My question is, why on earth did Dustin nerf the *number* of roaches. This is ZERG. They're supposed to have numerical superiority.
They should've just nerfed zerg health or something.

I like the Roach nerf, it avoids massing a bit. Though I'd also like to see a change in it so it's not quite as swarming as it is currently (and probably after the patch aswell). Something like an HP-increase and damage reduction, maybe in form of attack speed increase, keeping the DPS stable, but worse vs units with armor upgrades or inate armor. It doesn't have to be so totally hard countered by Immortals.
Edit: Also merged the two "Patch 12"-threads and renamed the topic slightly.

Um...Zerg are supposed to mass and swarm.
My question is: is Blizzard trying to convince Zerg players to switch races? Not only are Zerg less interesting, but Blizzard consistently nerfs the more interesting parts of the race. The one really useful new unit the Zerg have keeps getting nerfed, without significant buffs to other ones or new units being introduced.
The Zerg may still be fine balance wise after these weekly patches cease, but I highly doubt they'll be nearly as interesting as the other races.

I don't get the Roach Nerf either... if they made it to cost 100 minerals or so, it is already a pretty balanced unit. 2 supply instead of 1 is pretty huge nerf.
Now that we will have less Roaches, and with Marauders/Immortals completely destroying them, I don't see reason for making Roaches at all.

I think it's really important to read the situation report as it relates to Roaches. The reason that they nerfed it was because 200 Roaches was unstoppable.
The question is just how big of a difference will it mean to the early game? We need to put things into perspective here. You can still build a lot of roaches. You just have to make extra overlords first.
The way things were before you had to have 1400 minerals to make 16 roaches. That's 75*16 roaches + 100*2 overlords. Now it requires 1600 minerals to make 16 roaches. It's not nearly as big of a nerf as some are making it out to be.

I think it would be cool if Vortex could cancel out all spells (psi storm, fungal growth, nuke, etc). That would be a cool trick for saving your units as well as trapping the opponents. Yeah, early game it isn't that big deal, but when you look late game, if you want to make just Roaches(just an example), you army is now 50% smaller... in late game that nerf is pretty huge.

It's still doable but makes the expo a tad late, and one roach falling behind.
What I like about this is zerglings can be out more in this very time frame, which is by far very small.
In ZvZ, a roach heavy guy will not have much drones or another queen in place, and the longer he sticks to it, the more muta-ling can come against him.

Ive never seen somebody go for 200 units of the same type. Also, 200 supply of any unit must be hell to anyboyd. WTF with that explanation????? Bring only 50 supply of air units and bye bye your 200 roaches.
Are they going to test 200 units of everything?????

It's not necessarily about making 200 roaches. I realize that the upper limit is rarely reached, but I think it's mostly about balancing unit compositions. All things being equal, max supply of 200 is more balanced now I think.

Well, mass upgraded Roaches was scary actually, even if you went for 50 Roaches, that was pretty strong army and took up only 50 supply. Now, that army will take 100 supply, 50 Supply on Workers and what will you make for last 50 Supply? Not much indeed.
Predicting Patch 13:
Roaches are now melee units, their speed is reduced and their gas cost doubled. This should balance them for good! AWESOME!

Actually, this is pretty good idea: so many potential improvements with just one change. At least it’s a really good suggestion for the editor/mod.
