Re: Performance has gone down the drain
if anything, I feel performance has gotten better...
-
Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Yeah, on my mac it lagged beyond all belief at medium and still lagged and froze from time to time when i set everything to low
Before the beta went down it was running perfect at medium and fairly well at high
Maybe its an issue with the latest patch and mac computers

Do these:
Update your OS, graphics drivers, sound drivers and the equivalent of DX on mac.
Make sure you set the settings on low from the default options available and do not custom create them, because it will slow down the game for several games.
After all this, you still experience problems contact Blizzard tech support.

8800 Geforce GTS
My graphics card ran great during phase 1, I would run along the edges of High and Ultra. I would actually have problems if I would try to play it on anything lower. However, on Phase 2, its totally backwards.
I am currently upgrading my drive, lets hope this will fix it.

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Your hard-drive? o_O
That seems ... odd ...
That won't really change the performance I think - it is mostly dependent on CPU/GPU/RAM power/amt. You'd do better upgrading those.
I don't think there'd be a significant improvement if you were upgrading from PATA to SATA. I could be wrong though.

Could you be less like one of those Indian Tech Support specialists.

Lol? What do you want him to do, Wankey? Get on his knees? :P
That's a bunch of decent advice he gave.

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Mine is awesome on max settings. Before, it would stutter a bit when a lot of units were on screen. Optimization must have been tweaked during the down-time.
Now, my frame rate is perfect and so far hasn't hanged a bit. And that is with only one 9800 GT.

So do lots of Indian Tech Support agencies for people who don't know what they're doing.
Do you want me to restart my computer as well?

Stop being so immature Wankey.

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
For those who have had their performance decrease since Phase 1,
Can you please post your computer specs?
(cpu type; how many cores, Ram amount, and video card model)
And what settings are you running it on. It's no use if you guys just post
"Shit my performance sucks sweaty donkey balls now"
I have a feeling the game was heavily optimized even more for dual core processors.
-
Re: Performance has gone down the drain
it's probably the servers, now it's fine

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
It works faster or at least the same to me. They got rid of the pylon blue field. It killed my on-board ATI video pretty badly when there were many pylons.
I hope it was only removed from low-quality, because the new markings are quite confusing.

c2d penryn 2.4ghz 4gb ram 8600gt
used to be able to play on 1920x1200 at all medium settings except shader and ultra effects and high models
Now I have to play at 1280x800 at low settings.

Update your bios, motherboard drivers(if available), check you don't have malware slowing your PC down, do a junk cleanup, defragment your partitions and make sure you have most of the background programs closes - skype, msn, itunes, etc...
If all fails and you still have performance problems contact blizzard tech support.
-
Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Anyone with basic computer knowledge knows to do all of that already.

Report this to Blizzard. That's a huge performance pit. I can play on low with integrated ATI HD 3200 graphics and Athlon X2 7750 2.7GHz

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
I understand that some fps drops may occur since patch 16 is buggy
But here is my situation
Was playing today at full ultra settings and the game was running fine
Then i lowered the settings to full high and the game was unplayable
WTH this doesnt make sense :P

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Wankey, have you updated your drivers and defragged your hard drive and run malware checker and turned off your computer...
;)

that is a big performance drop for sure, have you tried tweaking certain settings? Keep the CPU bound features low and try moving the post processing/video card based settings higher.
Also try to match the textures/models accordingly to how much video ram your
You should post a new thread in tech support with your DXDIAG.

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Sorry guys, but just saying "it's slower" doesn't cut it. Post framerates please.
I use riva tuner and a desktop gadget on my 2nd monitor to graph my performance. It's a good 5-15 frames higher than before. It also takes a lot more action to see a noticeable drop in performance. Still tweaking settings.

I know you are talking about people complaining about bad performance... But if you are going to mention good performance, while saying those complaining need to provide better information; don't you think you should provide more information about what settings you are running on?

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
If u are playing against ai try lowering the ram requiring features such as textures.

It's noticeably slower by a wide margin. Even at 1280x800, the performance sometimes dropps to a dismal 8-15 fps, I have to alt tab, and then alt tab back, the fps goes back to 50-60.
It's either some serious driver issue or bad programming for older cards on Blizzard's side, in any case, it's easily fixable so I'm not worried. I'll just wait till new drivers come out or Blizzard releases a patch.

Starcraft 2 will always lower the performance when switching settings for several games. In lamens terms it basically learns so it can make the best of performance after several games. Especially if you custom make the settings.
I suggest you find the best setting that suit you and stick with them. After several games, there will be huge performance gains.

If you go to ultra again, it works fine?

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
Yeah thats the odd part....on ultra settings i'm fine...try to lower to high and im dead:D i cant understand why that happens

It seems to me like someone did a mistake, and some effect, shader, or whatever they use at high needs more juice than at ultra.
-
Re: Performance has gone down the drain
what ur saying is weird....how can a feature that's being lowered require more juice while the visuals get worse too...that can only be programming error...
p.s ai takes away way too much ram and cpu power just for extreme microing

Same with me. The game doesn't slow down, it's unplayable. I set my settings to ultra for my gaming PC, and you can't scroll the screen.
If you keep the map not moving, the FPS jumps to 100+ but the second you scoll, it's like always loading something (I have even tried low textures, same problem) and the FPS just stumbles to like 5-10.
If I set it to ULTRA everything (even texture) and make the shaders HIGH, the game plays super smooth.
I think the problem is in the shader programming.

Re: Performance has gone down the drain
ill give it a try with low shaders
edit: nah just the same....but i dont get those slowdowns when im playing alone vs ai...just when i play team of players vs team of ai.
So i think that its someone elses fault

Team vs AI means more units and more computer players, which means more CPU resources used for AI, more used memory, and video, if there are many units on-screen, oh, and uses more bandwidth.

thats my point...not only does ai use more memory and cpu but the game overall takes up more bandwidth...and if there is someone there that slows the game down it affects everyone..
