Protoss 3 Hearts?
Some people claim that you could hear that Tassadar had 3 heartbeats in this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sXLHylHr1FE
In Queen of Blades, Aaron Rosenburg also talks about Tassadar's 3 hearts? What is this? Do Protoss have 3 hearts/heart-beats?

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
Sure, why not.
But that would be less efficient. Mammals and crocodilians effectively have two hearts fused together; one to pump blood to the lungs, and another to pump blood to the rest of the body. Fusing the two halves together is more efficient, since energy pumping blood to one place can help pump the other half, too.
The only advantage to having multiple hearts is if being stabbed in one doesn't kill you. (And "backup hearts" isn't necessarily a good idea, if you bleed to death out of getting stabbed in one anyway. That's actually tripling your chances of getting stabbed in the heart.)

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
So what you're saying is... space marines really shouldn't brag about having a second heart?

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
According to traditional sci-fi logic regardless of the real-world rules like what Kimera posted the more hearts the more power. Like having extra horsepower in a car, your heart beats faster in a stressful situation, if you could have three times as many hearts that's three times faster your blood would pump and your would equal three times greater an effect. I don't know if that would work at all in the real world, but it's used often in sci-fi, in Star Trek Klingons have 2 hearts and 3 lungs, and Timelord (Dr. Who) also have two hearts, they create more vigor in the individual.

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
Some species of cephalopods have multiple hearts, but I can't say whether that benefits them or not, nor how that system evolved or its purpose.

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
I dunno seems like it could just be a part of the music.

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
Oh my god that is so cool I didn't notice that before! but they are right.. that would be less efficient for a Protoss but dammit if it doesn't sound cool as hell on a video

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
You know, I never actually noticed that, but it does sound like heartbeats :p.
I'm just musing - this video was made back when Mutalisks had an acid attack instead of their Glaive Worm. I was wondering if we'd see anything like this in SC2, and already the SC2 Mutalisk's portrait is different from the one in the cinematic :p.

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
Three hearts does sound interesting. And it DOES sound like 3 beats. But one would come to wonder, depending on placement, would it really work? A tiny cut would mean there is 3x the pressure worth of blood going past the wound. A protoss hemophiliac would last long XD.
For their stature, u wouldnt think the protoss would need any more than one heart. Tall, slender, little mass. Not much room for blood or veins. But being psionically powerful with very large heads, it makes slightly more sense because that would require massive amounts of fresh blood flow.
@Roland: Normal Galifryans used to have 1 heart. The only reason Timelords(what they became after the discovery of time travel) have a 2nd heart is their Triple-Helix(used to be Double-Helix like ours) DNA they gained from the Rasalin(bio-tech/genetic engineering) that lets them regenerate(live up to 1k earth years a regen; 13 max regens), gain extra senses, and be more in-tune with spacial surroundings. No clue what the 2nd heart actually DOES for them. Help with the stress of time travel? (grew up watching that show, sry for the lessen XD)

Re: Protoss 3 Hearts?
Protoss would have a completly different physiology than us, given that they are, you know, aliens. So there is no reason why they can't have three hearts. For instance, they could have 3 entirely seperate circulatory systems. There are plenty of animals with multiple pumping organs, though they tend to be simpler animals like worms or insects.
