Eh, you can get to the platinum league with placement matches by playing normally. And you're certainly not going to stay there if your only strat is cannon rush.
I love being cannon rushed, free win each time.
Hmm, I assume cannon rush can work against zerg (though probably not as well), but I notice there were no zerg players in your video compilations. Have you tried this again any zerg players yet, sysrpl?
It was a fun video to watch, but yeah, this strat (just like in sc:bw) will fail 9/10 times against skilled players.
Cannon rush doesn't work so well against zerg. The creep outranges/prevents you from placing cannon close to their hatchery. Also, their primary first building (spawning pool) opens up the zerg ground static defense (sunken colony) creating stalemates.Quote:

Cannon rush works best against protoss. They basically have no defense against it other than scouting your probe/pylon, getting their own cannons to stalemate you, or getting lucky by playing on a map where cannons can't easily be hidden.

First of all, thanks for posting the video. I would much rather see cheese in a YouTube video than in game so I can think about how to prepare for it.
As a Protoss player, assuming you fail to scout it, what should the response be?
I am thinking get a couple Zealots out then all-in his base with probes/zealots?
Maybe there is no effective Protoss counter other than scouting it before the first cannon finishes? :confused:

I don't think this guy's posting this video to show that he's good - he's just having fun :).
At the moment, it seems relatively easy to get into Platinum. Easy enough that you can do stuff like this :p. It's almost like a game: coming up with cool/funny ways to get into Platinum :p.
Thanks to the beta and its resets, this is actually a viable 'hobby', but once retail comes out, we won't be able to do it anymore, since we only get one account :(.

Yeah, uh, I've only played 2v2's in gold league with my toss friend and a couple of games ago someone tried to cannon rush my partner. He just killed the buildings then we went on to win since that guy wasted his time on an early forge.
Getting into platinum is pretty easy in this reset. I played some terrible players and got ranked high platinum. I'm not saying I shouldn't have been there (even though I probably shouldn't be), I'm just saying there's no way the algorithm they're running would know this or not from such easy games.
So, my point is, you don't need to do anything special to get into platinum. Just play your best. Besides, why would you want to be beyond where you should be when it could ruin some of your fun because you're only going to be getting your ass handed to you most games.
