I think you focus too much in the unit name. The unit description itself paints the zealots as passionate, sometimes reckless warriors which are eager to battle. As for example, Ill could use the original demo voices. That was just perfect, in my opinion

Re: Comparison of SC2 voice over to SC1 voice over
The only difference is that they didn't put it through a synthesizer. By ANY objective measurement, SC2 voices are better in every single way in terms of tone, sound quality, inflection, stresses, (though i think the quotations are worse).
Their are only two valid argument you could possibly posit.
-The first is blizzard should make the voice suck more on purpose to fit the theme of Starcraft.
Which is dumb.
-The second is that the voices do not fit the theme of the unit.
Which is also dumb, because it implies that the fanbase has more control over the lore then blizzard itself. Even if certain voices sound different, things can change. The SC2 zealot sounds much younger and reckless, which makes sense considering that their are not many veteran zealots left due to prolonged engagement with the zerg. Most would be young.
For instance, listen to all the SC1 protoss voices. There is very little difference among them, and with the same lines, you couldn't tell which one was which without the background sounds. In all likelihood, they were all done by one or two guys put through various synthesizers.
Of course, their not all great.
In terms of lines, I really missed the Arbiter lines. They were really good
Also, the BC tone is stupid.
Finally, the old guardian and zergling styles were much better. Especially the guardian.
But overall, SC2 is the clear winner.
Re: Comparison of SC2 voice over to SC1 voice over
Sc1 Protoss voices definitely do not sound all the same. Take the dragoon, the ht, and the zealot vs immortal, ht. and zealot in sc2. The sc1 sound effects are far more distinguishable and unique. This isn't just nostalgia talking...for example the new carrier sound set is great, IMO. But u can't deny that certain sounds in sc2 do need improvement. The longevity of the game depends on it. Take the robotic unit's sounds for the Protoss, for example. Sounds like they sped up or slowed down the same few sounds for all three of them (collosus, prism, obs). Compared to shuttle, reaver, and observer in sc1, they just seem lazy. I do love the new interpretation of the probe...kept the spirit of the old unit but in higher definition.
Also many of the Zerg sound like Dustin madE baby noises into a mike and sped up the recording...the new mutas do sound better but everything else sounds unfinished and very similar. Drones probably may be as intended but everything else I feel they may still be working on. I like the critiques someone made on the Protoss sounds..those changes would help.
