I followed the development of the game every single day and I was surprised there was no Merc Compound in the beta, as I see in replays.
Has it been scrapped? Been a long time? And finally, I can't remember, what it did basically?

Tech trees are posted here, which confirms its absent from current build.

It unlocked the reaper from the barracks. It had several upgrades as well.
I love having the individual unit upgrades at the tech lab, such a better option.
But I really think the reaper should require a merc compound. Just my opinion.
I think they should save the "Merc Compound" for an expansion and make it a neutral building that you can hire groups of mercenary units from (like WC3).
It would take too much to add such a feature to SC2 at this point in its development, but I always liked the added strategic depth (and flavor) that mercenary camps added in WC3, and I think it could work as an added element of one of the SC2 expansions.
Actually, I think the better answer to the Reaper is to make some of its key characteristics ability upgrades. (ie the D8.. if that was an upgrade..possibly requiring a factory, then it would be more of a decision... do i just want to use them to hit the worker line or do I want to invest the extra to allow them to take out the Nexus too.)
Which ones are you looking at...? I see up to date tech-trees.
Meh, Terran need more tech anyway. In my humble opinion, they're way too versatile right now. More so than even the Zerg to a certain extent.Quote:
