You can watch replays without the hack.

Well, I was finally able to watch one of the replays. Don't know why certain ones work and others don't. Doesn't seem to be an issue of not having the maps since I'm using Maniac's cache and I'm not getting any "missing files" messages on the ones that don't work - just a frozen black screen forcing me to terminate the program.

I'm satisfied with my computer's ability to handle the graphics. Doesn't look great, but it's the gameplay that counts. I haven't tried watching any really big battles yet, though, so we'll see.

Guys, My client won't even open when I try to open it.
Nothing happens at all, no lag, it just doesn't open.
Whats up with it?

Is there really no music when playing replays? I only hear sound effects. I can only watch replays btw.

for some reason I'm having the same problem as Killakhan. I downloaded the client but whenever I right click and open with.. nothing happens at all.

I'm running vista and have tried running as admin too with the default opening program set to starcraft2.exe.

any ideas?


UPDATE: I figured out I was using the wrong .exe. Don't use the one in the main file because this is only the blizzard launcher. Use the .exe under support or under versions.

Now I have a different problem though, I've downloaded all the map files but its still saying that files that are not available locally are needed and must be downloaded. Perhaps I need to put the maps in a different location? I just put them inside the battle.net cache folder.. should they go inside of one of the folders in the cache folder?

Just follow the instructions in the link Operatoring put up, and download Maniac's cache file and put that in the correct place. It should work perfectly fine then.

Why can't I watch replays on Metropoilis in the new patch? I already got the map cache file from the previous patch. I could watch Metropolis replays before, why not now?

we wont be able to watch replays from newer versions of the beta - the game data & content isnt ion the map cache but rather in the patch / the game itself. even if we could patch our games too (like by temporarily logging in with a friends account) someone said they have changed it so that you need to log in to watch replays at all now.

im not exactly sure why they'd do this past some quite unnecessary & irrational principal reasoning, but im giving up hope on watching anything but stuff from the first beta build.

Dude, there's absolutely no harm in doing that. When B.NET comes to fruition with the game, players will undoubtedly be able to attach their favorite replays to their own profiles for download.

Apparently all you need to solve the problem is the post patch cache folder.

so i successfully downloaded the client, but i still cannot find starcraftbeta.exe and can only see the launcher when trying to open a replay? Can anyone explain where this file is located?

Additionally, when I tried to download and add Cache, I could not find (while using Windows 7) any folder for AppData or LocalSettings after reaching my UserName through C:

It can work I think.. theres a file called "SC2Switcher.exe" which changes you to the old patch, so open the replay with that file and it should work.

Works fine with both new patches.
Just load up the SC2 replay as per normal and the correct SC2 build will be used (switched to) depending on which replay you load.

Hmmm.... Well I'm almost tempted to DL it. So is it essentially the full game, just you don't have a beta key to access the majority of the features?

nah, to me it ask me to log in in order to watch the replays even with the sc2switcher

I imagine (though I haven't checked yet) that if you use the solution which allows you to "play as guest" in the beta client, then you can watch replays with no problems even with the new patches.

Operatoring provided a link to this solution a few pages back, I believe.

i cant get it to work either, need to log in, even after replacing the cache.. hopefully were just doing soemthing wrong. has anyone without beta gotten reps to work when patched?

Would love to know official standpoint, what is legal and what is not.. If watching replays or playing in off-line mode is legal even if you are not in beta..

I don't want to loose chance to get into beta :P

SpikeVorador, my cache is not necessary to watch replays.. you just have to manually put maps into your cache how was described earlier in this thread..

^ cache also contains other files besides .s2mas

To exemplify, I downloaded the required map (lost temple) and properly created it's folder within the /cache directory... the replay failed (temp error); I downloaded someone else's entire cache folder (which included the map I previously had (same file name/file size) alongside a dozen other files (.s2mv; .s2ml; .agre, etc)... the replay worked.

In other words... an updated cache file would be appreciated (I'm having problems with post-patch replays). :)

Anybody having "temp files missing" issues with the new patch should download this and replace their cache folder with it. You'll have no further problems of that sort.

i have try with that cache and i still get the temp message with replays pre-patch and post-patch

Hrm. That's strange; I've had no problems.

Try reinstalling the beta client.

I also don't have any issues with the one tuna posted earlier.

Sorry, but where do the maps go? I press on a replay and it says unable to find map :P
