How do you customize the value for ability cooldowns?
From what I've found it seems like you have to base it on an already existing abilities' cooldown.
Which seems so counter-intuitive to me. It didn't work that way in wC3, why did they design it this way for SC2?
Okay, another issue.
Made a custom unit. Gave it a custom attack.
Problem? It attacks... from the ground. It's projectile fires from below it, the actual ground. I'm not sure how to fix this at all, or where to look.
Also I've tried giving it an AoE attack, but it won't work. I think the damage is too low, because I accidentally gave it an armored bonus, and the AoE attack worked on Armored targets when it had that.
Does anyone have an idea how to add new decals? There are some unused assets in the sc2 files, decals from the campaign... (decals for the Sons of Korhal/Dominion and Alpha Squadron)
When trying to select the decal within the data editor, I get only this message
"Warning: Unable to load image from 'Assets\Textures\decal_terran_0005_01.dds' (Core: a required object could not be found)
So I exported the stuff and imported it with the Import tool. In the preview of the Import tool, they are now displayed properly, but I still have no idea what to do with them...
I don't think import functionality is in the game yet.
Actually, after trying it out a bit more, it finally worked... I was able to select the texture that I've imported. (also, people imported WoW models already, so... ;P )
Still, if I try to make a new texture in the data editor (in the texture tab are the decals... at least that's what I believe...), I can't select it inside the editor. So I'm still stucked with my problem. -,-
I'm looking for a way to place one cliff type directly on top of the other. Is this possible?
I know it wasn't in WC3 and it doesn't seem to be here, but no harm in asking.
Also, while I'm here, has anyone figured out how to do that lava raising trick yet? I haven't found anything.
Just wondeing how do you import models?
Do you mean placing an Organic Cliff on top of a Manmade Cliff (or vice-versa)? If so, DemoSquid said all you have to do is Tools > Brush > Allow Cliff Merging (the shortcut is Shift + I).
As for adjusting lava level... I'm thinking it's possible with triggers, but I haven't been experimenting with triggers so I don't know. It might also be one of the things that aren't yet included in the Galaxy Editor.
Thanks KD. I looked through the triggers before asking and didn't find anything... the only thing remotely similar is "hide water" but 'hide' doesn't seem right, combined with the lack of option to animate the 'hiding' process makes me think that's not it. Guess we'll have to wait. :)
NEW Q!
How in the world do we set starting locations? o.O I tried doing it through regions, but they don't show up as options on the Player Placement screen.
edit: neeevermind, figured it out. Silly Points. Although that Team Placement window sure is neat. :)

Really great tutorials for simple tower defense, WoW style camera, lighting and cinematics and more. Also he was very helpful with helping me find bugs when I tried recreating his tower defense tutorial. Really good stuff.
Would anyone happen to know when Blizzard is planning on implementing map publishing so that we can test and play maps with friends?
I believe it's in the works for beta.
Does anybody know how to find the properties of exiting water on a map? I'm editing somebody else's map, and I want to extend the water, but I don't know how to check the exiting water properties to get them to match.
Does map publishing work for anybody?
Not for me. :(
The editor currently isn't set to connect to the correct server. Here's the instructions for the US.

Ive got everything set to publish, but how do you optimize file size? Its the only error I'm getting.
File -> Preferences -> Documents -> Optimize Saving for: Smaller files
That might fix it?
That helped, but now still getting the generic "Unable to publish due to errors" message even though its not listing any errors, and my "OK" button is greyed out >_<
Are there any errors/warnings in the Messages window (ctrl+shift+m or Window -> Messages)?
It might not be letting you publish at this point in time because I think they took down the publishing feature for the time being (to help with server stability I believe).
Just to be sure though, you arent nearing your size cap/published maps cap are you? For beta at least, you are limited to 5 maps and 20MB with no single map being bigger than 10MB.
This was before they took down the servers. I published 4 maps with no problem. But the 5th, the one I want to publish the most, the first one I tried to publish, will not work. No matter what I do, the "OK" button to finalize publishing on that one map is grayed out.
Once again, it was refusing to publish BEFORE they closed the servers.
How do you lock a map?
Cool thanks.
btw, I recently discovered this thread on the official SC2 beta forums for map editing. I posted it here.
Does your map name contain any spaces squid?
The map that won't publish is called Dominion. Its the first and best map I made.

I'm glad this resource is here...but alas...I fear that this will be one editor that I will never even going to come close to working competently with, to say absolutely nothing about mastering. I'm never going to have enough free time, I can already see it. :(
This editor looks like it will demand months and months, if not years and years of practice to master.
How many maps have you published Demo, and what's their cumulative size in MB?
Each user is only allowed to publish 5 maps at 10 MB max each, 20 MB total.
I have heard that the censor is in place for maps as well, and that maps cant have the same published name as another map (unsure on if it produces an error). What happens if you change the name of the map to something else?
Same, I opened the thing up and instantly have no clue what to do. I try to make a river, it just sticks a square of water in the middle of nowhere, I try to even it out with some cliffs and nothing happens, can't tell what the textures are because they're all called "Texture.d00" or whatever. I wanna enter the SCL contest but the damn thing is so confusing. I haven't even looked at the trigger functions yet and am scared to because I know they'll give me headaches. I had fun mapping in SC1. SC2, I'll sit out. I don't enjoy it enough to have to spend weeks to months figuring out how to do what ought to be the simplest things like making a damn river!
Didn't Blizzard once say that anyone could make a map, this editor was so good? I guess they forgot to mention that while anyone *can* make a map, they'd better read all the tutorials and spend months learning how to use the editor before those maps will be any good.
How To Make A River
1. Know that there are 4 terrain levels.
2. Know that water starts at height 7 and the 2nd-to-lowest terrain is at 8.
3. Form your river from the 8 height terrain.
4. Fill in your river with the water squares. The cliffs of the height 8 terrain will cover up the water's corners.
5. Yay. You made a river.
