Why don't just give the hydra a bonus vs armored and solve all problems.
Because we don't know that would solve all problems? And we don't know how that'd affect the balance against Protoss and Terran.
What are you talking about?Quote:
Oh, right, Infestor Pit is a requirement so they put it in as a foot-note (Corruptor), or not at all (Infestor Pit), [sarcasm]brilliant, so easy to figure out.[/sarcasm]
The last news we had on the unit it required the Infestation Pit. That's not necessarily still true (in fact it looks like it isn't), but that's the last information we received. And we certainly have no basis to say it requires only the Lair.
In Batch 43 (August 2008) the corruptor required an infestation pit.
StarCraft Legacy reported the corruptor only requires a lair from BlizzCon 2008 (October 2008, so a few months later), see the link back up here: http://sclegacy.com/feature/33-bc-08...erg-unit-stats
Some people have said SCL is wrong about that though.
The fact that the Corruptor can't (directly) affect ground units means that giving it a whole building is a bad idea. Phoenixes are paired with Void Rays, and Vikings are paired with Medivacs. The Corruptor needs to be paired with some other unit in order to be worthwhile. And pairing your air unit with an anti-air unit the way SC1 did means that defending against air also gives you air attackers. The Infestor pit is preferable in this case to the Spire. That way, someone can go defensive vs. air units, while still being unable to get Mutalisks.Quote:

True. But Corruptors are a counter unit. At that time, the Terran hadn't gone for air, so there'd be no need for him to get any. Whereas a fast Hive-tech strategy was entirely possible, and could have been crushing if he'd gotten his 3rd base up to power out a couple of Ultralisks. Or fast-Regen Roaches.Quote:
it's just in the Battle Report they didn't mention Corruptors when Matt Cooper built his infestation pit, but they bothered to mention a hive.
Until Roaches get their regen upgrade Zerglings beat them in open spaces, but they beat Zerglings in closed spaces. What would happen if a Zergling/Hydra force went against them in a pass (Zerglings hold the Roaches back while the Hydras focus-fire)?
That would be only if you got a lot more Zerglings/Hydras then he got Roaches, also Roaches with Burrow are just evil units, they are probably my favorite SC2 Zerg units...And if you put few banelings they will destroy all that Zerglings... Not that Good overall...
Are banelings being factored into this 'triangle' of death? Don't they play an important role as anti-lings?
Well, let's see.
Assuming the Hydralisk has the same, or very similar stats to SC1, now that they are tier 1 again. You can get about the same number of Hydralisks as they get roaches, depending on the cost of the Roach Warren vs the Hydralisk Den.
Hydralisks do 10 damage a hit. So you need at least 10 hydralisks to kill the roaches in a single volley. Roaches do 16 damage a hit, so you need about 7 to kill a hydralisk in a single volley. But Hydralisks have double the range, are smaller (I think?) and move faster (I think?). So they have those advantages, their DPS will probably be overall higher.
It probably works similarly to Stalkers vs. Roaches. The more units involved, the better the Hydralisks perform. But Hydralisks aren't as effective a counter as Stalkers in that they aren't mechanical, they're biological... so...
Really I think when it comes down to it, a MASS all-in roach strategy is best countered by playing defensively and building spine crawlers and a queen.
Not... really, Roaches already counter lings for cost fairly effectively. Plus if they moved Hydralisks down a tier, they moved Banelings up one to compensate.
They could move Roaches up a tier and give them a small stats boost.
Nah, i like it this way and i think it is better....
Nope, Hydras are Larger then Roaches and are fast as Roaches, conclusion after BR2, also you forgot that Hydras cost Gas and Roaches dont...So for later units if you go Hydras vs Roaches, he can get some other Gas efficient units(Mutalisks) and you will probably spend too much gas on Hydras...Quote:

Is this an assumption?
Why would banelings have to be moved up tech if the Hydralisk is brought down? The baneling has a pretty solid role in early game despite the Roach being readily available. The baneling isn't exactly overlapping any specific role the Hydralisk plays tier 1.5. It is neither a roach killer, nor an anti-air unit, nor a ranged support unit. It's a mass bio unit killer. It plays a similar role to the Roach, but is much more effective offensively rather than winning through attrition.
An educated assumption, yes.
Every race has three tier 1 combat units.Quote:

And the last time they changed the hydralisk, they moved the baneling up a tier.
Well. I wouldn't say either can be judged too specifically in regards to size/speed, but I highly doubt the Roach doesn't cost gas. Or won't cost gas when the game comes out.Quote:

Roaches are Armored. Hydras are Light.
It'd get changed right back.
