Say what you want about the overall scale in-game. However, there is a definite sense of scale between ground units even if it is not exactly to scale. What I mean is that you can tell that Zerglings are definitely smaller than Marines who are in turn smaller than Siege Tanks. That's what I feel people are clamouring for; that there should be a noticeable difference in size between the Siege Tank and Thor.
The solution, to me is simple. Reduce the collision size without equally reducing the model size. This would help solve the pathing issues without too greatly impacting on the Thor's aesthetics. The consequence of this is that they will simply be able to pack themselves more tightly. Sure, there might be some instances where, if you look carefully, their arms might clash through one another. However, considering people don't complain about Void Rays flying right through Colossi, I don't see this being too much of an issue.
Thor should be 2X bigger and the BC 10X bigger to be 'to scale' IMO.
BC's are big enough to house hundreds of crew members.
Here's how I think all the units would be scaled:

Exactly: Finally somebody with brains, not some random dude that loves to exaggerate hoping to be funny. OH YEAH YOU WANT SCALE??? MAKE THE BATTLECRUISER THE SIZE OF A MOON. Smart guy huh???

Now that is what the thor should look like. At least in size. Im starting to think that the older design was better than the new one. The guns on its back are too much. Everything else is fine.
You still wouldn't be able to fit the cattlebruiser onscreen. And I you zoom out, all the other units (with exception of the thor) should be represented as specs.

I mean c'mon, does THIS look like it would completely fit on a map?
Come on, it's not THAT big. :|

Did you even bother to look at the new Thor and the current Siege tank? If you feel they are relatively the same size, I don't know what to say. As it stands there is a substantial gap in their size to make notice of either one on the field.
As for that old Thor model, that's the exact same model people complained about being unrealistically proportioned if I'm not mistaken. I swear its impossible to please everyone.
Oh god you must be having a hard time right???
He used the EXAMPLE, to show how relative scale is important. Thor must be bigger than tank. Period. How big? Well thats other story. I never said that tank and thor were the same size, don't know where you read that.
I used what he said also as example of what everybody in here is trying to say about scale and size, because a couple of lads in here tried to be funny saying that if we wanted scale, the battlecruiser should cover the screen. Fortunately now I know that they are clowns, so i'll take their comments as they deserve to be taken.
But I hope you understand.
hmmm so u want to play a super realistic space RTS... u do realize how boring that would be.... you want to have marines look like ants next to battlecruisers and carriers? and u do realize the game is in the future, like centuries into the future, obviously there will be some odd things (btw the healing light is actually a on-going study right now.)
Dude you have no idea what you're talking about. Literally just pulling stuff out of your behind. Scale has absolutely nothing to do with how the unit is represented.
Look at SC1, unit scale was way off:

SCVs the size of Vultures and Wraiths. Production buildings with looks so squished and disproportionate.

Carriers barely any larger than Dragoons. Archons nearly the same size.

Reaver - supposedly a mobile factory looks tiny.
Scale isn't anything in the game. It is meaningless. Thor is large because they originally envisioned it to be. But playtesting showed it isn't fun to have large objects in the game. The unit looks pretty good resized.
What is your problem anyway? Robot fetish?
The Thor is 1.5 times bigger than a tank. The Thor is 0.9 the size of the building it's built from. It's still a big unit.
What I see is people who already dislike the Thor finding an excuse to say 'it's not the right size, it should get a new model'. Is there any legitimate reason for it to look any different? No. It's the size of a building. It's by no means a 'small' unit.
Stop fearing change. It was too big to begin with, and making it smaller has helped its pathing immensely. Sure it could use a few minor tweaks, but there's nothing wrong with the scale. If you took a lineup of every unit in Starcraft 2 and asked someone who'd never followed Starcraft 2's development what they thought of the scale, the Thor wouldn't be the only one that looked too small.
Well, here is the Hyperion next to the Carrier. After that, mutas and the Gantrithor.
In short, the mutas are actually much, much tinier. They're just not flying right next to the Hyperion during that scene the way they did with the Gantrithor.
I'm also a bit amazed that the ultralisk is actually smaller in unit than I thought.
The Thor still IS bigger than the tank.

Yeah, what about it?
/fap/
But the grey is combat paint, much harder to spot a gray unit, than a shiny metalic one, combat units are not suposed to shine or have a glair in the sun, or it gives away their position, that's also why no current military vehicle has a metalic paint , like normal cars have ;)
"Thor, what is best in life?" "To crush the Zerg, see them driven before you, and hear the lamentations of the Protoss."
Even if they made the Thor the size of an scv, he would be still one of the most badass units in the game:D
At first, I thought Thor was too small, but now I think it is really perfect! It is slightly bigger than Siege Tank, and I love it! It so much more mobile and not buggy.
Nope. I've wanted a smaller Thor since first seeing it. Now if only they can do the same for the Ultralisk.

Which color do you think is better??of course first viking..
All units have officially painted gray .. not any realism.
Yeah at first look the first picture looks bether, since it's more detailed, but it is also to colorfull. This are suposed to be war machines, and not some circus units.
Sorry to say, but you are an minority, there were thousands of people coplaining in the past that the game was to colorfull, so they changed it to what we have now.
While i do agree that the models could be made bether and more detailed, i don't want them to be more colorfull.

Thats the thing though. The Thor is already substantially larger than the tank. Theres already enough disproportioned units in the current build that I see no reason why people are complaining about the Thor.
...and to that, I, along many others have constantly told you, its already substantially larger than the Siege Tank. Where is the problem??Quote:

Wow. There are like galaxies of distance between the first Thor design, and the new one...
But if i can remember, people complained a lot about the first design... I can't imagine why they aren't saying anything about the new one.
I would blame the model rather than the gray color. It would be a much better comparison if both units were the same model. In my opinion though, I have always rooted for the old Thor model. Turn him gray, just give him back his old model, and he'll be better. ;)
It looks fine in game. You get used to units looking like they do after the Xth game you play. It's not as if the Thor is sticking out like a sore thumb. It still looks like a Terran unit, and functions the same way it always has. When I play the game, all I take notice of are selection circles and health bars. Graphics are only a concern when it's too difficult to make out Unit X with Unit Y.
Personally I don't see anything wrong, so I don't understand what the issue is. Is this unit really that bad in the game? When you make a Thor does it really look that bad as a unit?
-Edit- Kadaj, looks like you just got the beta this week, so I'm figuring you haven't spent the last few months using thors and getting used to its look in game?
I was one of the people who was bitching about the Thor design, and I'll tell you why I'm not bitching about the new one:
I recognize that the old model is wayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy better.
The reason why I'm not bitching about the new one, at all, is because I've just given up. My loathing for the ridiculous concept and unit that is the Thor, which is just damn-well GOING to be shoe-horned in to the game, has only just made me angry and tired me out.
So honestly, I gave up. I prefer the old model, and I have no idea why they changed it to the new one, but whatever. I use the unit on occasion to defend against Mutalisks, and its ground damage is pretty nice, especially if you can sneak it in to somebody's undefended expansion to take out worker units, but otherwise, meh.
The model itself is cool (or at least, the original one), I just hate the unit, its design, and that it goes in some anime (*cough* Robotech *cough*) and I hate that Samwise has literally said, "HERE IS UNIT, MAKE IT FIT!" and that the design team has done so. There's a few units that are clearly that way, and I find it disappointing and extremely telling of the philosophy behind creating this game.
So, true to its word, Thor is here (to stay), and so I just accept it, no matter what they do to it.
Ive been playing the cracked version, so I have the idea about the Thor size. After playing BETA for 2 days, i can say its a little bit funny the new size. I can get used to it, but it looks silly.
Are you saying i have to play more??? 24 hours a day??? 26??? Ok i'll do it sir... :p
I'm saying there's an obvious difference between someone seeing these changes through playing the game, and seeing these changes through screenshots and heresay. It's hard to tell what your experience is with the game when in another thread you mention you 'just got the beta'. That's all.
I am sure anything smoking and.. I am sure you are kid.
and I don't care anymore ..this is not starcraft space..go play buggy and go play plastic toys.
