k...just got pwned by emp...
hey guys, was playing a game an hr ago where i got pwned by a ghost emp...dunno why i didnt see it coming
need some tips as to how to improve myself to wistand this in the future, replay is attached.
yes i know, still a bit newby, but believe me im way better than i used to be :P lol
which i guess doesnt say alot, but meh
again, any tips plz, other than build HT's....as at that stage, i was already in the robo immortal stage when i saw his tech labs, i thought marauders. yes he reaper harassed me early, but i had a quicker stalker that put a stop to it. to get an HT i woulda had to pretty much build right than and there the buildings for it. and i didnt know he had a ghost academy till my scout observer saw it....boo lol
anyways, need help on this plz!
edit: watched my replay a couple of times, and i noticed 2 of my critical mistakes were not pushing after his reapers came at me, and not switching strats....coulda easily switched to collossi or atleast expanded...bah...

I'm sorry to say, but aside from some tricky micro specifically aiming for the ghosts or pull back when you see them... the counter to ghosts is to go high templar and scout the ghost beforehand.
I didn't see the replay but my best suggestion overall is to ensure you're constantly scouting with observers.. an issue I'm personally chronic with.

see, when i originally scouted his base with my probe, i knew he was going for his inital reaper harass, as his base looked setup for it. so i prepared for that
by the time i got the observer in his base, his ghost academy was already done....by the time i pushed his ghost and emp was already out, without me noticing, and my guys got pwned.. lol

Gotcha, yeah. I'm sorry that the one thing that you didn't want to hear is what's to be said, but that's unfortunately the case in this point.

hmm, well than i guess i'll improve my micro :)
also if it wouldnt be too much trouble, if an expert like yah gifted can watch this replay and find some faults i can improve upon (yes i realize there may be many lol)

What I do is get a few Phoenix to graviton the Ghosts, then swoop in with my army while they're still in the air.

In PvT I'm REALLY preferring getting Templar if hes going MMM. I can feedback his Ghosts and Medevacs and Ravens and Storm his Marines in one hit. Then all the money I saved while spending gas to get Templar goes to Chargelots which mop up his Marauders.

see but as u can see in that replay, his ghost mixed pretty well with those marines, that i never even noticed he had made one yet. how would i be able to target him for feedback or for graviton beam? also, he had a ton of marines, the phoenix would have gotten focused down

Feedback with high templar?
Dark templar to sneak to the back of enemy lines and kill Ghost?
Blink behind enemy lines and kill ghost or blink away from EMP radius?
Sentrie's forcefield to seperate ghost and some others from the fight?
Hmm... that's all I can think of... void ray on the ghost academy?

I personally don't think this would be very effective. Cost wise to put things into perspective, Phoenix cost more than mutalisks so you are economically at a disadvantage. This will also require the player to have a StarGate which is not very feasible to get in the short-run since High Templars, and Collosi are much better options.
They also need to be in a relatively short range to do this and therefore they won't last very long if the Terran player is a bit smart.

moosh, that's too linear, you need a combo of tech sometimes, depending on the map. ON short rush distances, you coud get away with 1 tech advancement, but you need a higher or complementary tech when going further down this road. E.g you start with zealot/stalker/sentry the switch to zealot stalker templar with a few sentry for FF or GS. Then, either get Air, or Colossi with stalkers and HT.

TBH Phoenix are pretty good at lifting and disabling units. IF you can pinpoint the ghosts while in the battle and lift before EMP hits, then u win the battle with ground v ground.
Using Phoenix's harassment with grav beam on scvs is what you want. You wanna force the T player to rine up more than he needs to and then use zealots/stalker and FF to block them in a temp choke-point and take em out while getting your phoenix to lift any marauders or ghosts.

Just fyi, I've learned recently to put Pheonix into my gameplan specifically for their graviton beams. This is aside from the large army to support it (with the exception of some Zerg players that after scanning I go pheonix all in now with patch 11, it's insane.)

This does have some truth to it, but a couple things need to be pointed out:
1) Phoenix are not just for gravitoning ghosts. Their use extends far beyond that. I simply build this unit because it's so versatile. For example, their crazy speed makes them excellent scouters. They can be used to snipe Medivacs. They can also be used for harassment.
2) Getting a stargate for Phoenix allows you transition to Void Ray critical mass later in the game when you're running off a few bases.
3) Yes, Marines can, for example, attack the Void Rays while they're disabled and lifting a Ghost, but this can be a good thing! If Marines are wasting firepower on Phoenix, then that means they're not wasting firepower on your army, most of which has units that attack via a shorter range than graviton beam. The key is to time your attack well, so my advice to people who aren't interesting in doing that is that HT is the way to go instead.

I don't have much experience with these things so I can't comment on everyone's else suggestions, but I can't imagine being able to really pick all the ghosts out of an army fast enough to prevent emp from going own. Whenever I go against terran I divide my army into several groups, the smallest of which I send head on to absorb the emp, and then my heavy hitters like colossus and HT move in. It might not work as well for some builds, but I use super-mobile armies of air, colossus, and stalkers w/ blink whenever I can. Not to mention when a Terran thinks he had a sure-win and sees two armies larger than the one he's fighting move in he usually panics and doesn't react with well-placed EMP like he should. Sure you may get a fourth of your army blasted apart with emp, but it's a sacrifice for the other groups (which I sue to pick of the ghosts with energy asap.)
