Blizzard aiming for release in June?
I hear the game's slated to release in June. (if no major issues arise with the beta) My source is very trustworthy and reliable. =)
And Cataclysm should release somewhere between July and November of this year. (Second half of 2010)
This would mean the beta won't last more than 3-4 months! (Which is odd because Blizzard game betas usually last 5-6 months...)
EDIT: Didn't the WoW:WotLK beta last 3-4 months?

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
The game is pretty much polished. A few bug fixes and optimizations and a few tweaks...it should be fine.
This is only a RTS, not a MMORPG. They have also delayed it a year to polish it up. They said so themselves they're aiming for a June release. Traditional Blizzard RTS release time :D (june/july) .
I think they don't want StarCraft 2 to overloom Activision Blizzard's other releases in the fall. Also this game has a massive following. They don't really need to worry about a "Holiday release" .

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
It will come out when it comes out. Truthfully, after watching some of the streams, the game still needs alot of work.
The Zerg voice for the adjutant needs to go bye bye...
The need to balance things so it is not so rock, paper, scissor.
They are having issues with memory leaks and processor compatibility, which for me, is bad considering I am UGing to an i7 just to play this game.
There are alot of builds and units right now that just are not working due to some pretty nasty imbalances. Do not be surprised if you see units removed entirely and/or new units added during the beta to supplement the holes that are left.
Anyway this speculation doesn't seem to really be contributing a lot to the community. Blizzard already said Q2 and even with a slight delay, it will be worth it. Enjoy the beta / streaming.

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
I dont think it'll make June. As others have stated, SCII has to be balanced from the get-go not 4 versions/patches down the road. I'm thinking its going to be one long Beta. Which is fine with me

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
To be the optimist in the group I would point out that how long the beta lasts will hinge greatly on how many people participate and IF they do their jobs correctly. If the pool grows large quickly they will have lots of data to sift through and the beta period won't have to be so long. We'll have to see :)

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
June would be great, but I think it will drift in to July. That's great though, if you really think about it. A lot of people are off from school/college...or take vacation time away from work in mid summer. I'm personally going to take a day or two off from work to really appreciate this game.

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
june/july does make sense and sounds legit...but then again they already told us that
Cata is expect November like all the other WoW's...they dont release WoW for the holiday sales...its just there. With WoW you can release it whenever the hell you want all of us addicts will lick the floors for a copy.
Blizzard has zombies as a fanbase

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
Ooooh wow. I have to say the entire old world getting redone does sing a sirens song to me. But I just know it's the same game in the end, and I had a great, great time playing it, but that time has passed.

It took 3 years (patch 1.08) and an expansion to balance SC 1. Undoubtedly, there will be balance changes for the next couple years, especially after the release of each expansion.
I'm guessing SC 2 will go gold in the Aug/Sept time frame.

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
Keep in mind that not only does the game need to be balanced and patched up tight it also has to be printed, pressed and shipped and you know made into a actual product, not exactly a overnight thing

I am expecting it to hit around June, it may release a touch earlier than that though depending on how smoothly the beta goes. Cataclysm wont be released until November (they are releasing one more content patch before the Cataclysm patch), so that is pretty much no competition there. The WotLK beta did last around 4 months or so, but thats a different story altogether since it is an expansion of an existing game.
The Warcraft 3 beta lasted 4-4.5 months (come to think of it, war3 beta started about this time of year and was released july 3rd, may be a good indicator)

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
I'm expecting a June/July release since by then a reasonable amount of time will have been devoted to the beta with participants numbering in the thousands (if not already, even more). The more participants and the more time devoted (It is Feb after all) will speed up the process. Its either summer or next year...they wont have this release so close to the WoW expansion.

Blizzard betas never last more than 6 months. It'll be out this year.

Yep. June/July is my wager. Cheers!

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
I'll stick with my september/october release assumption, then i can be pleasantly surprised if it really is out in june.

Oh buddy, you weren't there for WoW's beta? Were you!? :D
Blizzard will handle SC2's release like Nintendo handled Smash Bros. Make no mistake about it. June will be the earliest release possible.
Now that B-net 2 has its legs, they will feel free to delay release as long as possible to polish Single Player and try to make MP release-worthy balance-wise.

World of Warcraft beta (for the original) was 9+ months, SC2 will be out this year though.

Heh. They better not shove SCII into next year in favor of a WoW game. Fans would go ape over that. They should push WoW into next year and deliver SCII whenever they can this year.

I'm hoping for a June release. If not, HulkSmash!

August / Sept I'm thinking really - I know the original SC took years to balance, but it also didn't have the e-sports pressure that it does today - I think it'll be a record long beta
-
Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
SC 1 beta lasted about 5 months, before going gold. I didn't get in that beta either. >_<
-
Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
SC1 beta isn't a good gauge since they didn't have the resources they do now.

Nothing's a good gauge, beyond what Blizzard have said themselves: a mid-2010 release.
This isn't SC1, or WoW, or WCIII - this is the sequel to the single greatest RTS of all time. Now that might imply a longer beta, but the game has been development for a crazy amount of time already. It all depends on how the testing and balancing progresses.
-
Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
agreeing with previous poster.
also consider the tools they have to work with and to even observe balance; bnet2 + awesome replay functionality should help alot.

Amen if it comes to it. :D

Re: Blizzard aiming for release in June?
For the time being I don't think anything trumps WoW from a business perspective. Everytime Blizzard releases an expansion millions of current players buy a piece of software at 39.99 and pledge at least 12.99 per month for the foreseeable future. Hundreds of thousands of inactive players return and begin funneling that same 12.99 to blizzard for at least a few months.
As exciting and popular as Starcraft is it's not going to measure up to WoW right now in terms of profits generated. It's a one shot sale and then an expensive server to upkeep and allow us to play on for free. If someone gave Blizzard the ultimatum to release one or the other this year we'd be SOL.
This is all a moot point anyway, I think it'll all go without a hitch.
