I looked through the editor and decided to take a better picture of the Dark Voice. Certainly confirms it has possessed a Protoss.

Surely its a hybrid.
I doubt it as it is the creator of the hybrids...Maybe it IS a rogue Xel'Naga?
My bet is on xel naga, they made protoss as their image
I am just theorizing from observations tough, not facts
Wonder how duran will have relations with this character
I believe the Castanar base was one of Duran's hybrid facilities.
I go for Adun
I just have this weird feeling that it's him
hmm...it reminds me of tassadar...
i'd hate to see that kind of twist in the story...
I think it might be a rogue Xel'Naga left behind by the others. In fact, it reminds me a lot of the Ancients from the Stargate universe. At some point, it is mentioned, that the Xel'Naga have left this world and the wording is mildly suggestive of them ascending to another plane of existence. Additionally, the Dark Voice has been called The Fallen One, which does remind me of the Ori.
It could be, that the Fallen One tampered with the Zerg after their original creation and might have even been responsible for the Overmind's revolt against the Xel'Naga. The Dark Voice's claim, that it was he/she/it that originally created the Zerg and the Protoss, need not be strictly true.
Of course, I'm only speculating here.
It's Fenix!
I have a theory that the Dark Voice is actually the Voice in the Darkness from one of the comics. Seems unlikely though.
what confuses me is the apparent mandibles he has on the side of his lower face. also, his lower face looks a little skinnier than a protoss'.
btw how did u get into possession of the pic again? i dont understand.
um yeah it's probably that. considering that thing has a personal vendetta against the xel'naga since they beat him and locked him away.
Dark Voice and Voice in the Darkness are one in the same, he's probably controlling a toss or something. However...he could in reality BE an evil xel'naga as well.
I'm not sure if the prophecy is legitimate anymore, it seems as though that prophecy was a warning of what to avoid happening. If the Xel'Naga do transcend the Cycle there is no real defense against this monster considering the entire species was the anti-darkness
When playing, I was certain there were mechanicle parts. It doesnt look quite protoss, but zerg characteristics are minimal, though present.
I wonder... a dark reflection of a unity between Tassadar and the Overmind?
I used the previewer in the editor and zoomed out on the Dark Voice portrait.
Better one:

i think it's a posessed Xel'Naga now.
Unless the Voice is an evil Xel'Naga, which wouldn't make sense since it's said the Xel'naga found it/him while journeying the universe.
OR...it could be a true protoss/zerg hybrid
I feel it may have been an early attempt by the Xel'Naga at splicing together the protoss and zerg. It went mad with its own power and messed with the Overmind, warping its mind and allowing it to consume the rest of the Xel'Naga. Maddened by lord knows what, it's been directing the Overmind from afar.
A less likely theory is that perhaps the collective Xel'Naga consciousness was released with the Overmind's death, warped by their "captivity" and seeking a distortion of their original goals.
He definantly looks protoss now. He has horns on his face which mmakes it seem like a dark templar however he is wearing high templar regalia which makes it even more confusing. also he clearly has mandibles on his lower face which is not seen in any other protoss. Just as a quick question tho, how can we be sure this is truly what he looks like and not just blizzard being lazy and adding a few stuff to a ht portrait and darkening it to make it look the dark voice?
Well, the original portrait in-game was distorted by smoke and shadow. It may be we're not supposed to know what it looks like quite yet.
I'm thinking he (the prophecy refers to Glowing Eyes as a he) may be a relic fro a past Cycle. Maybe this isn't the first time creatures like the hybrids, that is, abominations of the Xel'naga existed. He may just be an ancient hybrid of sorts, which would fit in with being a "Fallen One" in a sense that his whole kind is fallen from the glory of the perfect Xel'naga. He could have followed the Xel'naga with some kind of evil twin complex, tweaking all their works, maybe driving the Protoss into the Aeon of Strife, and getting the Overmind to attack the Xel'naga. Those are the two most defining events of Protoss and Zerg history, so if he caused them, he did create the species as they are today in a way.
If horns is somewhat like facial hair in humans and must be trimmed to be kept from growing out, it MAY be a posessed high templar. But hes def wearing high temp clothing
What if the hybrids are Xel'Naga?
He looks almost a identical to Xytal.

Basically the same, but with more detail on the head ornamentation.
Actually those horns under his cheeks would move about like crabs feet.
I don't think it looks like Xytal at all. That doesn't mean it can't be him/his effigy, but there's really no similarity.
Well the "mandibles" can be from the zer'atai helmet, and the shoulder plates looks similar.
As does the simple head-dress.
It moves actually, these mandibles. It's part of his face.
The voice in the Darkness introduces it as a naturally born creature, rather than one like the Xel'naga which are "artificially" created, in the way that the older generation of the Xel'naga guide 2 races with the purities to merge.
Perhaps the Voice could be the first and true natural merging of the Purities? I doubt it but just throwing it out there. It hatred for the Xel'naga could be because it sees them as abominations as they meddle in the natural cause of evolution. This makes me wonder thought why it wanted to create the Hybrids, unless it sees this as the only way to stop the Xel'naga cycle.
I'm guessing it's as follows;
The Xel'Naga would not help him, but the Hybrids would, and only Hybrids are capable of things the Xel'Naga can do. Creating a perfect mix of Protoss and Zerg would result in Xel'Naga, but the Hybrids have 1 feature which is more visible than the other. (Zerg Hybrid on Castanar and Protoss Hybrid on Zhakul)
Call me a racist, but all Protoss look the same to me.
The Dark Voice is also called the "Fallen One". Could he be the Xel'Naga's Satan / fallen angel?
I am speculating that after the Xel'Naga were attacked by the Protoss, the Dark Voice was consummed by revenge and sought to use the Zerg to kill the Protoss, while continuing his species' work in creating new Xel'Naga.
