Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
This thread is going to be a place for everyone of you to confess about something new that's in SC2 and that you hate the most. Try your hardest to focus on features, additions, units, or perhaps abilties that typically differ from SC1 or other even other RTS games you enjoy. Keep it mind that these making these confessions won't make you guilty of not loving SC2. Making them will only allow you to cleanse your soul before this beta ends!
Here's mine. Unlimited unit selection. I really don't give a rat's ass about the other UI changes or new macro mechanics. I personally believe that unlimited unit selection changes this game in a very big way for me, and that it might tie into why some of you feel SC2 is more of a macro game. It leaves a bitter taste in my mouth.
Now its your turn!

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
The Thor is no longer my most hated Terran unit gameplay wise, it's the Reaper because imo it shares a role with the viking.
However, the Thor's ugly design, voice, and useless/shared gameplay mechanics with the siege tank, push it over the edge.
Also the game has horrible unit voices, but that seems obvious for most people
While I can't say the unlimited selection is definitely bad right now it is very different feeling, so I can see where you're coming from.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
The thing I hate most is probably how much the Zerg don't seem to have evolved, or basically grown with new, fresh, inspiring things like the Protoss have with Warp In.
Maybe Warp In is such an awesome, interesting, fun mechanic that everything else will pale in comparison, but that's just how the Zerg seem to me.
That and the Thor. Very clearly a unit that was built on, "omg wouldn't this be neat?" and then they got a big damned hammer and mashed that square peg in to a round hole, because god dammit, that unit was going to fit one way or another.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Lack of an inventory system and RPG stats
On a more serious note, I hate the inability to cancel a game once I start it; or cancel a find-game after I hit the button. Seriously, I know they want to prevent people from dropping before a game starts, but at least let the HOST have control over that.

Haha. Well I did play that SC2 contra map where the marine gets an exp bar.

I wonder if SC2 will get as in-depth as WC3 can with its RPG elements. I do hope they will fix your canceling problem when retail hits.

It's the same glowy orange button that the countdown is in :p. You press it to cancel :p.
I dislike not being able to watch replays with buddies, THAT'S what I dislike!

Mech being not good enough.

For me its the lack of replay integration with Bnet. I would love to be able to see them with friends.

All good confessions so far, but this one struck a nerve.
http://replays.heroesofnewerth.com/
It's probably not very classy to compare B-net 2.0 with a game in another genre, but I really do think that a number of features in HoN could be implemented into B-net 2.0.
In Hon, you can retrieve match stats via punching in a match ID # while in game and then you can go one step further and download that specific game's replay from within the game. You can also click a "Compatize" (sp?) button so that old data from an old patch and be downloaded and implemented in order for you to watch that old replay without any mess. We should be able to watch all old replays once retail hits though, so thats covered. You also have a chat room system and a solid lobby system that we haven't really seen in SC2 beta yet.
Another big thing is the ability to reconnect to games. I understand there are major differences between the MOBA and RTS genres, but I think the ability to be able to reconnect after a crash or d/c is very possible and it should be implemented. In a 1v1, you would probably already be toast by the time you reconnect, but it could make a big difference in a 2v2 or larger team game.
Also, you can log into the HoN website to access any number of persistent player or playerbase stats, including how often certain items and heroes are used. I think B-net 2.0 displaying build orders and other race statistics is pretty good as it is right now. Still those are some things to think about.
I might make a thread about things B-net 2.0 could have that other games like HoN already have in a week or two. We'll see.

I am -really- hoping that Blizzard is holding back a ton of features from Bnet (they are obviously holding some off) that will surprise me, features I haven't heard of. From what it looks though in terms of UI, I guess I shouldnt be expecting much.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Not being in beta =P
On a serious note, from what I've seen I'm not a big fan of phoenix (though I'm a protoss player)

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Mothershit, Reapers, phoenix, ZERG...

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
The only unit i 'hate' or probably not hate but never use is the Battlecruiser....All other units are great...

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Motherhip, why don't they scrap this costy, slow, useless and available in only one copy arbiter?

I'd rather they fix it. I like the Mothership as a concept. During the first few patches it was a unit I would constantly make.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
How Zerg almost ALWAYS has to get the roach. And no lurker for zerg...
-
Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Very early game, especially zerg. I hate having to stare at the mineral readout and wait for it to reach 50 so I can hit "S" or "E". It's worse with zerg; you can't queue up drone production, so every millisecond is costing you. And then comes the first supply block.
Early game plays almost exactly the same each time. The only difference is, do I make an overlord first, or a spawning pool, or maybe an extractor. Or deal with a very early rush. It's all boring. I feel like skipping the first three minutes of every game.

But these are some of the biggest decisions that you can make in the entire game. The early game affects all that is to come. And if you’re getting supply blocked... maybe you need to pay a little more attention in the early game. :p
Anyway... for me, it's the BC's voice and the useless things he has to say...

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
I realy dislike how useless the defencive buildings are in sc2, i gues Warcraft3 , DOW and C&C games have realy spoiled me with those :(
( if they don't want to increase their health , then they should atleast increase their range , to atleast 9 :D )
I hate to rush, but since i don't have the option of playing defecively at all, rushing is the only choice i have, bether to atack him first :p

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
I'm afraid the raw creativity of the game will be toned down and replaced with sanitized production values. Without proper game immersion by good unit voice acting, story telling, and sound environment, I'll never get as involved as I was in the original.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
motherbiter,
plastic units design.

On the widest scope I hate the general lack of creativity surrounding the Zerg. The Protoss have Warp-In and Chrono Boost. The Terrans have multipurpose add-ons and interesting options for the CC. Both the Terrans and Protoss have cliff traversing units. The Zerg have nothing but creep highways and a Queen that sits at the base all day. I wish they would really give the Queen something awesome to do, like that Mobile Hatchery idea I had a long while back.
Regarding macro mechanics, everything sucks. Instead of actually putting in some interesting macro, they've just thrown in a bunch of half-assed annoying game pace acceleration tasks. The mechanics could be so much more. Chrono Boost could be a channeling ability that would cause the player to make some careful decisions about what's getting boosted, instead of a fire-and-forget ability that the player can just throw around. The Terrans could be gifted with the unique ability to manage their resources in highly dramatic ways, instead of "choosing" between three abilities that have no real tension. The Queen could be the ultimate addition to the hive cluster, having an important part in producing reinforcements and taking care of the hive, instead of just sitting at the base like a little housewife with nothing to do but knit all day.
Regarding specific units, I hate the Mothership, Phoenix, and Thor. The Mothership is just some sort of bizzare half-assed hybrid between the Mothership it could be and the Arbiter of the past. I personally would go for a smaller, more sensible Arbiteresque incarnation, but I really just wish they would make a choice between the two, even if it means making the Mothership strong as hell. The Phoenix is just a tasteless unit that does a poorer job than the Corsair and Scout combined. The Thor is just a weird filler unit that could be replaced by two or maybe even three units that have more defined roles.
I think that's all that I really hate.

You know what she means, don't be mean. :p

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
I wish the Protoss had the ability to warp-out buildings and relocate them since the Terran's ability to Salvage is now more or less all but gone (save for the bunker). It'd also be nice if there was some more creativity put in when they designed the Zerg.
The soundscape is a real disappointment, too, along with some of the unit models and animations. Zerg are, in my opinion, the worst when it comes to animations. The Carrier being a scaled up, recolored Dark Templar support vessel really sucks.
EDIT: Also the lack of Battle.net features is disheartening. The custom game browser bothers me the most. We won't be able to name our custom games? We just have to host and hope people click on the map? Also the inability to reconnect after disconnect and ... pretty much everything stated earlier in this thread.
ALSO! The region lock is beyond fail.

See, now I think this is something of a matter of opinion. Because I think all three of these things are true. I think the Queen is an AWESOME base management unit, and Chrono-Boost does involve making careful decisions about what's being boosted. And there is tension between the Orbital Commands abilities if you want an easy scout or if you think you're going to get DT rushed. :P
I don't like spawn larvae, and I don't love the macro mechanics, but I think they're OKAY overall.
The only thing I really hate about the game is the lack of Zerg STUFF, particularly where their spellcasters and mid-game options are concerned. I think some slight improvements could be made to the Queen, but overall there's nothing I really HATE...
-
Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
1) No replay w/ friends
2) Zerg don't have that great mechanics/units and are generally not a fun race. Spawn Larvae is boring/repetitive and the devs aren't going to change it.
3) Protoss airforce is disappointing. All Protoss air is support units. Phoenix is useless and I don't really care if it's apparently amazing when used properly in its extremely small niche; you can say that for any bad unit. The Phoenix will be the Scout of SC2.
4) The lore seems to be taking a turn for the worse. Not because of writing, but it doesn't seem Blizzard is that interested in consistency, which is a big turn off for me. If they don't want the responsibility of handling the previous game's lore, then start a new story arc.
5) Some models are bad like the Carrier & HT.

I think that's all that I really hate.
The Zerg has the nydus network/spawn larvae/creep tumors which have unlimited applications...They also have burrow, burrow movement....I think zerg is probably the most interesting race to play-at least they are better than Terran...And why the hell does everybody hate the Mothership? Do you realise that this is the ONLY unit which present on the battlefield can win you the game????? Mass recall has HUGE AoE,do you even know how effective it is at busting a sieged up terran or a island expasion fortified like hell? I think they are the greatest unit in the game....

This isn't any different than the original StarCraft, though. The Corsair and Arbiter were the only regularily used Protoss air units. Both support.
And the Void Ray isn't really a support unit. Just a highly specialized one.

No you can't... besides that, the Phoenix doesn't have that small a niche.

It so won't be... the scout served NO purpose. The Phoenix does everything the Corsair did and more. It's not as overpowering versus Mutalisks, but it's got other stuff to make up for that.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
The roach sucks, its attack animation sucks.
Also the hydra needs a new attack animation.
And make defensive buildings more useful so that it is worth building them and filling out bases...I hate how empty bases look especially the zerg.

You bring several Void Rays to a fight against any units that can hit air for a similar cost and you will lose (except maybe against Thor). It's a specialized support unit.
Sure you can. That Hydralisk nerf you're so fond of for example, it's not making the Hydralisk a bad unit, it's just specializing it's role (now you can't bring it around Psi Storms :P). But, it's still amazing when used properly!

Sure, you will find some use for Phoenix in the late game when you can actually afford to tech to it. But it's not really a viable option for harassment or anything else in the early game. And as far as "the other stuff," like DS said, the ability to remove a cheap-as-fuck unit from the ground while disabling a Phoenix is not enough.

Beats Corruptors. Can beat Stalkers pretty well. Beats smaller numbers of Hydralisks. Still, being highly specialized does not make something a support unit.

Yes it is. It's making it incredibly weak because it dies instantly to AoE that it can't avoid. It's not specializing it against anything. It was a knee-jerk reaction to a strong mid-game Zerg army. Psi Storm was already bad for my Hydralisks. Now I can't even micro against it when I'm on the creep.
Anyway, I don't see what that has to do with what I said. The Phoenix is really good at it's niche. It's a cheap, durable unit that can be good support for your main army, and is a great fire fighter. (Ala the Hellion/Reaper/Mutalisk)
Quote:

Yes it is! It's a very easy unit to harass with. Particularly against Zerg. Who have late AA and who have super-vulnerable Overlords.

"The other stuff" is harassing workers, killing the queen. This is stuff the Corsair could not do. This is stuff the Phoenix is very good at.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
1) Mothershit
2) Zerg Macro
-
Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Meh.
I'm a Terran player, so I really don't have a problem aside from the Thor. But then again, I've always had a problem with the Thor.
Hell, I even like the Terran Macro mechanics. Choosing between a mineral boost, seeing what the enemy is doing, or quickly boosting my pop cap is a fairly big decision for me.
What bugs me the most is the Zerg. I haven't played against them too much, but it seems like their only option is "Mass and A-Click". Corruptors will tear through Vikings like a hot knife through butter, but I've rarely seen the Infestor used, and never have seen the Nydus Worms used.

Re: Confession time! What's the one thing you hate most about SC2?
Lack of LAN and Regional Lock... together in the same product :(
The sounds used in the game are bad.
Mothership is limited to one, and more unlikely to be seen than the Arbiter.
There's still some balance issues, units that step into each other's roles, etc.
Queen is his entire life inside the base, casting Spawn Larva. No other meaningful purpose.

I agree here. Why the hell is this a channeling ability? It's too OP to float a unit and be able to shoot at it with the same Phoenix? The ability is micro intensive already, and save for floating a Siege Tank, some spellcaster, or an Immortal, i cannot think about any other unit that is worth to disable. It also means that the cost of using Graviton Beam is suiciding a Phoenix, if there is AA there. The Corsair could at least could disable the attack from units in the targeted area, and could turn back and run away after that. Why is an AtA unit required to be sitting around enemy anti-air units just to disable one non-massive ground unit??
