I find it an interesting read. The history behind the most hated man in gaming, and why he's sad we all hate him.

as always arrogant with his mindfuck lies
Well whatever if he's really an ass or not, I'd like to be that guy he's supposed to help!
No matter how much he sugar coats things I will always loathe this guy with a burning passion. Jack Thompson is a joke compared to this schmuck.
I would ninja edit certain parts of your last post, Warsaw, if I was you...
Great interview.. He shows signs of being human, but I still think his philosophy is totally off.
Now we know why Blizzard is so intent on all the social interaction...Quote:
Finally, tapping into the ever increasing importance of social interaction, whether that means Facebook and Twitter, multiplayer gaming or including voice and video in a game.
Also, this guy sure is good at story telling.
Dude, they're rich. And who is going to be giving them trouble? Gamers? I'd say they're going to have a pretty easy life in society (if they learn to live properly instead of just being spoiled to the point of not knowing how to function without money).Quote:
also his daughters won't have an easy life in the society
He's a single dad.
He can't distinguish who he is talking to, and the proper words.
He blames people for taking him out of context.
He didn't think people were listening, but admitted he likes to poke the internet.
He thinks being on top comes with the cost of being misunderstood.
My response:
1. Bro, you are not the victim.
2. Bro, being on top is when you are below. The one who serves best is the one crowned. Remember the old days, man.
3. The ones with blood-shot eyes don't sleep well.
4. Sleeping too frequently with hookers will mess with your psyche.
5. Being in-love is not the feeling of finding the next prey.
6. Ask your daughters why they love the pictures, and what their statement really means. Is it because they think it has captured you, because it's so opposite of what they see in you it's so ridiculously funny, because they don't even care how you'd feel about them liking something so horrendous, etc, etc.
7. Just give us what we're asking for. It's not too much, is it?
I'm not an advocate of turning Kotick into a scapegoat for all the ills of the gaming industry as many people seem to do, but on the other hand I do believe that he has to take a responsibility for his words, and I find it difficult to imagine that the gaming community's response has been so surprising (or hurtful) to him if he spoke merely in jest. Even a simple apology from him will go a long way. Besides, he could take being the subject of Photoshop pastiches with more humour, up there with Gandhi and Hitler after all (and there is no such thing as bad press as they say). :D
So, what happened with his wife? I mean... I dont want to be a dick or anything but how is a super rich billionaire single (even if he does have 3 kids)?
I'm just poking my head in this thread to simply remind people of the FAQ that involves our forums rules. I think I'll make it a habit whenever I spy a Bobby Kotick thread.
Quite simply be respectful enough to share your opinion but don't take it further than that. Continue on :)
It's pretty weird. Being a business major, I can see where he is coming from and I actually respect him as sensible business man. He brought up Activision from making MechWarrior games to annual franchises that would take other companies years to make.
The fact that he can make a Call of Duty game each year (Yeah they're not VALVE Quality or anything, but they sure kicked the ass out of EA) and get people to buy em? I'm impressed.
But as a gamer, I feel like he's taken amany beloved franchises and ripped the soul from them. Cut-throat management and keeping the balance sheet tight by axing OctaneStudios for example, and anything else that can't pull it's own weight. Disappointing. I'm just afraid his business talk at the golf trips is gonna make Mike Morhaime (Blizzard) go that route too...if it hasn't already...
He shares the same philosophy as Blizzard, but his definition of "Prime Time" is different.Quote:
"Now we're in this great position where, you know, we don't have to make anything but the best games," he said. "It's a great feeling to say, 'That's not ready for prime time, go back and make it great.'"
Prime time for him is breaking even on release day and a healthy amount of revenue to make up for 1 patch...anything else on post developement relies on DLC sales haha ...
=_= (Which is pretty freaking ingenius.... I mean if a million people buy a 15$ map pack or a 25$ WoW mount....that's basically 25 million dollars in almost pure revenue...)
I feel like I'm seeing everyone fall for the classic misdirection once again. People in the gaming industry focus far too much on the person. Whether he is the devil or not is besides the point. What is at issue is what decisions Activision has made under his leadership.

ELECTRONIC CIGARETTES
CoD development alternates between Infinity Ward and Treyarch each year, so each game really has two years to be made.Quote:

Although honestly, even if they only had one year, putting Call of Duty: Modern Warfare (X) and developed by Infinity Ward on the box is a guaranteed multi-million dollar baby. Hell, even putting absurdly overpriced DLC that only puts in maps and nothing else is guaranteed revenue, as shown by the two map packs MW2 has.
So Activision really has no need to put quality over quantity. Hopefully Blizzard will stay true to their roots with Sc2
