Eventually, yes, after melee becomes boring I'll probably try to do some crazy stuff to get achievements but that shouldn't be for a couple years. Until then, I'll just do whatever and if I get an achievement, great, if not then who cares.

Heck yeah I do. In fact, I find these way more fun than placement rankings on the ladder. After playing through the campaign I'll probably aggressively hunt down achievements and see how many I can get.
As for 100%, fahgadaboutit. 1,000 wins as each race, including random, to earn the Dark Voice avatar and achivement. That would take forever.
For a second I read that as faggot about it instead of forget about it lol. I was like "what's he trying to say here?".Quote:

So I suppose no one will be against getting an in-game timer for SC2 like SC1' Chaos Launcher' Timer? :)
That would help out for the "Build X under 255 seconds" achievements, and also the "Defeat the computer in under 5 minutes" ones. Those are actually pretty challenging. I tried zergling rushing the computer for a quick win, but still ended up doing it in 7 minutes. So these kinds of achievements encourage players to hone their skills and optimize build orders. In a way it's training with a visual reward.
Before hopping on ladder I'll probably start by playing through all the medium AI achievements. And then will step it up to hard. Doing so would improve my skills with practice.
Ladder was never really that much fun to me, but achievements give me a lot of incentive to keep playing. I like the sense of accomplishment you get from earning things.
Not to mention timing practice and stuff. But I find it neat to just know how much time you're playing already.
I did it with the same result :D
In BW I was frightened to play on ladder and played no more than 10 games.
But SC2 gave me "I'm coming to WHOOP ya, people" attitude and I found the glory and joy of competitve gaming. :D
Hope you'd feel the same someday, it's feels really nice. :)
Regarding achievements:
- Is there a website we can review that comprehensively lists all the current achievements in the game? The Wiki seems to be outdated (http://starcraft.wikia.com/wiki/Achievements)
- Do people have any tips for the 'destroy the computer in under 5 minutes' achievement? What build orders and maps have you been trying?
Try 6 pooling it as Zerg.
Unfortunately I care about them. 1000 as all 4 races (including random) is a bit ridiculous but whatever. I already got a plan---> trick my placement matches to end up in bronze ---> zergling rush/proxy rax reaper rush/2 gates proxy zeal rush/ cannon rush ---> profit?
6 pool vs Protoss on Steppes of War is almost unbeatable. Bring your drones as well.
1000 games will take a long, long time. You'll probably move up to diamond doing it.Quote:

Slightly off topic, but I would be more interested in Blizzard's achievements if I didn't have such a big issue with how they handle achievements in WoW.
In WoW, you have a different set of points for each character. So all the accomplishments I did in the old world four years ago with my warrior does not add up with the current things I am doing with my paladin and I will start all over again if I make a new character in the next expansion.
I would be a Blizzard achievement whore if my six years of WoW were all added up to the same total. Of course this has no impact on how my SC2 achievements are displayed, but eventually there will be a big WoW, SC2, Diablo3 combined achievement number and it is annoying that I don't get full points for six years of WoW on a few different characters.
Oh... and 1000 wins with all four race options (including random) seems almost impossible. Even if you throw your placement games, you will quickly be promoted to even competition. So assuming an average 50% win rate, that is 8000 games of SC2.
I find some value in the avatars and badges that can be collected by completing achievements...
If a player sees that his opponent is sporting an avatar that requires 500 league wins...the opponent has earned a slight psychological advantage over the player.
And they look cool...
Now, like some have suggested...you can blow your placement matches and get placed in Bronze and wipe the floor with less skilled players and then ladder your way back up to gold or diamond. And along the way, you're collecting all those nifty achievements.
What the f problem ppl have with Bronze?! You know there's an even lower League called Cooper?
Sry Maverick, wasnt against you, just in general to all who think Bronze=totally screwed
Back on topic, achievements can always be tricked and winned with cheating, but some of Blizz's really require skill like the Fast Expo, Fast Zlot, etc.
Eventually a skilled player may win them without even caring or knowing they existed just by regular gameplay. But only a truly skilled or great cheater may win them all. The problem is it is hard to tell one from another
So your point is that it's a problem that people think that bronze is easy, and that makes you sad? Aren't you doing the exact same thing with copper players though?
=> Of course, that would only be true if copper still existed, which isn't the case as far as I know.
Copper, bronze, silver, gold and platinum are now bronze, silver, gold, platinum and diamond right?
Yeah copper is gone.
I voted NO, but that`s not completly true - I do not look up the achievments list and say "okay, lets trry to get this in this game" , but as I play and suddanly an achievments pops out I`m very pleased - a bonus to every win. Like this game I played as terran against protoss - he massed void rays, so I went for mass marrines + thors and vikings ----> And suddanly - Terran macro master ! :D ha !
I have the "Protoss Macro Master" archivement. You only need to have 9 units warping-in at the same time. Hardly a macro master :p
maybe pursue 3-4 achievements, but I don't play because of gimmicks. I play for story and fun.
Campaign for story and online for fun. Making a few maps along the way also.
Personally going for achievements seems like a waste of time to me.
Difrn't strokes Dustin. If I truly like a game I will play for the achievements. Some aren't hard. I've 100% in both uncharted games. It took a little extra time but not much. I'm still actively trying for mr. Invincible on Mega Man 9&10. That's not getting hit once for the entire game. That's how much I love them. It's the new version of your buddies challenging you to try and beat a level fast or without getting hit. For me, and many others, it adds a new level to the game.
Achievements are great! Very successful in lots of games including World of WarCraft.
I voted yes. But I do not indend to get 100% of all achievements.
I'm going to attempt getting all the achievements related to my chosen race...
Which appears, currently, to be Protoss.
But then again, after playing through single player, I may opt for Terran.
Digression: I wonder how single player will handle teaching basics of Protoss and Zerg.
Not necessarily...I just was agreeing with past posts that it is something that people might try. I'm actually in Bronze at the moment. :(
And I think that a normally Gold or Diamond level player would have an easier time against Bronze level players. He would have to lose some here and there though to remain at the Bronze level. More than a few actually.
But I agree with the rest of your post...its hard to tell where the talented player ends and the cheater rears his head. But to collect them all...that might be the only option.
Well I could always win 1 and then quit the other one on purpose and so on.
If we assume that I will win 70% of the time and that each game that I rush will last around 7 minutes max while the game that I quit will last around 1 minute max and that the time to get a game takes up to 20 seconds then I estimate that to get 1000 win as each 4 races in both team games and 1v1 games will take me around 1031 hours! Damnit... Now imagine if you wanted to get all all those achievements without rushing :(
Whoa. That's nearly 43 full days playing sc ii.
If they sound fun to get, I'll try to go for a few achievements, but for the most part I don't care about them, except for probably the ones that unlock portraits =P.
I really couldn't care less about achievements. I've disliked them ever since they were introduced. I guess it's kinda cool to show off to friends something you might have accomplished, but other than that, I wouldn't take my time to get any of them specifically. Just get some playing normally.
There's so many of them, something for everyone. But I don't think very many people will try for all of them.
Challenges and tutorials. (There will also be a mini-protoss campaign.) Personally I hope to learn something from the planned Legacy of the Confederation StarCraft II campaign, which will include a zerg campaign.
It would be nice if Antioch Chronicles did their Episode III for StarCraft II as well.
