Yeah that's part of the Bnet2.0 user interface apparently.
I'm curious about the SCV portrait at the upper right.
Points to consider:
1. This isn't the full b.net interface but merely the portion within Starcraft 2. The buttons seem to be a back, forward, play game, (unknown but I suspect UMS related), magnifying glass (search) and friends.
2. The upper right I assume is the account login box for Dustin Browder I assume. Since B.net accounts are NOT related to Starcraft itself but a personal identity.
3. There are chat windows in the lower right, easy to confirm
4. Bottom left have two buttons. The history of their interfaces are to "Start game" and "Cancel". This is merely speculation.
5. Upper left has the typical "Team setup" section of battle.net.
6. Upper right has map information and I suspect the open portion below it could be for the map settings that came natural with WC3.
This again is merely my interpretation... but it's a start to the discussion.
The button with yellow/orange wording at the top looks like it says "Play Game".
What I suspect is that it is an AVATAR and not just some rank picture system like WC3. Think about it in a more global option. Battle.net 2.0 is not just SC but it's own program. It would make sense that you could choose any avatar for it since it follows an account and not just a game.
Let's say you leveled up to Marine for your picture.. why would they associate that with your B.net account specifically and turn around and play Diablo 3. It's a theory that is.
Side note: If Dustin Browder did have an avatar, I'm sure we all agree that he'd choose that picture.
Battle net IS the same program, but we have seen games and programs like this that have multiple branches.
I feel battle net 2 will start linking your games and give you a general stat that will show your gaming abilities online and in the battle net itself. However you will be able to customise your own games within this mayor category.
For example, as your mayor avatar you will have a sandbag
Then several smaller avatars will follow acording to how many games you have bought and played.
SC2 you will have a Carrier
Diablo 3 you will have barbarian
but when you play inside a game you will see the game avatar as your main avatar.
Honestly, that looks pretty pimp.
Also honestly, I don't think certain portraits should indicate level. I mean, I love the marine and hate the science vessel or whatever for example, I'd like to keep my marine portrait. Maybe have your favourite portrait just as a global avatar and use a system of ranking which is shown under your portrait.
