Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
I just lost my internet connection for two straight hours. I tried to use the editor, can't. Tried to play offline, it says, I need to authenticate my copy.
What in the world does that mean? And how do I do that, so that, whenever I need to spend a day or two away and without internet connection, I can still do some work with the editor?
Edit:
Oh, and thanks to Endserenading for the guest pass that saved me before my SEA copy got pushed into the shelves.
And one more thing, I had a better experience playing in the NA server than in SEA. This server has some lag built into it maybe.
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
I think you can play offline as long as you log-in first. If you then lose the connection, it will still work (without archivements, i think). A 56k modem could probe useful here.
It's sad, but no internet = no game, at least if you're a legitimate user :(
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
Oh, man. I hope they make a fix for this.
I swear, they said sometime ago that we can carry our SC and play offline without an internet connection.
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
Yes, now that you mentioned it, i think you're right. They said that you only need to authenticate once, then could play SP offline. Did you authenticated the game at least once before the internet went down (even if you closed and opened the game after that)?
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
That's the thing. I can play alright when I got connection, but if I disable or unplug the DSL, it says, you need to authenticate. The editor wont run and say I need to login.
So, I thought there was some module that automatically gets downloaded or something which makes our copy an "authenticated" one -- which, from what they said before, should be playable offline.
I mean, how do we do that? Authenticate, that is.
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
That should be automatic when you log-in the first time, then your game is authenticated, and you should be able to play SP offline. They said it a looong time ago, however, and i didn't checked if it was really implemented.
You should post a thread in the Blizzard SC2 support forums about this. They said it was going to work. Either you have a problem with your installation, or they never implemented what they said.
I will check what happends if i "cut the wire" when i get home.
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
Yeah you should contact blizzard directly. Make a thread in the support forum, and maybe in the general forums so it makes some noise if blizzard was just trying to be sneaky with this... (which would be quite pathetic, I hope it's just a bug).
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
I've read some guys in the forums having the same problems. Blizzard responds with a sorry, you can't play without internet.
I raged.
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
Are you serious? You have to have the internet to play at all?
Re: Authenticating Starcraft 2: WoL
That's what it said in the forums.
There's something really wrong with all this. I am utterly, and I say again, utterly dismayed.
I mean, sure, there might only be a couple there who would need to use the editor or test stuff without having a constant connection, but for crying out loud, it didn't stop people from doing what this is supposed to stop.
This is evil incarnate.
