Starcraft II Beta goes on hiatus May 31st.

Nethaera - "We’d like to let all of our StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty beta test participants know that the first phase of the beta test will be coming to an end in all regions on Monday, May 31. The beta test will be unavailable for several weeks while we make some hardware and software configuration changes in preparation for the final phase of the beta test and the release of the game. We plan to bring the beta test back online for a couple of weeks prior to the game’s launch to complete our testing. We’ll have more details to share about when this final beta-testing phase will begin at a later date.

We’d like to thank all of our beta-test participants for your enthusiasm, dedication, and valuable feedback during the beta test, and we look forward to hearing more of your thoughts on the StarCraft II beta test as the game’s July 27 launch approaches."

I think we'll be able to use Galaxy. Testing a map doesn't require you to log in to b.net.

btw, the system just shut down for some maintenance. I wonder if they're doing a reset now.

I've got mixed feelings about this one; a reset, and only two more weeks to go?

Granted, the last reset only gave us a span of what, 4-5 weeks to test things out?

But still...it seems horribly cruel to players who have been working hard for achievements. Though I understand why they need to be reset (it's horribly easy to abuse the placement match system for achievements. Get a bunch of partners and play low-division players for relatively free wins)...the resetting of characters/REALIDs is awfully annoying.

I remember that SC and WC3 betas allowed for accounts to be both created and kept--if I do recall correctly.

Feel free to correct me on this one, haha.

Side note: Battlenet is down atm (2:40 EDT) seems like their going ahead with a reset i'd assume for the next two weeks... dam Gonna have to give out that key early in this week in my livestream heh.

There will be a second phase thou they said! most likely the start of july till release or the end of june for 2 weeks i'd say.

Judging by what has been said over the past few months, I think that they are preparing the servers so that players can publish their maps in this second phase of beta.

Completely revamped sound scape.
Remodelled carrier and thor
map publishing
clan meeting halls

I am sad for the temporary loss, but deep in me I realize the day that the real release decends upon us.

I'm actually kind of glad for the reset. I want a chance to do my placement matches over. I've been stuck in copper for three weeks and think I belong closer to mid-level bronze.

Maybe even low-level silver.

Blizzard loves me so much. That's the last day of my summer. This way I won't have any distractions.

As long as the map editor remains usable (and i don't see why it wouldn't) I'm fine with this, hope we get some nice large bnet changes and map publishing before it comes back up in july.

Horribly cruel? No way, it's an achievement that means nothing and is going to be wiped anyway.

I pre-ordered yesterday the Special edition package, at an US store, since in Mexico they dont give you a beta key with the pre-order. Today, they sent me the Beta Key, the one that i've been asking for for ages. Then Blizzard releases this... Fuck you very much Blizzard. I hate you from the very bottom of my heart.

Summer starts...No SC2 beta! On the last day I have school, heh!
That's kinda funny, but also a good sign, since this means we're approaching the final release!

I'm guessing we have at most 2 more patches to test before they close things down and do public stress tests. I was definitely expecting a lot more than that.

Wow, I'm surprised it's going on hiatus so soon :p.

I think think it's safe to say that we can certainly expect a fair amount of balance patches post-release as well. In many ways, it'll still be like the beta :p.

Is there any chance at all that the Beta Crusher achievement will carry over into retail? I don't know if I should just mass games to get it after the next reset :p.

that sucks D: i am glad though that things are bringing brought down to a simmer and they are getting ready to release the game via shutting down the beta for a while and reseting the servers to make way for new in game stuff (and a hopeful fix to the sound)

Hrm... maybe he might NOT be fully dreaming about some stuff.... I wouldn't get my hopes up as the sounds assets could be specifically for battle.net, but ya know... there is a LOT of player feedback regarding the unit sounds... who knows...

I wonder what's going to happen in those dark times. I'm sure it won't be considered a "calm before the storm".

Keep in mind people that they said the first phase of the beta will be ending.

By extension, this means there is a second phase.

Gotta test map publishing.
