Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Consider this a slightly polite nudge/reminder... We currently have a nifty contest involving terraining for people. The entries are limited right now. Think about it this way, if you make a terrain, odds are that you could actually have a VERY good chance at the prize if you merely put some effort forth.

Don't tell LoA I posted this.... Shhhh

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Believe me, if this were some other contest, like maybe a straight-up art contest, I'd participate, but the intricacies of the map editor are beyond my ken T_T.

Thread rule: Use the wisper system to post on this thread... (Italics)
Pss Gifted, remember I have to meet your friend with a nice high definition, fast computer... Just saying

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
T_T, I would love to join if only I am in beta, Im willing to do it for free if needed be.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
You don't have to be in beta dreadmourn, if you can find the client somewhere, install and patch, you can open the editor and start on maps.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Hmmm I have yet to touch the editor... is there a chance I could still learn enough to do some Terrain play? I wouldn't mind throwing in an entry, I have some few ideas.

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I wasn't even aware of this contest.

*winks* That's part of the reason I tossed a note here in the forums, I figured awareness was low as that day had a lot of news. We're working on ways to improve awareness of the frontpage elsewhere in the site.

Some suggestions:
1. Post sticky threads in this forum that have a link to the article and also allow discussion within that thread (naturally deleting/merging duplicate threads). I know y'all used to have that news forum, which got removed due to redundancy (a thread would be made there as well as here), but if y'all posted the same thing you normally would have but in this forum, then it should be fine. (Didn't y'all used to do that?)
2. Tie in the front-page article postings with the notification system y'all have for PMs and Friend Requests and such. Make default setting to throw up a small dialogue box like it does for PMs ("A new article has been posted! Do you wish to view it now?" and "Press OK to view in new window or CANCEL to view in this window."). Allow the option to revert it to give "silent" notifications like it does for friend requests.
3. Use the "announcement" thingy to shoot up an announcement on all forums, notifying everyone of the new article.

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
How do I even get into the map editor?
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Through the "StarCraft II Editor.exe" in your StarCraft II folder ;)
Good suggestions, n00bonic :)

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Post a terran editor contest with a tutorial on how to use the darn thing, then you'll probably see more entries. I'm slowing figuring it out bit by bit, but if you wanna see maps equalling the sample you posted, honestly you may be left holding your breath.

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Oh, that was more a direction to aim for, we're not looking for perfection :) It's just another form of canvas that some people can find out how to paint with. Don't fret too much

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Entry submitted. Do I get DQ'd for having the staff hold my hand as I figure out the editor? :p
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I made mine in four hours last night from 1-5.
I'm sure whoevers reading the emails knows that. Time sent. 5:47 AM.
(I need to sleep).
Also: Question....since it's before the deadline, can I resubmit my entry? I was too sleepy and forgot to turn up my resolution for the shot so i have crappy resolution on my image sent. Plus, just noticed a some issues with it's layout, the crashed ship is positioned in a way that overclutters the shot and detracts from the beauty of the skyline.
:D
Tons more issues I have with the shot. Kept on changing thematic styles halfway through some doodads and the feel of the terrain mismatches with the later stuff I added. Started out just wanting to capture the mournful landscape of a dieing world, not in some grand cataclysm but of slow atrophy, a noble, serene death, and then I got carried away and made a small vignette of a "plot".
(Original shot was just a closeup of the coastline, which is why it's so inordinately detailed compared to the rest of the shot, and the stuff in the front)
Still, it was a pretty nice intro to aesthetic terraining. Never really did that before, not much of an artist. Though I'm pretty familiar with level design.
Also, getting units to pose in the Editor is a bitch -_-.

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Shit, didn't think of that. Yeah, I should turn up the quality on mine too. Can I resubmit mine as well?
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Also the rock on the mountain on the left kinda looks like a monkey head. Wanna fix that xD.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I miss the news forum waaaah.
And this sucks, I'm in Hong Kong with no access to SC2 and crappy internet. Else I totally would have entered in this contest.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I will personally say that Resubmissions are allowed at this point but I'm not an administrator. I'll get you guys an answer soon if an admin doesn't come here first.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Yeah - resubmit away - just please put in the subject. Resubmission:
:)

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Just a quick question from my side: Are people from Europe allowed to participate in the contest? I looked for any rules concerning that, but I saw none.
I already send in my submission, but it is something I want to know... :P After all... Else I am disqualified. >.> ^^'

I submitted away, but my machine is limited to 1024x768 and had a really lowres entry.
IMO, the contest rules should state a resolution next time, to even out the competition between people with different machine configs.

If you are worried about it, perhaps you could request somebody with a better rig to get an HD shot for you?

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I'm trying to make something but I suck at using doodads. And I can't think of a scene.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Content extended until June 20th.
NewComplex - I don't think we got yours.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I suppose you can blame me for shrouding this contest with other news. :(
Everybody! Make some cool terrain and get to work!!! :D
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
Well now that you guys have extended it, I think I might actually be able to enter. I've been very busy as of late; thus, I have been unable to have access to the computer that SC2 is on, much less play with the map editor.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
I've decided to take a crack at this, and I've got an idea for a scene!
However, I'm kinda hopeless with the editor =/. By default, all the graphics in the editor are on Low - can someone please tell me how to increase the graphics level seen in the editor? I can't for the life of me find the option to change it!
Also, how do you rotate doodads that you've selected? :p
And lighting...I'm gonna need to worry about how to position lighting, maybe :S.
Thanks! >_<

File -> Preferences -> Video
All that you seek will exist there.

Crap. I sent it at contests@sclegacy.com under "halfthought@____.com" Resending then. I'd be cool if you could throw me a PM or a reply if you get it.
New one is titled "Newcomplex's Submission/resubmission [SClegacy Terraining Contest]"

Ooooh, thanks for that! ^____^

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
So now that the only thing we can do is map during this hiatus, I assume we'll get lots of submissions from everyone? :P

Thanks Gradius :P
edit:
Oh yeah, on my resubmission the picture I linked to is different then the picture attached. The one I'd like to have judged is the one attached, the one I linked is copypasta from the last one lol.

Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
3 more days! We still need entries.
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
How 'bout you just give the books to me and call it a deal? :)
-
Re: Reminder: Terraining Contest still seeking entries
O crap three more days and I can't still get the screenshot done...
OK I'm looking for the owner of a fast and HQ computer that can support SC 2 with Extreme Definition and effects. Send me a PM and I'll mail you back both the map and the instructions to take the screenshot.
TY on advanced if anyone is out there.
