The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
K, so it has been well known for a while that you'll need to connect through B.Net 2.0 for everything, even single player. While it is true that 99% of people with a computer have internet access today, there are times when it's impractical, especially for those of us with laptops. We might want to play some campaign/comp skirmish in many places without internet access. Here is my list, and hopefully other people can add to it.
1. When the power is out.
2. When the internet is out.
3. On the bus/train to work/school.
4. In a cafe/airport/hotel where I am too cheap to pay for the internet access.
5. On a plane.
6. On a ferry between islands. (eg. Vancouver and Victoria, or PEI and Nova Scotia.)
7. I'm not sure exactly how much it needs to be attached to the internet, but if it's anything but a start-up thing then people in rural areas, on military reployment, or with crappy routers can get suddenly disconnected.
8. When I'm in line for Heart of the Swarm and Legacy of the Void.:D
9. In a park or on the quad at school because the day is so gorgeous I can't bear to be inside, but still want to play SC2.
10. When I'm meeting a friend who goes to another school and don't have access to that school's Wi-Fi while he or she is still in class.
11. When I'm at my grandmother's house in small town PEI for a couple of weeks during the summer.
So here are 11 uncommon but by no means rare situations in which internet access isn't present but someone might want to play SC2. How many more can you think of?
Re: The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
Easy, Play Starcraft 2 Single player campaign or Comp stomp in offline mode. Just be aware you will not get achievements. I don't know who told you that you must be online to even play the game. Bnet is just highly suggested due to integration.
Re: The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
If you're worried about not being able to play Starcraft in those situations, you should probably play less Starcraft.
Re: The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
1. If the power is out, you can't play Starcraft period.
2. Play offline mode or vs AI
3. Why do you need to play Starcraft while travelling? It's not a portable game.
4. The best doctors in the world can't cure cheapness
5-11. Refer to #2

1. And how do you intend to play without power?
2. How often does your internet go out?
3. Play a skirmish. It's not like you'd be able to be competivie on battle.net while riding on a bus.
4. Your problem not blizzards.
5. Play a couple skirmish games. It's not like you would be able to do anything more if there was LAN on an airplane.
6. Now you're just trying to come up with anything for your argument.
7-11 are just retarded.
We aren't talking Ubisoft DRM here. There will be a guest mode for playing any of the singleplayer bits offline.

I agree with the above and some points of the OP are really funny.
Why would you want to play SC2 on a fairy or on a vacation?
Even on an airplane one is quite funny.
Re: The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
It will suck the most when you've got beer, kropek (or if you're in the US, potato chips), 8 PCs/Laptops in one room... and there's no net connection.
Imagine 8 PCs with SC2, and you're all just playing single-player simultaneously. How sucky would that be?
Re: The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
Hey now, don't knock singleplayer. It's gonna rock. Even in a group environment.
Re: The complete list of times when need for internet will be annoying.
I hadn't noticed that there was going to be an offline mode. And for everyone saying "you can't play without power", notice that I mentioned laptops in my preambulatory paragraph. A decent battery can give you an hour or so of play.
And what's with this "it's not a portable game" stuff? Any game you can put on a laptop is a portable game.
Also, some of you need to take things way less seriously. This was meant as a whimsical thread for jockular semi-griping.

Im not knocking it. Its just that its SP... what are you gonna do once you complete it?
There's no doubt SC2 SP will rock. It will be the best single player RTS experience. But the keyword is single.
What are 8 guys gonna do with single player experience? Race each other in finishing each level?
