That's your interpretation of it. Some, probably a good chunk of it, make really bad demands/suggestions that Blizzard intelligently ignores. There is a reason why Blizzard has a whole subsection at TvTrope's Unpleasable Fanbase page.

SC2 is somewhat a victim of it's own fame. It's only normal people would have high expectations.
There may be some issues to be corrected, opinions vary greatly though and even the unhappy people are generally pissed off about different things.
I suppose things will change with patches, Blizzard isn't known for abandoning games after the release. I'll not be surprised if they release patches twice a week.
I wish there were more singleplayer missions. I realize that 29 is a lot for some people, but don't forget that 4 of them are protoss missions. I hope blizzard plans to balance this out and have a mini terran campaign in HotS or LotV.
I thought the singleplayer was incredibly weak. I was not impressed in anyway.
MP is still good......still less features than bnet 1.0 probably.
I disliked the chunky character models.
Still, good god do I know anyone here who actually put much thought over a big span of time, testing and replaying it to be 100% sure about their point.
I too make hastily remarks, I only played the campaign once
I really agree with tvtropes on this one
''Terran bio ball op, nerf nerf!''
Time goes...
''Terran mech op, nerf nerf!''
You can't really base anything from anyone here, you can only observe it and see if it gives you an idea, but you can never go on it.
Also usually it goes like people choosing a side and then stick to it, always pointing out the faults, or always pointing out the good parts.
While a few good people will disagree and agree and will actually see all the sides of the coin.
I hate that i can't buy all upgrades for units in the hyperion......
Thanks for for backing up my point, although I'm sure you didn't intend to.Quote:

The game is just a spam fest.
I haven't played a single game where players don't sit in their base, mass, and tech. There is no early game micro. Maybe somebody will send a probe into the enemy's base, but that's it. It's pathetic really.
Maybe I'm just playing the wrong matchups. I know I've seen some interesting 1v1 games, but 1v1 isn't my thing.
Quote:
This is a joke. Why are you complaining that 3v3 and 4v4 is a spamfest? Try playing some actual competitive games if you want more intense micro. Like Gifted told me, "3v3? I've seen more strategy in pokemon".
You probably missed it, but my point was that the 3v3 and 4v4 gameplay sucks.
I shouldn't have to list other RTS games that have good 3v3/4v4 gameplay for somebody who has as many posts as you Gradius.
This is a flaw in the game, and it's not a joke, TYVM.
I spent credits and upgraded all infantry for the achievement.
I might play again from a very early save and just save money from 4-5 missions, then blow it all to get ship and vehicle achievements too.
O, Rly?I think it is a fundamental misunderstanding to think that the folks in this thread are bashing SC2. Overall, I'd say most people have had a net positive experience with WoL... however, this thread is not about your overall experience, it's about the few instances where things could have been better. No need to lose faith in us just yet, IMO
I personally am loving the single player so far. I haven't had the chance to play the multiplayer due to having a terrible internet, but somehow I doubt it got worse from beta. The lobby/channels thing is gonna get implemented, so no complaints there.
Really, the only complaint I have is a personal one. They didn't include all the SC1 units like they said. I assume they'll be adding the originals for the Zerg and Protoss in the expansions, but that means I'm going to have to wait 2-4 years just to put a bloody Reaver in my map and have it able to be released.
What do you mean optimally? I'm not even really sure what you're asking.Quote:
Ok, but how do you know it's a flaw in the game? Are you playing 3v3 or 4v4 optimally? Is every single game obligated to be an intense micro experience in the early game regardless of what game mode you choose?
The game that I come from emphasizes constant harassment, in any matchup whether it be 1v1 or 4v4. Each moment is precious, and needs to be used attacking/defending the oppents army or resources in order to win.
I believe that the fun of RTS comes mostly from micro. Sure, base management can add to this, but the emphasis should always be on micro. But I see minimal micro in SC2. It's redundant spam. Why do I need 4x rax to serve one function, that is unit production? Having to keep up with this macro clutter reduces the time I can spend on micro, which IMO makes for a lame RTS.
So let me leave a question for you now Gradius. If you agree that 3v3 and 4v4 is a joke, and that it's also dysfunctional, do you really think that it's not a flaw in the game that these matchups are so lame? Or are you content with crap features?
I, for one, am not.
Overall the game was good, however, some things that did bug me ...
Stupid, overly 'epic' music in fmv's. This sort of thing only works sparingly and only when it's done well, such as the opening to Broodwar.
Not enough depth to most characters on the Hyperion. I do remember Blizzard saying we're be able to interact with people, learn more about lore, etc. There was hardly anything on Swan, Tychus etc, also very little lore on the larger world, no comprehensive history available to read as an optional extra, it felt really stripped down in many respects.
Certain aspects of Protoss design and execution. Unit portraits were great, voices, scripting and many units were not, they've become parodies of themselves instead of an interesting take on the elder psychic warrior aliens archetype.
Valerian's shoulder pads.
Possibly the foremost: the game was not dark enough. SC1 was a dark, violent, political sci fi with cyberpunk, gothic high fantasy undertones, SC2 was lighter both in terms of characters, dialogue, art direction and overall tone. Really bad move on behalf of Blizzard. Not enough gravitus.
Characterizations. Mensk had so much weight in the original, so did the Protoss, Zeratul... not quite sure why I didn't feel it the same way in SC2, but the characters just seemed weaker and shallower than in SC1.
More later.
Even still, I give the single player 7.9/10.
This is coming from a long time SC fan who literally counted down the days to the release of the original, so I am comparing it to my impressions of the original, plus what I can reasonably expect from a game that's been in development for 5 years.
one question
Hidden Content:
Part of Sc2 I am thinking where is the Starcraft? Even the Protoss didn't seem like Protoss. Where were the Terrans of the original, the Zerg, the Protoss? It was the same universe but it wasn't..
My complaint: They tried way too hard to shove too many things into the game, without polishing any of their work.
Add to what Gradius said, they just throw crap in from the books but heed no attention to the lore. WTF is up with the Taldarim? They're fanatics stranded on Aiur according to the books but nope, in SC2 apparently they have multiple worlds under their belt as well as motherships and Xel Naga asteroids.
Yea.. I've only played the "7 hrs pass" and there was heaps of shit that just looks so amateur/unpolished - cutscenes, animation, scipted in-game scenes.
Also, the story, units, graphics etc are a massive letdown. I've been following the beta, the development, etc and theres nothing really new in this game from SC1. Sure there's a few new mechanics and queueing options but so what! Heck, even some of the tech ideas in the SP are better than the shit Terran got in MP.
This game is the SC1.5 we should have got 3 yrs after SC1 came out.
So glad I didnt' go buy this game. And I never will.
ps. I kinda like the Terran music, so I'll be going to youtube to satisfy that urge. :)
My only complaints focus on battle.net. The game is great in almost every way. My problems with battle.net are:
Region locking, although they are working to let SEA players play on NA within the next 2 months, and other regions after
SEA - Good idea but they should of investigated how our major ISPs ping first
Publishing - 20mb total space and 10mb per map is good for some maps, but really holds heaps of projects back.
Popularity - Terrible system that ensures only the first two pages get played and lots of great maps get left behind. Going back to the create a lobby system with all maps saved on battle.net would be great, and if a dota domination system emerges then come up with a new solution
Lack of chat - I didn't think this would bother me but with only 2 other RL friends playing SC and a handful of SEA friends on SCLegacy it does feel very lonely
Also props to the facebook integration, made adding friends a breeze. And to all the bashers, it would of taken less than a few hours to implement. Great feature I didn't think I'd use
I`m really sorry to say thins, but I`m a little dissapointed from the campaign. The missions were very well designed and divers, but the 'new ground braking" between-missions-experience is not what I`ve expected. The voice acting isn`t that great all the heroes sound very casual - like they are chit-chatting on an afternoon walk(not always - but a lot of the time). You are starting a revolution for Tassadar`s sake  ! Where is the star-map ?! And the story is pretty gay :( - reminds me of WC3 - every body bonds together against the mighty archimond (in this case archimond being a sexy ex girlfriend of Jim`s ; or maybe archimond is the dark voice and the new kerrigan will be good but still have control over the zerg, whatever) Raynor teaming up with dominion forces ? Sure he`s a nice fella, but the human mind doesn`t work that way- WE ARE stupid, bent on killing are enemies nomather what.
Overall the game feels nice in terms of gameplay, but the way the story is presented (voice acting drops overall rating buy 2-3 stars :P) just ruins the game for people, who have played star craft 1 -> if you are new to the SC universe the game will be awesome.
Just don't use this as general statement... I went through starcraft 1 campaign 3 times... yes..I am not super mega fan of SC who played SC like 3 times every year but still.. I love starcraft and story.. and in my opinion, Starcraft 2 is great successor of original Starcraft. Raynor has really great voice acting.. much better compared to Starcraft (IMO of course), Kerrigan was decent and other characters were from decent to great too... only real let down in voice acting was Tassadar. So important character of SC history has like 30 seconds in the new game after 12 years of waiting and his voice acting seems to be rushed for some reason.
I don't like the fact that I haven't enough time to play it.
Other than that, B.NET is lacking in many regards. Voice chat is bugged. Lack of chat channels sucks. Adding/finding friends is obnoxious.
What I hate is the ultra polarization of the community. If you like the game you're a fan boy shill. If you have complaints you're unreasonable. I'm looking forward to the eventual acceptance of what the game is. Either you'll keep playing it or you won't. I definitely don't want discourse to stop, I just wish people would realize we're all playing for the same team here.
My biggest complaint is the total lock out of all features offline save for campaign. The loss of LAN, achievements playing against the computer are asinine. I'm si k and tired of being punished for what criminals do.
The colossi were set to activate only after the fall of Auir. It's written in the templar archives manual.
Again regarding stuff from the books, what makes you think those aren't ideas cooked up by Blizzard's lore team for StarCraft 2 that they just told Golden to use on their books?
The sounds are horrendous. Really poorly put together imo. The protoss are both hard to understand and very similar to each other so that i can barely tell who is talking. Not distinctive at all.
Tychus and matt were the exceptions for me (and possibly jim). Kerrigan was awful. Zeratul was meh. Personally ill overlook it, but the old actor was superior imo and this isnt just nostalgia.
The campaign had some interesting concepts (like the stuff with the overmind) but ultimately as someone pointed out earlier, it felt like you were invincible and omnipresent. I felt like i had unlimited time to go here or there and ppl would wait for me to arrive (oh no, X needs to be rescued now, but will wait patiently until i complete 3 other missions).
I never felt like a criminal (even the propaganda was often on my side) who was being hunted. The fact that i had access to whatever the heck i wanted was kinda lame (oh ill just make a better Odin, no problem)
Multiplayer has a lot of neat features (forcefield, warp in are my favorites) but there is also a lot of stupid and boring features (50/50 upgrades, marauders being so strong, roach/hydra being strong, but boring, silly things like infested terran and 250mm cannons, storm being weak and small, lame upgrades (ex: for carrier), mothershit)
I just get the feeling that they didnt do as good a job as they could have. I would be (have been) a lot more patient if id been given the impression during beta that they had it covered, but i didnt really feel that way. They constantly were bumbling around making weird decisions.
Now i personally had a good experience with SP, but it didnt feel as good as it could have. It sure was beautiful though. 10/10 for graphics and general look (few exceptions), but about 6-7/10 for the game overall.
Tassadar's voice. That's it. Everything else is fantastic.
I don't like the lack of terrain denial like spider mines and lurkers. I don't like the lack of options for Zerg. I don't like that you can't destroy force fields except with high tier units. I don't like the cliche story which seems like more targeting teenagers than adults. I don't like the lack of chat rooms, region lock and no LAN.
Still one of the best games of all time.
I'd have to strongly disagree!
SC1 a resounding yes!
SC1.5 a resounding FAIL! This game was weak. There were minor and infrequent flashes of creativity and brilliance - times I remember were like playing SC1 the first time - but the game as a whole was a bitter disappointment. I give it ~75% (not that I'm a reviewer of any standing).
As I said in my previous post, this game (as we currently have it) would have been acceptable had it arrived 9 years ago. I am reminded of Duke Nukem Forever, where you wait for something that never really comes. It seems the wait was inversly proportional to the quality and satsifaction I got from playing it. Further, no, I'm not talking about hype, this was simply a disappointing, 'run of the mill' RTS at the end of the day.
Okay, what I don't like with WoL right? I'm sorry guys, but I have to say this:
offline mode doesn't work.
Now I can't edit while my kids are busy in the class rooms. What should I do then, hit on some moms there?
Blizzard isn't saying a thing regarding this issue, and keeps pushing complaints from tech to bug to somewhere else. If you can, please help voice out this problem, or wait till Bnet goes down for maintenance or whatever.
Apparently this is not noticed by most players, but only by select individuals who do get into no-internet areas but have time to play/use sc2 stuff.
I never would have thought something like this would happen.
Try this out:
1. Play as usual, or at least 30 seconds with an internet connection.
2. Exit sc2
3. detach internet
4. shut down pc
5. reboot
6. without connection, play sc2.
7. no profit
I think that the moments that should had been epic where managed in an anti-climatic way. For example (spoilers):
Hidden Content:
I did like very much the pre-rendered cinematics. The animation team is really good. Very good job at that.
Also, the way one can play MP with people with roughly the same skill is perfect. Just press a button and you're playing. That's excellent. The MP aspect excels.
It's not that the game is bad, but i expected more about storytelling after all this time. I don't even know what would happened without the extra time they got when the game got delayed after the BN2 team fuck'd-up.
Still, i didn't finished SP yet. Didn't have that much time to play.
What templar archives manual?
I could barely hear Tassadar's voice under all the filters. And Kerrigan sounded like she talked under her breath the whole time. As Sarah I though she was pretty good.
I'll leave my voice criticisms for another thread, but let me say for the record that why didn't they use Kadass as the default High Templar?
That doesn't make any sense. Aiur is like Jesus to the Protoss. They put aside their differences with respect to the dark templar and the khalai to fight for Aiur. They would not have let colossi sit underwater. Also, the lore states that the colossi were sealed away in remote asteroids because of their destructive power, not underneath Aiur's oceans.
