creating dt's without power to dark shrine...bug or intentional?
I was tinkering around with an idea i had and found out that even though my dark shrine was not powered by pylon power or by warp prism, after it completed i could still make dark templars. I also tried this with the cybernetics core and found out you can still build units but of course can not research upgrades. Does anyone know if this is intentional or an actual bug? And btw if anyone wants to try it for the fun of it, on lost temple i build a dark shrine on top of the double high cliffs in the middle of the map (not where the xel'naga towers are but the others). If anyone knows if this is intentional or not, lemme know ty ty.

I think it intentional.
Surely, no one would have missed such an obvious bug :)

They released a patch that allows larva not to die. They can definitely miss this bug.

Just because it's not powered doesn't mean it doesn't fulfill the tech requirement. The building exists, therefore you can make DTs. Removing pylon power only stops the respective building from functioning, meaning if you want to stop the DTs you have to destroy the Dark Shrine, or get the Gateways/Warp Gates out of pylon power. Same reason why you can still warp in cannons even if your forge is unpowered.

Well said! I would like to add that the same situation exists in SC1. The only thing you can't do while unpowered is conduct any research the building offers until you repower it. Conclusion: Intentional.

Was it this way in SC1? I can't remember.

everything in the game is more or less intentional.
Re: creating dt's without power to dark shrine...bug or intentional?
Unfoly: By definition of saying "prety much" it's always good to question something, just to be safe. Sometimes that odd question will bring out something important and is a key component to a successful beta test.
Something to relate is that when Zerg buildings are off creep, they still provide functionality, they just bleed out until creep returns.
Terrans when lifted off still give the pre-requisite, but can not use active abilities until grounded, therefore creating a sort of same scenario with terran buildings as protoss would unpowered.
Re: creating dt's without power to dark shrine...bug or intentional?
Oh sry ive only tinkered with sc2 a few times only.
but that being said upgraded tech(like weapons and armor) are permanent too right?
Re: creating dt's without power to dark shrine...bug or intentional?
It's intentional. In general, tech buildings don't need to be powered in order to fulfill tech prerequisites; as raven points out, this is true in SC1, as well.
