I sure need this too. A lot will be needing it. I don't care if it requires the client to log-in to battle.net before the lan mode can be accessed, but having the LAN is a must, IMO.
Agreed. If the executives wish tighter control on the playerbase as well as stronger security for eventual community marketplace items by requiring internet logins, fine by me. But not having a low latency option from the same household is just mind-blowing.
I've already tested two accounts from the same household with Battle.net 2.0, and the results are that EVERY user's packets get routed all the way out to the ISP and all the way back -- there is no intelligent peer-to-peer system going on here. Want to play an eight player local matchup? Be sure to have a strong internet, as you'll have degradation for every player, and an increasingly larger ping regardless.
I think they should make a LAN version that can only be used while you are still online and logged into battle net.
But i can understand that if someone cracks this then the sales will drop a lot for blizzard since piracy will be the number one choice for every casual player that wants to play a few games with friends.
If i have to concider this from blizzards side too, then the benefits from having multiplayer on battle net 2.0 only is so big compared to allowing any form of LAN.
Even if they miss out on some customers, they will probably lose hundreds of thousands more if the lan version got cracked and available for download.
And i mean lets face it, most people that doesnt even have internet would not buy the game even if it had LAN, they would just download it. Since LAN goes hand in hand with piracy. We all know offline mode will be cracked instantly.
Firstly, Hi everyone! Quester Pro here!
I reckon we really need to see what Blizzard is doing and for what reason(s) before we judge them!
We can't go around blaming them for something that pirates forced them into!
Alterran is right about the crack- where there's a will, THERES A WAY! And frankly, they're only getting better at cracking- faster than anyone's stopping it.
I did sign the petition to bring LAN back- only because I belong to a large family of 10. and most of us all want to play SC2. does that mean 7 of us need to pay $60 US dollas to play against eachother? I'm a homeschooler- and the bulk of my friends are too- and we all have large families and we all want to play. I reckon if we buy 1 copy per family, Blizzard should let us put it on multiple computer and use LAN within our own household!
But hey- I already pre-ordered the SC2 Limited Collector's Edition- and i already knew they didn't have LAN support. But Blizzard is Blizzard, they've never let me down before, and I still support what they're standing for. I'm with them all the way! Go Blizzard!
On a side-note, Not only did they give us the best games in the world, one after the other, they always included their Legendary Map/World/Galaxy Editors! i mean, who else gives you that kind of power? - I know some games have map editors- but they're a drop in the ocean compared to Blizzard's Technology. WarCraft 3's World Editor was sooo powerfully customizable, we created games that had no relevense to warcraft itself! Things like, DotA, TD's (LTD was the best!), Footies, and good old Hero Arena!
IF anything, we should be greatful that they even bother making them user-friendly for us to use! - Blizzard doesn't have to share their Programms with us - That's their choice.
Also, I might add, I'm sure Blizzard has most likely, Obviously, spent a lot of time thinking this over- i mean, its not like, "How can we make more money?" They are standing up for what's right! Piracy is crime. Its stealing. and obviously a lot of people already know this- they simply just don't care is all. Well who's going to put a stop to it? Blizzard isn't crime-supporters are they? NO THEY"RE NOT!
Alright. Thanks for reading- I HOPE I DON"T DOUBLE POST! sorry if i do, Cheers,
The Quester Pro.
But if it come's to the point where progamers drop the game because of no lan. What is most important to Blizzard, a community like BW had or a game that will sell really well the first months and then be forgotten?
lol. i wonder if anyone is going to bother to read my long posts.... XD :P
I did ^^Quote:

Haha! Thanks! I appreciate that at least someone read one of my rediculously long posts.. XD
Im 130% sure SC2 will not be forgotten in a few months. If the pro gamers complain and stop playing, then blizzard will be forced to fix the problem to get the public back into the game. But i dont think this will happen, blizzard will for sure help arrange better connections for tournaments.
And there might still be updates with LAN options if blizzard notice it will be worth the risks.
Remember that there is nothing stopping blizzard from adding LAN support later.
Also consider its kiiiinda hard to forget a game that has 2 more expansions comming :D
