Baneling Rush too powerful?
Hey Everyone. I just discovered recently that Baneling rushes against any race is very effective. I always open with 13 pool against terran and protoss. 10 pool against zerg, 14 extractor or 12 extractor against zerg, and then spend my first 50 gas on a baneling nest and morph in at least 4 banelings before i push. I find this allows me to kill any walling supply depot with 4 blings and kill a pylon in 5 blings. I always mass a bunch of lings when pushing and has literally almost always succeeded for me. Once a zerg player went roach by accident (had no idea of my bling nest) and countered my early rush. What are your guys thoughts about this build? I can literally finish a game within 6 minutes with this build. 10 win streak so far after trying this :D

not very effective on diamond. The answer is in your building placement
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
Hmm really? I guess if a terran walled with double depots or with addons, it would probably be much less effective. Though banelings are very cheap, and I can get 4 or 5 out in no time. You sure building placement is everything? I haven't really seen anyone try this so I haven't really seen it fought off
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
And using stalker heavy armies (with blink later on) :D !
Stalkers kite lings amazingly if you only have 2-3 zeals helping out. AND, stalkers take very little damage from Banelings. Also, Immortals are great tanks for banelings. If I see banelings I tend to chrono an Immortal and get more stalkers than zeals with just enough zeals (behind stalkers) to hold up lings while Stalkers and Immortal and the occasional sentry or 2 deal all the damage. Also, if you DID get mass sentry zealots, just use FF as a shield if on open ground.
Banelings are only really powerful if you aren't prepared for it. But that's the same for any unit...
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
though what i do, is build 5 blings, bomb the walling pylon, and charge in a mass of lings... I find that very effective against early game units. And don't forget, i can do all this within the 6 minute mark... Late game I literally forget about blings unless there is mass ling or marines.
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
Within 6 mins, if your Protoss opponent does not have at least 2 sentries and a few zeals, then he sucks bad, Im afraid... And once you see that, switching to pure stalker for a bit and move out on the blings to tank their damage just nullifies the effect, and then have 2-3 sentries you can FF lings and kill quite a few. As I said, you aren't prepped for it, it's an auto-lose, but if the player scouts it and responds accordingly, there is no way baneling busts work into an auto-win.
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
If you think it's a solid strategy, abuse it! I see banelings as a way to punish wall-in's, especially in 2v2's.
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
Totally true! lol!
ALSO...
My FF wall >>> joo!
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
Hmm, i guess i just haven't really seen many games where banelings are used. I am learning myself and trying to improve my play. I just found this a very effective method of harass. I guess it is just like a banshee or void ray rush? If you don't scout and get ready for it, you will lose?
I play in platinum and apparently, nobody there i have played has beaten this build
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
You have to remember that near the start of the beta the baneling rush was much more popular. Things got switched around and so people didn't find it very effective anymore. Since it's so rare, people are easily caught off guard.

Oh i actually didn't know that... I joined the beta like halfway through so I assumed it was a strat nobody thought effective. Though one toss player commented that he was annoyed that he saw that build in every zerg matchup he played. Idk if he was just raging about his loss and terrible pylon placement or if it was really true ^^ (seriously, he had 1 pylon powering 4 buildings, though that is a rare case i can find such a good kill :D)
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
scouting is a big issue, if you opponent dont scot you (zerg is one of the important races to scout) to see if they go for a fast hatch or 6 pool then they arent that good to begin with. Also if by 6 mins and you havent done anything, like fast hatch then they know u went 13 pool and would tech to roach or banelings. Sometimes fast lair/spire is done as well.
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
I think that benglings should have less damage because of the number you can produce quickly, and cheaply.
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
No, banelings are too taxing for their damage at the moment, and the fluctuation of your army count has to be managed properly so the zerg can survive even a small counter-attack. Should you nerf them, make baneling nest morph a little longer, or make banelings morph a bit longer. If you've ever explored strats involving banes, you should know what I mean.
Besides, it's easy to stop. Massed banes at 7-8? Just block the path with armored units, and while he can't do anything, tech to air for ownage.
Re: Baneling Rush too powerful?
As a terran player, I meet quiet a few Baneling busts in the beginning, but if you place you units right and get just a single hellion(I often used them for scouting or distraction at that time), the zerglings are easy to hold back.
About banelings not being used that much any more, I just played a 2vs2 where my partner didn't wall off and went for a mass marines --> tank build. Damn the Blings did a lot of damage :D(sorry but it was pretty awesome to see all that green acid)
