgelord and vice versa.
With a small resource cost for every switch-a-roo, I think it could work. Sure, they'd be a borderline unit, almost never used, but it'd be cool. ^^

- Channelable Dark Swarm for the Overseer.
Sounds simple enough. Dark Swarm makes a return, and the Overseer becomes more important.

- Tunneler, another mutation of the Zergling.
A bit slower, along with a weaker attack, but with slighty more HP and the ability to Burrow without research. They also share the Roach's movement-burrow research.

- Creep Glands (Upgrade)
Overlord can now spew creep while moving, leaving a trail of creep that dissolves faster than the normal creep. Requires Hive to research.


Terran

- Terran APC
Not the final name, ofcourse, but it would, technically be a large, mobile bunker. It would increase the damage of the units within. Lots of health-points, ofcourse, but slow as hell. They'd ride on the bottom of the Medivac, like Thors.

- Field-Ops
A mobile Terran specialist. An early caster, almost like the Sentry. They could deploy into a non-moving, but stealth-detecting pose, as well as have mines to place. Let's say... 2 for fifteen minerals.

- The Valkire
Basicly, the Brood War version with a few light tweaks to fit the anti-air that Vikings don't cover.

Portoss

- Mothership
The cloak field radius has been shrunk by roughly 10%, however, the Mothership would have a slightly increased health and shield pool. The mothership would also gain a new area-targeted ability called <Psi Supression Field>, that disallows any casters to cast within the area. Costs 100 energy.

....There was more, but these are the ones that I remember at the moment. I had them written down somewhere. If only I could find it...

That said, they aren't making a comeback in SC2. Probably ever.

Revers were great units. But somehow I doubt they'll re-introduce them to the game. And besides, technically we already have a reaver already!

I can't wait to see whatever they dream up for expansion units.

Oh, yeah, speaking of Reavers!

Protoss

- New Unit, no name for it yet.
As Reavers are no longer used in the front lines, they have be refurbished for new tools. The unit would technically look like a reaver with the giant worm-armor plates mostly removed, with a pylon-like contraption attached to where they were. A slow moving unit, it would provide an always-active powerfield, the size of wihc would be roughly the size of the Warp Prsim. Besides the power-filed, it would also give off an aura that increased unit shield regeneration.

What do you think?

Zerg needs an ultimate, that was my first post idea on this forum, i will like to see the leviathan from the Questline with special habilities (the equal to the protoss mothership but in zerg)

Well, having an "Ultimate" unit souds like a pretty nifty idea, Blizzard couldn't really pull it off with even the protoss, so that might put them off any other unique mobs.

Another important thing to note is the fact that Zerg aren't the "ultimate" type of race. They're more about "We are the Swarm" and dime-a-dozen masses of icky creatures eating you whole... no? :)

they can mass , but in the early game it sucks (unless it's ZvZ), in the mid game is even worst, and in the late game is when zerg starts to shine a little bit.
