Map Hacking Replay

Does anyone know how to notify Blizzard of beta accounts suspected of map hacking?

Included below is a link to a replay of a FFA game in which I seriously suspect a player of using a map hack. In the replay the zerg player moves across the map taking down everyone's expansions, but just only right after their nexus finishes (so that they cannot cancel and recover the minerals). He can be seen heading across the map directly from newly started base to to newly started base. He even gg's a player before taking down his last nexus. At one point he stops attacking to rally back at his base to intercept an incoming attack.

After the game I watched the replay after the game to see how he amassed his a huge army. I friended him and told him I suspected him of map hacking in a chat window based on his sight in the replay. His answers in chat did not match at all his actions (such as he had scouted the enemy expansions) during the game.

Since you added him on your friends list - just right click the name and report abuse

I hope Blizzard actually punishes hackers :D

Yeah unfortunately there's maphacks for Starcraft II already. I hope Blizzard bans the accounts that get caught cheating from all games. It would serve them right.

I heard about map-hacks yeah. I just don't understand why people would hack in a video game like this. It's not like they're trying to be top players by any means necessary. Hacking doesn't even improve their win ratio or anything, since despite their unfair advantage they'll be paired up against players who are as good as them, even with their hack...

Hacking ... in a beta .... ??? When your record will be deleted at the end of it and probably several times in between??? What, are these people planning on hacking forever and never getting better?

Hacking a beta is only hurting yourself for when you can no longer use that hack.

On a semi-related note, what're your takes on technically 'legal' cheats such as spying on your opponent's livestream or having a friend in Observer Mode report to you everything that's going on? Yes, it takes a sad, sad person to cheat in friendly/casual games. But then again, seeing as how there are people cheating in beta, there's little doubt this is going to happen once the game's out.

Are there any "smoking gun" ways to identify an amateur map hacker? I remember when WC3 first came out, people held down a key during replays and trailed where an enemy had viewed or selected units. I think they were able to identify map hackers if the accused hacker was able to focus his attention or unit selection within his fog of war.

Yep. There are definitely map hacks out there. I did a TvT reaper rush on metalopolis and built my rax in the very southern part of my 2:00 spawn. From his camera he repeatedly clicks to that part of the map before scouting. Later in the game he sent his entire army to my main--still having not scouted it.

Believe it or not his handle is "Hacker"

Does playing with a map hacker cause crashes?

problem with map hackers is that the really smart ones usually dont do much to make them seem suspicious. there could be way more out there using it once or twice to get an edge in a match, while others as sadly pointed in this thread use it exploitively to completely kill the opponent.

my guess is the beta is the hackers practice league too :P

luckily i've only really run into 2 map hackers (definate map hackers, as he never scouted my base, and yet he attacked right when i was vulnerable, and also found every single secret building i built, without destroying my nexus, or again scouting)

he was protoss in those matches, so no comsat of terrains....either he was extremely lucky, or he map hacked. also i checked the replay, in it, he quite distinctly stays in his base most of the game. when i was pushing him, he somehow knew to build 4 cannons to stop my attack....2 seconds before i got there :P also, he was clicking areas of the map he had not revealed since he didnt scout. these werent random clicks as he would always click where i'de be setting up expansions.

now yes, the player can be that good to go on intuition that a person could be expanding there.....once....twice maybe. but 5 times without scouting is pushing it :P

I agree. Blizz needs to adopt a zero-tolerance policy once the real game is released. If Blizz can prove someone is map-hacking, that player's right to play on Battlenet should be permanently revoked. The only way they can get back on would be to buy a new copy of SCII.

That will put a big dent in the map-hacking, I would think.

As for the spectator cheating...that's equally inappropriate and, though it would be more difficult for Blizz to prove, it should also result in sever penalties for both the person feeding the info and the one benefiting from the information. Maybe not a permanent ban...more like a one month ban.
