Whats with the hate on the rednecks? It's always been that Terran flare. I mean come on the Confederacy. The ships which Earth punted into deep space were not filled with the cream of the crop, turns out Blizz thinks that means rednecks but ohwell!
I could live with redneck references - it's the campy dialogue that has me bugged out :/ A certain amount is expected "It's time to kick this revolution into overdrive" - is fine lol. It's just the other 25 phrases that made me cringe.
But Mengsk's voice is sexxy.

You kidding? Horner's got the only VA that can act, something the rest of them seem to have lost the ability to do so or just lack it.
I agree though, Raynor does sound very cheesy =P And Valerian is nothing like the character I expected him to be, reminds me too much of a stuck up Simba kid. But Tychus' and Mengsk's voice acting aren't too noticeable, I preferred Mengsk's voice acting in the original, despite the identical VA.
Horner's voice acting + character have bought me. He is now my favourite Terran =P
I rewatched it and I agree - Horner is good but I still love Mengsk for some reason lol.
Tosh isn't bad either but pretty short.

Any one suspect that Kerrigan's regenerative abilities will be a Chekov's gun of sorts? In the scene she fights Zeratul, her wing is completely severed, but grows back within a minute.
Perhaps whatever 'uninfests' her or whatever the case is was temporary, and she ends up slowly regenerating back to her old self.
I think Xel'Naga technology would disable any zerg-related regeneration, but I'm sure Blizz's got something under their sleeves. I reckon in the cinematic they should've shown more infestation visible on Kerrigan, instead of just her hair/tendrils. May possibly be explained in-game.
Personally I would've preferred that she became de-infested at the end of HotS, but who knows, it may all make sense after playing the game. Just 2/3 more days guys!
Kicking myself in the pants for watching all of those, but really loved the humor happening around Toshs' death, such as Tychus being voodoo'd and Matt's face.
Well, parts of Kerrigan's arm also have zerg scales on them. And it looks like Raynor and the crew no only wipped out Kerrigan's zerg DNA, but every zerg in char. Unless they are all underground killing each other or themselves.
Now to voiceacting this is my list from best to worst (this is just related to the cinematics):
Mengsk
Horner
Ariel
Zeratul
Tychus
Tosh
Nova
Raynor
Horace
Swann
Valerian
Queen of Blades
Sarah Kerrigan
Actually, if you look closely, you'll see that when Raynor leaves with Sarah in arms on the sky there are explosions on the battlecruisers fleet. So the zerg further away from the artifact are just fine.
Here's mine =D:
Horner (I personally find he's the only actor that's shown good acting. he's also got a pretty good character)
Tychus (His voice is like honey, hardened, then grated.)
Mengsk (Not as good as in the first game (loved the News Flash bit), but he still has that powerful, awesome voice.)
Swann (When I heard his voice in 07, I was going to really like him, then I was disappointed when they changed it to Fred's cartoony take in 09. Now he ain't so bad, must've realised how cheesy it was.)
Horace (I think it's actually his character's facial expression that has pulled this guy down)
Ariel (Not much on her side, but she did prove to be better than many others)
Zeratul (Jack Ritschel, may he rest in peace.)
Nova (didn't hear much of her so we can't really judge)
Kachinsky (I liked his VA in the BlizzCon 07 vid where they introduced the story mode space, I can tell there's a difference, but he's still better than the below)
Sarah Kerrigan (would've preferred Talken, but Helfer pulled it off well enough, I'm more concerned for the way she actually looks aesthetically)
Raynor (*sigh*, Clotworthy's really lost it. I wouldn't blame the dialogue.)
Queen of Blades (not a prejudice against the VA, she really doesn't sound great, 'cept for the part after she regrows her blades)
Valerian (I was hoping to like this character.. oh well)
Tosh (I dunno, when I first heard him at BlizzCon 09, the film clip that was shown had a lot more gravity to it. Now hearing more of Tosh, his VA sounds like he's trying a bit too hard.)
I am bit dissapointed with the plot, we all predicted de-infestation of Kerrigan and at this point I can assume that BLizzard's games are cliche and much repetitive
we didn't see how it come to that
The point is that people are jumping to conclusions from bits and pieces. And I liked Valerian's voice. Also the bulk of th dialouge is probably in game. You can get the general idea of the plot from the cinematic, but not the details...
There are a few things I feel a bit confused after watching all the cinematics... No biggie but I am just curious...
Q1. As we know, the Protoss successfully de-infested and cured Stukov with their serum in SC1, so why Kerrigan can't be de-infested in this way too but done by Xel'Naga Artefacts instead?
Q2. Char is a volcanic planet with very high temperature but why is there still rain on this planet?
My theory. Actual reason: Collecting artifacts gives the player more missions to do things instead of just having Raynor up and grab a serum from the Protoss.Quote:
Q1. As we know, the Protoss successfully de-infested and cured Stukov with their serum in SC1, so why Kerrigan can't be de-infested in this way too but done by Xel'Naga Artefacts instead?
My lore reason: Some of the Protoss may be chummy and friendly with Raynor but I highly doubt that they'd up and help him grab Kerrigan to inject her with a serum. Most Protoss would want to kill her. Even Zeratul wants to kill her. Secondly, is the difficulty of getting to her. I highly doubt it's a trivial matter trying to inject Kerrigan with a nanite serum, considering she's surrounded by billions of Zerg.
Lastly, the artifact probably provides an easier alternative TO the aforementioned problem. Not only that, it's possible for Blizzard just to throw out some made up Lore that Stukov was in the early stages of infestation (his reason for his weak broods) and thus the serum worked on him.
Kerrigan was a perfection by the Overmind. Possible the serum would not work on her, and when there's doubts like these, no one is going to go on an invasion attack to catch her just to have the serum not work. It'll be costly for sure. Valerian is also offering his fleet, something the Protoss would not do for Raynor.
No clue, I asked the same question earlier.Quote:
Q2. Char is a volcanic planet with very high temperature but why is there still rain on this planet?
Wasn't it established in Queen of Blades that there was small pools of water scattered across the surface of Char, or am I misremembering the novel?
It's not like hydrogen and oxygen are that uncommon any way. Water molecules seem bound to form in small amounts everywhere.
I think this is a shining example of an unpleasable fanbase. Remember how Blizzard at first didn't want Clotworthy for Raynor? But the fans did so Blizzard gave in. Now that the fans got what they wanted, what do they do? Complain about it. I reckon, had Talken been given the Kerrigan role, people would also be complaining about her performance.
And in general, people are being overly critical about the voice acting. It's perfectly serviceable! You can understand what they're saying even despite their thick accents. Granted, it's not exactly award-worthy but then again, Blizzard voicework never was. The lines are campy and OTT because that's simply Blizzard's writing style.
That's just silly. People only made the prediction after seeing spoiler information; specifically concept art and leaked screenshots. Hence, all this means is that it seems Blizzard is playing its story straight rather than throwing in a twist at the end. Why is that such a bad thing? Seriously, complaining that Kerrigan is de-infested after seeing concept art for it is like complaining that Valerian Mengsk is actually Arcturus Mengsk's son and not a clone/adopted/a hallucination after it was announced at Blizzcon that Valerian Mengsk was his son.
When Zeratul seeks Raynor out, he says that Kerrigan deserves to die but she needs to be kept alive; meaning, that he wants her dead but needs her alive.
Oh, very well explained... Also I am just guess one of the other possible reasons of using Xel'Naga Artifacts to de-infest Kerrigan might actually have something to do with the return of Xel'Naga as well? I don't know if Xel'Naga would be interested in possessing Kerrigan's body? It sounds crazy, but considering she's such a perfect example of the Hybrid, it might attract their attention. So who knows what else would happen to Kerrigan again in the future??
1. Haha, I wasn't saying that we should get rid of him, nor was I complaining, I was simply stating that the voice work in SC2 isn't as up to par as it was in the first. Voice acting was one of the key things that made the first game so great. This was simply a list of preference of who had the best voice acting, for example, a top ten list is just rating from best to worst out of those ten, not necessarily the best and terrible. (that didn't sound right.. but oh well)
Personally I find it funny how it turned out that Clotworthy was brought back and Talken taken away.. I actually was fine when it was Talken + the other actor, he actually DID sound like Clotworthy, just with the stronger accent. And my complaint about dialogue wasn't because of the campy/redneck speech, it was simply a complaint about the dialogue -- not the phrases. I don't know, maybe I'm just used to the great work that was SC1. And don't get me wrong, I still reckon SC2's a great game, it just doesn't have that perfection the first game did (except for the bits of scattered lore, something that may repeat itself because of the less linear story arc in SC2).
2. Well, yeah that's what I said. I didn't say he WANTED her alive, simply that he believed she was crucial to the universe's survival.
Does Valerian know of the Prophecy?
Interesting question.
EDIT: Actually, from memory, in the Dark Templar Trilogy, it ends with Jake Ramsey just about to tell Valerian 'everything' about his experience. Which was odd, seeming as Jake would have had more respect for the Protoss, and not revealing everything he'd learnt. It is possible Jake related the Xel'Naga cycle -- which Duran decided to mess with.
Nice. I wonder if Valerian's character has been established as a potential worse than mengks one. It would be redundant, but will enable the terrans to retain their identity after the trilogy if someone would take a much open-minded but vicious seat on the throne.
Seeing as how manipulative Valerian can be, it would be interesting if Valerian had some grand scheme planned out to exploit the coming chaos to his advantage and the Terrans in general.
From the SC2 site Valarian bio, bottom paragraph:
"Although Valerian shares his father’s ruthlessness and unwavering desire to succeed, he also embodies the goodness and compassion of his late mother. Only time will tell if he will retain his individuality and distinct set of values or become trapped in the long shadow of his father."
Quite consistent with the I, Mengsk novel and one of the reasons I find him to be a great character.
Yes, I really did like his character in the novels, but something about him in the cutscenes has made me dislike him a little. I doubt Blizzard would make Valerian become his father, which has lead me to wonder, what has Metzen got planned for him? And on that matter, despite Jim being Metzen's beloved creation.. is he really going to be the man he is in future titles? (as in, post SC2)
Also.. in the showdown cinematic.. anyone think Raynor looks like he could be Kerrigan's dad? :P I know he's meant to look older, due to the alcohol and tobacco abuse.. and he does look fine in-game, but the pre-rendered cinematic makes him look.. repulsive. hehe
Do you think his attachment to his mother is solid or a bit fragile? A lot of reveals and false info can twist this guy's concept of goodness and compassion, in a way that his idea of having the one parent that's been there for him dies of a cancer, might make him so human-only and thereby cause a lot of tension.
His offer of rescue to Kerrigan was kind of a projection of his desire to save his mother, and who knows what that would cause if Kerrigan did not show favor towards him.
This guy seems to have no family, a person isolated to only a few if not one close tie. To be honest, he seems to be a bomb waiting to explode. Jealousy can rapture this guys world into oblivion, if I were to say so from limited knowledge.
Do you think this view can be supported by the book(s)?
It's the Blizzard formula, of course he's going to turn evil.
At least they are creating an Arthas 2.0 with Valerian being more shadowy and mysterious.
Until we found out what the prophecy is, we can't be sure.
In the novel Zamara only tells Jake of the process the Xel'Naga are required to take, not whether Kerrigan is involved. But is it of both Zeratul's and Valerian's intentions or even Kerrigan's that she need be de-infested? It was the zerg themselves who destroyed the Xel'Naga, but now that they have no control over the zerg (an assumption) how will it work out?
Just fun speculation for now, we'll be sure to find out after WoL.
I was actually wondering if the Overmind was back. We know of the potrait which could be from a flashback.
But in the patch 16 files an overmind tendril was found.
http://sclegacy.com/images/uploaded/...indtendril.png
Perhaps in HotS a new overmind is somehow...Created, and Kerrigan has to battle it for power?
Is the overmind like a zerg strain, and that it naturally would grow overtime?
I always thought it was Cerebrates Combined makes an Overmind.
If that was the case, Tassadar's act would mean very little.
It would not pop out of nowhere. But something may happen.
The original Overmind was a Xel'Naga product made from the original Zerg, which were Larvas without their ability to mutate.
If made once, it can be made again by someone. Such as Duran or the Voice.
Therein lies the problem with your complaint. It's serviceable, not awesome, not amazing, but adequate after 12+ years adequate isn't what was expected.
Our complaint with the writing style is that while SC and BW were a bit over the top and campy it made sense - there was sophistication and purpose and while I agree that it is too early to really form a totally informed opinion, what've we've seen of the dialogue is far too over the top. It suffers from "epic syndrome" and while you can argue that that is blizz's style in BW and SC you had the direct nature of the Zerg dialogue and the sophistication of the Protoss to balance it out - now we have an entire campaign filled with Lester-esque Terran's. Even Nova sounds like a red-neck (*hangs head in hands*) and while a lot of my aversion to the dialect might come from my personal opinion overall the acting makes the story seem both vapid and overly epic (read: try too hard).
I've started writing notes for SC:L's mega review already but rest assured we'll all play through the campaign a couple of times before we render our judgment.
