Sorry I 'll change that, I was thinking of the wrong thing. :)

As anyone else noticed on http://blizzforums.com/, there's a link to sclegacy? Looks like we soon will have a flood of new members.
This is scary, it's a bad way just to avoid trolling users. Seriously those who troll are just going to use a false name.
I think this isn't a good idea, rather the other way around. To many players somehow, and you will not really be able to say what you want at some points. (scared of what people not agreeing with you knowing where your mail-box live)
I never go on B.net forums. It's full trolls and the community managers spoon feed the masses with generic crap.

I'm a big Diablo fan and it was really annoying when they just destroyed the seasons ladder by saying "Oh Hay Guise, a patch is coming out with a ladder reset"
"Yeah like soon as in the next 60 days"
More like 1.2 years later ... =_=
On this, I think it will be good and bad. I'm not exactly comfortable with having my actual name being listed on the internet and being archived. There are some ethics involved in this which I don't think is so great, the possibility of having your identity breached is quite easy. Having your Facebook (Which is a box of worms for some people), Email, real name, and WoW billing information? It's just a SIN# from being a total information hotspot for information predators to attack. If I hack into someones account, I will know where they live, their phone number, their face book and any private information there, their school/workplace networks, their close ones, etc.
Lots of customers already fall victim to the phishing emails...this is just going to make things worse in the long run.
Blizzard does not give a fuck about us then, they are making the facebook integration for two reasons:
marketing promotion and more marketing promotion
they insist with the real ID because they know that if people will start "liking" SC2 other people will see that by getting notification posts about friends activity
Holy shit 75 pages already on the wow forum version of this announcement!

let's be real online gaming has been heading this way for a long time now
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it funny that all the people who are like "how dare they release our names so that people can spam us" are the same ones that are going "here is the names of the people who are going to release our names so let's spam them". To me it sounds like you all are the problem, not the solution.
Im not completely sure why people are so overly fearful of people knowing their name on a gaming forum. There are TONS of worse places to put your name in that are more susceptible than the starcraft 2 forums. I do not use the battle net forums anyway, since there are other places that have the same news that are on the forums AND more stuff that I find useful. While this may not be the smartest idea, I am definitely not gonna be afraid of all the shit that COULD happen cuz that is just a sad way to live. Tons of shit can happen to anyone at anytime, I just choose to not let fear of bad force me to do something. Bigger things to worry about in life than someone spamming me in my Facebook account or something.
Just change your name on your profile and problem solved.
The only reson why you would ever need your real name and adress on your acount, is if you are buying something from their stores, if not you can get creative with your personal info.
This truly is the stupidest thing Blizzard has ever done.
Good idea to stop trolls, bad idea to promote a community.
Erm, BF was originally the SCL forums.Quote:

Lol imagine if they would implement something this for sc2 ingame usernames ,you wouldn't have the option of chosing your username or identifier anymore, but instead it would be your full name , taken from your real id.
I am inclined to agree. What do they hope to accomplish? I think they should've at least used e-mail addresses as internal identifiers while leaving the posting to display usernames. That might have worked better. I am totally with Blizzard on their intention to eliminate trolls/flamers, but this just isn't the solution.
Not necessarily. If people are afraid to post with their real names because of trolls, but this gets rid of trolls, what reason do they have to not post anymore? For the people who continue to use the forums they may feel closer because instead of just talking to "bigballslol16" they are talking to someone named Steve. People will begin to feel less afraid of being flamed and will show the non trolls that left with the initial 'purge' that there is nothing to fear because of the fact that nothing had happened to them while they had been posting on their real name. The community might shrink at first, but after awhile it could become stronger then it was because everyone would not have to be fearful of just being who they are.
The fact that any random POS can stalk me on facebook makes this idea bad beyond belief...
As an adult male, I don't care who knows my real name. But what about kids and the rare female gamer? Does Blizzard really want that kind of liability of their entire gaming network being able to look up real life info? Female gamers will constantly get harassed with attempts at real world communication.
And it takes very little information to turn a name into a street address.
For once, I have found a topic I can speak on so much I won't justify it with a wall of text...
Maul, unfortunately, you are demonstrating ignorance about the implications of online reputation.

I think people should be afforded the option to choose what they disclose (i.e. their full name) to other users, even if they are required to register a unique, legitimate profile with an organization.
I've participated in a member-moderated online community where people were accountable for the quality of their posts and interactions, and it worked rather well. However, forcing people (especially minors) to disclose their name publicly in order to participate in online conversations seems like a mistake to me. Full name disclosure isn't a prerequisite to having courteous interactions online.
*Moderators* Feel free to delete this post and its links.
It may eliminate trolls from the forum, but it won't necessarily prevent them from viewing the forums unless registration/signon becomes compulsory even for that.
Another thought is this could be a mechanism hackers can use to harvest email addresses to trick WoW players into losing their accounts. Just sniff the web/facebook for RealIDs to try and get an email address, craft an email with a fake WoW link on it prompting people to sign on, when in reality it's submitting their account information to hackers.
I'm suprised blizzard didn't even think about this.
(now I will get starcraft 2, but this might severely reduce the chances of getting an account on the new blizzard forums which I was looking forward to actaully)
And what can they do that someone else that has no idea who you are can do? Bad things can happen to you or anyone anytime at all. Do you really think that one website on the internet that displays your name if you choose to use it will dramatically increase your chances of something happening?
There has been countless things that try to phish WoW accounts from people. I used to play all the time, and played it since it began. And with all of the information Blizzard has put out saying EXACTLY what their emails would look like then that is the person's fault for not being educated at the risks. If Blizzard did not constantly remind players exactly the way that Blizzard reps would respond to them this would be a concern but it is not.
Yeah I agree with Jmac that there are other ways to get rid of spammers, flamers and trolls. But Blizzard just decided to do it differently. Instead of having people constantly staring at the forums and threads, deleting stupid posts, and all that; the moderators can actually contribute to the conversation. They can answer serious questions instead of having to delete over 9000 threads a day of spamming and trolling, thus getting us the answers that we want faster. It is not the best idea, but it solves the solution that Blizzard wanted solved.
Oh and Gifted, you must make your wall of text. We demand it.
I hate facebook and thus will never have an account. But this is not fair to release your name to millions of people.
I chose the word ignorant, because I doubt that you are aware of the extent to which human resources personnel use online resources for background checks.
If I'm seeking a mature and professional, albeit young employee, do you think I'd be impressed to see that you were -17 repped for a comment you made on a TED talk or that you frequent 4chan? Chances are that's not the impression you are trying to give to a potential employer.
Human resources personnel are just regular people who are responsible for screening a tremendous volume of candidates down into a small handful of potential hires. Like it or not, all it takes is an impression to move your resumé from the 'good' pile into the circular filing bin.
For all I know, you could be well-versed in online reputation management... However, I assumed that based upon your willingness to disclose your name online in association with a number of disparate accounts that you are not an online branding maven.
Finally, bear in mind that I'm no online sleuth, but just a regular person with access to Google. Since your interests in this topic were educational, I hope that myself and others have been able to help you see that online identities are difficult to segregate and that every action you take online leaves traces that can be followed and linked. Therefore, anyone (be it a stalker or potential employers) can follow the trail you leave, even years later. To wrap things up, I'm not one of these paranoid lunatics who thinks that the internet is full of nothing but computer viruses and pedophiles... but everything you say or do online can (and *might*) be used against you. Be advised.
WTF? Who's behind such decisions? This doesn't make any sense.
I don't want to give my real name to any stranger, nor i want to be possible to track what i do online by searching my real name.
I won't write a single word in their forums if this is implemented. Something like this was necessary for Facebook, but for the forum of a game doesn't makes any sense.
The forum crew should be really happy and behind Blizzard every bit though.
It means more new members for our forum :D.
On second thought, this might somehow be the best way to fight trolling. I haven't figured out how yet but maybe they have. Maybe we shouldn't blame Blizzard but instead blame the trolls.
Oh well, SCL has always been and will always be my main and, for the most part, ONLY SCL community.
And with that you can say goodbye to all of the trolls. Good riddance.
keep in mind if you do any kind of negative post, it WILL be shown up on google when someone searches for your name.. Basically, any job interview you do from now on, will google search your name to see if you are a total dick.. and if it brings up posts of you bashing people on the bnet forums, that wont look good.
Is that why the biggest assholes on forums are on all day instead of at a job :D Makes since. Makes me glad I've never once given away my real name on the internet. I'm like Secret Squirrel :D
I just want to say for future reference to any officials checking on me, I did NOT have sexual relations with that women.
Well I am a bit older now, but when I searched my old username on google I was redirected to element td forum. And some of those posts I made just made me look really stupid. At some parts I really whish those posts are just deleted.....
I don't want this to be turned up when someone searches my name. (or like I said, someone searching for something in a hectic discussion my name pop up with thoughts they totally disagree with. (like some extreme-religious terrorists) Ok, I might be overreacting I am only looking this through worst case scenario here have that in mind. It's not like something bad will happen to me because of this, but potentially in a worst case scenario it could happen.
*Also I am fond of using a nickname...
**But I really hope the trolling that is happening on b.net forums will be gone. (but there was to a much MUCH smaller extent on beta parts) So I'm not all against it.

Real-ID in-game was okay because it was moderated to who is your real life friend.
Now its just going to be plastered there? This seems highly unnecessary.
