Only, you get bored faster since achievements tend to make it more difficult for the player to discover stuff to do on their own after most achievements are done.

...?
What?
So, discover beating a map in 20 minutes on hard.. on my own? Whoopity fricken do. I think that reasoning is ridiculous. It gives you goals; it doesn't do it for you. You still have to work to get it. Discovering destroying 50 toss buildings on hard isnt exactly something you'd work for if it wasnt for the achievement.

No, but some people would do it regardless of them knowing there was an achievement for it or not. (Like the two Feats of Strength. I didn't know them, I just like clearing a map fully.)
My point is once you've done achievements like that it's more difficult to figure out something of your own afterwards.
Achievements tend to prolong games on the shorter span of time, but in the long run many give up parts of the game where there are no achievements left.
They make it harder for players themselves to think of other things to do, other than the achievements.

So, what you are saying is the achievement wasnt really anything because you always do it. You didn't think to do it like it was something new, you did it by default and habit.
You make it sound like you did something amazing and found out it was an achievement. There are plenty of things you can think of doing that aren't achievements.. Like win by only making marines, or win by only making goliaths... There are still a lot of things you can think to do that blizzard hasnt included as an achievement. If you are unable to think of anything, that is your lack of imagination, not blizzards error in adding achievements.

My point is nobody (or only very few people) will do those kind of things you mention because there aren't any achievements for it. Whereas more people would invent stuff for themselves more often, had the achievements not been there. (This goes for all games in general that have achievement systems, not just SC2.)
I'm just saying people would be more inventive on their own if the achievements weren't there. I believe thinking of something yourself will end up satisfying you more, over a longer period of time, than doing achievements.
In many games these days people tend to NOT do stuff, UNLESS there's an achievement for it.
Don't get me wrong, I see how achievements can help the player think of something to do with a game, but in the end they'll narrow down the possible choices a given player would think of.
