Re: Need some computer help!
This is the thread where you should go!
But taking a quick look at your specs your processor is probably holding you back (although not by a whole lot, really, that's a pretty good chip for the price) but for your graphics card you can simply disable your onboard nVidia card and get yourself a new ATi card that supports DX11 (not important for SC2 but important for future-proofing.)
Best choice for sub-$200 is the Radeon 5770. Over that and you can get the 5850, 5870, 5970(ouch!) but I tend to recommend the 5770...it's about $180 right now at newegg.
Here's a good one I've installed that works real well.
Re: Need some computer help!
Appreciate the help man. And yea I would def disable the onboard card or use it as a secondary but I dont think I would be able to use a 5770 because my computer doesnt support PCI Express 2.0 nor does it work with Windows 7 64 BIT(which I have) so I'm leaning towards a nVidia GT9800 but I'm not completely sure if it could handle SC2 on ultra. Know anything about it?

You can put a PCI express 2.0 graphics card on a PCI express X16 slot. If your comp is new, i am pretty sure you have a PCI express X16 slot.
9800 GT will run at high smoothly, but with ultra, it will have low frame rate during huge battles. Maybe not if u set on a low resolution.. You can definitely try tho.

Yea I just found out PCI 2.0 is backwards compatible lol, sorry for the ignorance. And yea I have PCI express x16 slot, just checked that 5 mins ago. And I'm totally fine if the 9800GT can run on all highs as long as it doesn't lag like it does now. Thanks for all the help! :)

To be honest with you, i don't see a difference between Ultra and High on SC 2, that's just me tho.
Find 9800 GT on this frame rate graph for SC 2 Ultra settings
http://www.legionhardware.com/articl...ormance,5.html
Average frame rate is 72, and lowest is 64, which is very very good (30 frame rate is normal, anything lower than 30 is laggy)
But they were using top of the line CPU / RAM etc, but still.

Yea I've noticed there's really no difference between Ultra & High too & I'm perfectly fine with 72 frame rate, better than the 22 frame rate I have now lol

this was like the most biased review I ever read... despite the fact that 4870 is alot better than the 9800GT, the fact that it outperforms the 4890 in this chart makes me wanna punch the reviewer in the nose
NO FUCKING WAY
that is completly not possible
4890 is 52% faster
Re: Need some computer help!
I must concur with spychi's assessment of that review...many of its numbers were not only suspect but did not exactly coincide with mine. I have only had limited hardware to test SC2 on, though, but still...
Re: Need some computer help!
Ok, I'm def. going to be upgrading my PSU as well and I've narrowed it down to this:
PSU:
http://www.frys.com/product/5872133?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
Video Card:
http://www.frys.com/product/5866243?...H:MAIN_RSLT_PG
can yall confirm this will work without my shit exploding? lol
