Thor - 250mm Strike Cannons against Immortals
I haven't found an answer to this question via search function and looking at the last three pages in this sub forum, so I guess it either hasn't been answered or it's so common knowledge that noone has bothered to ask it.
Whatsoever, I want to know if a Thor can oneshot an Immortal with his 250mm Strike Cannons or if the Immortals Hardened Shields prevent this?
Another note: Wouldn't it be a good idea to make a summary thread for such minor questions about the game mechanic?

QUOTE] Yes ! 500 damage over 6 seconds is counted as 'special' damage so the hardened shield will NOT prevent a kill...EVERY ability that deals damage will ignore the Immortal's shield-yamato,250mm cannon, nuclear strike,psi-storm,feedback,snipe,Seeker missiles, etc...of course feedback and snipe can't target an immortal but the damage they deal can't be reduced by anything...

About psi-storm - it deals 80 damage in 8 bursts of 10. The Immortal can only take 10 damage max to its shields from a single hit. So its only good for bypassing shield upgrades.

I'm gonna take a moment here to voice my distaste for this whole "mechanic." There's nothing wrong with an ability to counter the Immortal's shield. But that ability had damn better look it, graphically. If the game proves to us time and time again that "fast, small" attacks are the kind that get through the Immortal's shield, then the Thor had better start shooting a bazillion tiny rounds per second, not the explosive ones he does now.
This is a complete and total violation of Blizz's visual clarity/intuitiveness principle.
Yamato should just deal 10 damage, period.

What's ugly is that those cannons are stealing the fun from siege tanks!
I mean, isn't the thor supposed to be the main terran GtA unit? Why does it have more GtG firepower than GtA firepower? Shouldn't that skill be GtA AoE with less stun or something like that instead?
Re: Thor - 250mm Strike Cannons against Immortals
Thor 250mm strike cannon kill a full health immortal. This is really sick considering the immortal can't run away and if used in mass the backbone damage dealer of the protoss army is disabled while melting.
Yamato dealing full damage to immortal is totally stupid if we consider the yamato strike to be some kind of bullet. But it is not, it is a concentrated mini-nuclear bomb. Nuclear bomb deal damage be very very high temperature and gamma radiation. Concentrating all the radiation and the temperature on the immortal would not activate the hardened shield, hence it is totally useless against both yamato and nuke.

fixed. Why Immortals shields ignore this or that is just due to game mechanics, they don't care if it makes sense or not.
EDIT
It's possible to come up with lore explanations of what triggers the hardened shields in order to make it have sense.

What about "regular lasers," then? They're not bullets either. Should the Stalker, Immortal, Colossus, and Void Ray deal full damage to Immortals too?
Once you make a single exception it's very difficult to prove that that should be the ONLY exception and everything else just HAS to be the way it is.

The Thor is not supposed to be the main Terran GtA unit any more than the Marine is. If anything, its original purpose was to take down armored units such as Siege Tanks, and its GtG firepower is necessary for that.
That said, given how much damage the unit deals standard, its ability is far too niche to deserve being kept in. Sure, it's useful in some circumstances. Everything could be useful in some circumstances. That doesn't excuse its lack of creativity.

No, it's not. People keep thinking that, but it has never been true.
The Thor is a multi-function unit. It does many things.

You're misunderstanding.
As far as I understand, the shields do work against the 250mm cannon attack. The problem is that it is a rapid fire attack. It isn't a one-shot attack, which is what Immortal shields block. It may negate the first 10 attacks, but the ability keeps shooting.
