also note that this battlereport is also from a build that's nearly 4 months old. In March they showed new building warp in animations in the blizzcast that wasn't in this battle report. In April they showed Battle Report 2 with updated UI that somehow wasn't in this Battlereport.
And lately they've shown death animations that haven't been in either battle reports. Screenshots showing completely redesigned Queen, Infestor, Uprated Roach (all of which aren't in either BR2 or BR3) So I wouldn't be so quick to judge any art assets in the battle reports as they've already been updated or stripped out of the game.
I wonder how the balance is now since we already know many of the things in the game are already different. Obelisk for example no longer gives pylon power and food. Nullifiers are already called disruptors.
We can go on and on but it's quite apparent that the amount of changes in the game is huge compared to the battle reports. If you want updated graphics check out the latest screenshots as they are probably from the latest builds.
Interestingly the Carrier is not in any of the screenshots as of late, and only in the death animations video - of which may be already 2-3 months old, Karune did say in a very old QA that they worked on death animations which couldn't be shown in screenshots.
Here's a question: do we know for sure this even is BR3? Maybe its a leaked scrapped BR. I thought I saw somewhere some community guy say it was official, but I can't remember.
Well, this is definitely BR3. It's already on Blizzard's US SC2 website. I'm quite sure it'll be released on Monday.
The thing is, this report is using a build BEFORE BR2 (lots of evidence supports this), so I'm assuming that they dug this one up from the replay archives, and then just did a quickie on the commentary because they had some spare studio time.
I dunno why this one wasn't BR2 and BR3 is based on a newer build.

Zealots destroy Hatchery, Mantaling is selected.
Are Mantalings the 'broodlings' that spawn after buildings are destroyed?
I guess so.
anyone else feel that nullifiers/disruptors had an unnaturally long range when attacking the overlord at 6:50?
yes, disruptor range definitely needs nerfed.
Force Field however, needs to be a 3rd tier spell. It's way too powerful for a 1st tier spell.
Then again we haven't seen hallucination. I believe it should start off with hallucination, then invisibility, then force field.
Unless they're going to make force field attackable, which makes it a enemy force dependent blockage rather than timed.
Good point. :)
Force Field was created specifically to block in tier 1. Its ultimate design purpose is to stop the Protoss player from getting rushed. Remember, by tier 3 we have air units, which Force Field is useless against. Tier 1 is the time its most useful. Any other times it gets used are just added benefits.
Force Field should be 100 shield energy with a time out. It works like this, early game, you don't have enough troops to kill it before it times out, so it works as usual.
In late game, yuo have a shit load of counters, ie more troops, and even the EMP will utterly vaporize force field.
Then Disruptor would be using things like invisibility and hallucination.
Um, I don't see your point. Phase Shift makes a unit disappear.. I assumed it made it go invisible. Bad wording then perhaps? Is it some sort of stun like spell? I only got one thing wrong due to misinterpreting the words, adding on the fact that I was merely speculating about the gameplay.
Nothing we know about the game is set, beta is coming to wipe everything off the board. Remember how Warcraft 3 changed during Beta?
I looked back at the SC2 intro and... the Phoenix's attack hasn't changed one bit. Neither has the Stalker's. So if it looks ugly now, it looked ugly then.Quote:

The Protoss didn't have any beam/laser weapons at all that I can think of in SC1, now they've got heaps. I don't like it, I like the energy balls, they suited the Protoss.
The stalkers attack has been constantly tweaked although overall it's still a line of blue.
They have two: Warp Ray and Colossus. The others fire energy that leaves a trail.Quote:

I really liked the Corsair's attack method of emitting these insta beams that splash. I'm kinda disappointed they didn't bring that back in any form. Heck the Immortal could've used such an attack easily, even without the splash. It's already an instant attack at range.
Wow, the amount of people screaming imba from watching 1 battle report. Funny.
As for this being BR3, I don't know what Blizzard is thinking. Why the hell show such an outdated build? Honestly. If they were going to do this, they might as well have done it 2 days after BR 2 because it wouldn't have made a difference seeing the effort taken was probably as much as commentating while eating and watching TV.
It's so outdated that the icons are in color now... and in here they are just one color.
Battle report 3 has officially been released on the main blizzard website, It's in the beta link repository
Not a single Hydras. I have reasons to believe these BRs are scripted. Just like WWE Raw instead of March Madness. I swear, I could have whip David Kim with ease.
What if you were to go one-on-one with David Kim, would you have fare better?

I think the little laser-like animations of the stalker and phoenix would actually look pretty cool if they beefed up the beam a bit, and maybe made the head a little larger/wider than the tail.
That said, I'm pretty sure the attack animations are still unfinished, especially the Phoenix's, as its attack does not even connect with the target yet.
I kind of agree with Noise on the stalker attack. It looks like a tickle beam, used to tickle foes to death.
Zergs have to play smart and that guy failed when he tried to micro like the asian guy in previous Battle reports ( the blink thing´with stalkers ).
Protoss seems to be horribly overpowered atm. Even without an Observer it was rather one-sided... The Protoss out-eco'd the Zerg even though the Zerg destroyed a big part of the Protoss' Probes :o
Warp In... Looks very strong to me, maybe too strong. Blink is something that can be very powerful when used correctly and I just laughed at how imba that Force Field was...
The only strong thing that I saw from the Zerg was the Mind Control thing. Other than that, yeah, burrow is cool but countered so easily. : (
Bah, please delete mods...I posted in wrong thread because I'm brilliant.
I blame the macro mechanics for that. The Zerg needs to out-macro their opponents, but it would be very hard to do if the Protoss player can get resources faster by clicking something at x seconds intervals. The Zerg have no equivalent mechanic.
Warp-in isn't too strong, unless the Protoss player has lots of Warp-gates. You can only Warp-in one unit per Warp-gate.
Force Field can be very powerfull to control masses of units, but it's hardly imba. It's just an ability that blocks movement over an AoE.
Force Field is very powerful in bottleneck areas. The cooldown is just too short, in my opinion. You can see how strong it was early game in the BR3, and he only had 2...
um...it was strong because it was being used to full effectiveness....
something being PRACTICALLY good at what it is SHOULD be good at? who da thunkit?
IMO, the real problem with force field is the disruptor having an attack. The protoss player often used only disruptors (with sometimes a single zealot as backup*) to corral and destroy masses of zerglings.
If disruptors didn't have an attack, the protoss player would have to spend money on stalker support, which means fewer disruptors.
Naturally it'll take the beta to determine if it's really overpowered or not. I think we saw some great uses of force field though. I loved how, after being ambushed by banelings, the protoss player used force field to cover their retreat. I hope the computer can be programmed to do that as well.
*Zealots don't work well with force fields. Stalkers are a much better choice.
