Re: Next wave speculation?
Answer to first question - about 2,500 to 3,000 people are playing/have access. I think about 2,500 people are typically playing at any given time (excluding absurd hours in U.S. like 2:00 - 6:00 a.m.)
The number of people playing at any given time is definitely going to decrease over the next few weeks.
Many of the beta players have been playing non-stop since they received access; however, most of them presumably have jobs, school, wives, families, hunger, sleep deprivation, etc.... Those things will eventually kick back in and reduce the number of players at any given time.
Plus, some of the keyholders that did not play SC1 may become discouraged or simply dislike the game, so more will stop playing due to things of that nature.
My guess is next wave will happen in about a week
Re: Next wave speculation?
there were around 500 ppl playing the first night, 2500 last night, so it figures wow players have started to check their battlenet accounts. we can expect it to go up to 3k soon. now it all depends on weather or not wow players find it interesting to build pylons with gas or not .. i next wave will have only event keys faaar less opt-ins and nothing before monday atleast.
Re: Next wave speculation?
I hope we get another wave before the weekend hits.

Highly doubtful, blizzard doesnt like to give stuff out on fridays since they cant really be there for support until monday (unless they are working overtime for the beta).

They have released Betas on the weekend. If they do that I see no problems with them releasing some more invites.
Will it happen? No, they already said that it will be a couple weeks before more go out.

Have they? Which betas? The closest release to a weekend I have seen has been thursday, though I may be wrong (and I would honestly be glad that I am, since that would give me hope if I dont get in future waves)

A few Blizzard betas have gone out on a Sunday if I'm not mistaken (WotLK maybe?)... but unless you have a key, I'm pretty sure the next wave will be directed towards remaining key-holders only, and it probably won't happen until Monday at the earliest.
They're going to want to monitor this first wave for a few days at least before they just invite a few more thousand players.

Nope, wotlk beta was a thursday. There is no doubt that there will be a chunk of time between this wave and the next though. The number of people that get in probably depends on how many people either
1) Dont use their beta invite from this wave
2) Stop playing the beta after a few days
The rest of the blizzcon people will probably have priority, but I expect there will be a sizable chunk of people that didnt attend blizzcon that get in.
Also, keep in mind that fansites probably still have some to give away too so keep an eye out for contests and the like.
Re: Next wave speculation?
I hope they stop giving keys to the press and start giving keys to real starcraft fans who can really help out in polishing the game.
My only option atm is wait for keys via facebook or twitter or even worse I will just have to wait for the game itself to come out.

Press is fairly important for the game too, how else do the other millions of sc fans that cant get into the beta get information?

yeah dude!
how else ud know that u need pylon to build a building, doh.
Re: Next wave speculation?
im glad he said
WITHIN 2 weeks
aka...probably next week and/or the week after
i expect them to start rushing the opt-ins in, it seems like this will turn into a quasi-open beta. I mean, blizzard wants thousands and thousands of people to test this...honestly 2500 and most of those WoW players who are getting into the game can only provide so much feedback.
So...within 2 weeks i.e. more waves possibly every week, opt-ins PREPARE THE SACRIFICIAL LAMBS WE GOING GOD OF WAR STYLE BIZATCHES
Re: Next wave speculation?
I disagree with those that think there won't be many opt ins the next round. It seems to me that the majority of the blizzcon, twitter, etc invites went out. My wild speculative guess is that there's only 30% left to bring in. So if the next wave is just as big as the last there will probably be quite a few more opt ins.
But really like the post said it all depends on how much load is on their servers. So is 2-3k all they want, or are they going to have to invite a lot more than that to get the job done?

Re: Next wave speculation?
I think each wave will be a blend of contest winners, blizzcon attendees and opt-ins. At least for the the next two or three waves.
I do think they will favor contest winners, high ladder players, and blizzcon attendees over the opt-ins though for the next wave or two. Once all of those have been sent out, I think you will start seeing waves that are primarily made up of opt-ins.
Honestly, that would be the fairest way to handle this. Especially with regard to winners of the ladders, comic contests and the like. Those people really "earned" their access to the beta.

15k ppl (from 20k total) registered blizzcon keys, lets say there are 1k ppl for wwi also. there are 2500 ppl on beta. now plz tell me, and no pun intended here, how do u figure there are 30% left in total?

Yeah, but that's only at any given time. The total number of invites is certainly much higher than that. If we took a high estimate of 20k invites were sent out that that would mean that 12% of the participants are playing at any given time. Seems reasonable to me. Plus who's to say how many of those were opt ins? Some are saying there were only 500 opt ins which still leaves plenty of room for the majority of the blizzcon people to be in.
However, my estimate that more than half of the invites have been sent out has far more to do with anecdotal evidence than anything. It just seems to me that the majority of them got in from everyone's reports.
