How Much Does Stetmann Know?
Okay, a very random thought just crossed my mind. So, here goes...
Throughout the WoL campaign, Stetmann, the Hyperion's resident scientist, was presented as your typical 'science guy' character; geeky, talkative, recklessly inquisitive and short on common sense/sense of priority. I mean, this is the guy who frequently bugs Raynor to go on random, dangerous field excursions in the midst of a battle, is growing a pet Zerg in a test tube even after it developed an eye (thereby potentially risking allowing the Swarm to spy on the Raiders' activities) and in all likelihood was responsible for disabling the Lab in the first place (before Hanson, he appears to be its sole user).
Now enter, the crystal Zeratul gave to Raynor. And what did Raynor do with it? He stored it in the Lab; where Stetmann spent hours on end, often without supervision or even human interaction. There's no doubt that he would have noticed the Protoss device; especially after Raynor started popping down every so often to stare into it.
Personally, I think there's little doubt that a guy like Stetmann would be unable to resist studying/experimenting with the crystal. And considering Raynor was able to activate it, I suspect Stetmann would have stumbled upon it as well. The only question is how far he went and if there was anything Raynor missed.
Anyone else care to speculate?

I think he was a fun character. A guy who doesnt really want to save the galaxy, but study it :).
And as far as the crystal is concerned, i dont think he realised how serious the approaching doom is. I think only Raynor and Tosh realised how important the message is, but they maybe dont understand it entirely.
Re: How Much Does Stetmann Know?
I find it hard to believe his character because he knows too much. A scientist isn't a jack of all trades profession, usually there is a certain field they specialize in. Stetmann is a master of all trades, able to break down both Protoss and Zerg technology just by studying 'samples'.
I would've preferred it if he was the Protoss tech specialist, and Hanson was kept on as the biologist.

Just remember, this is the universe where terraforming accidents blow up planets. I think it fits. :p

Did you even read his reports? The Protoss Crystal was only allowing him to study it but not letting him delve in too deeply. He even mentions all his findings were a sham. First he thought he was unlocking some Protoss secrets until he found out he was being played by the crystal all along. He was being trolled.

Do you realize that all the improvements of the console are made by this guy? That the Raven is his invention? That the guy in the bay invented Thors based on the Odin?
Seriously, it just doesn't makes enough sense to care about what does Raynor do with the chrystal Zeratul gave him. Anyways, it's only like a psi-VCR.
Re: How Much Does Stetmann Know?
Yeah, according to Wings of Liberty, Raynor's Raiders invented practically every Terran unit in multiplayer.

... Or he could be using his research to emulate existing technologies and vehicles.
