Re: StarCraft II Artwork Thread
I like that picture a lot, in part because it's just a really solid digital painting. Everything about the hair braids is just really cool to look at.
On an interesting note, I found this 3D-printable fan-made Viking model, that apparently can really be transformed, without any cheating, and looks good in both forms. I'm very impressed.

I never worked out a way for Blizzard's to actually transform, and I'm fairly certain that they cheated by clipping and scaling parts of the models into each other for the HotS intro transformation, just because it would be a lot more work for them to come up with a design that really worked. They conformed to their high-detail walker model from Wings of Liberty, which seems to have impossibly tiny folded up wings on its back (here they are on the cinematic version).

When people tried to rearrange the pieces of that model to get a fighter mode Viking, it ends up with really tiny stubby wings (and they had to cheat by collapsing the guns in on themselves), and it just doesn't look that great. And with the gatling guns being bigger than the wings, I don't think it ever will.

But you can see this guy got a much better looking fighter mode with larger wings on the back of the assault mode, and it ends up looking really good.

I still can't figure out where the gatling guns go (and it looks like he still has them telescoping), but I'm glad a good-looking transforming version of this design is actually doable. and clipping the legs through the body completely)

Check out this video someone on reddit posted— some great Starcraft Ghost footage from 2007.

Those dragoon animations look really janky... I'm just gonna pretend I never saw them galluping like that.
There's some concept art in there that I haven't seen anywhere else, including a hydralisk den and some Stinger orthos.

...I think I just found my new sewing project.
Well, or I would have if I weren't such a sewing noob.

Quick Phoenix cockpit sketch. A scene where a Protoss steps back into a dormant landed phoenix, and it assembles itself around him as it levitates into the air and then zooms off would be very cool. Make it happen, Blizzard!

That's one helluva concept. I second thy decree, Lord Robear!

I remember that model. The detailing is really great, especially around the engine.
Here's a quick mockup of the Brood War dragoon sprite design I made today:

That's a great model. Are you making it for school, or just for fun?

Well, here's the secret— I actually made it to get ideas for this little side project:
A little while ago, Xiphias, one of the devs of Starbow, asked for my help redesigning their dragoon model. So, after making that Brood War-style mockup, the design in the middle here is what I came up with. And GhostNova91, who does a ton of SC2 custom models, made an in-game version of it!

It'll be fun to see one of my redesigns in actual gameplay videos. And I like the look of it a lot better than the dragoon in the LotV campaign... (uh, obviously... because I made it...)

Your model is way gorgeous. I'm a bit surprised Blizzard's version is so ugly, actually.

It looks like a swiss army knife. I mean, I like, but is there a story behind this?

It's one of the unique mercenary units you can hire in WoL. Is that riveting enough of a story?

Re: StarCraft II Artwork Thread
i prefer lotv mdodel, your model of dragoon is incredible, but it doesn't has the same soft lines of the CGI Dragoon of SC1 (your is clearly based on the immortal, so is 0% soft lines), that in fact the LotV Dragoon has... You silly Robear :D

Plus holding their rifles completely blocks the lights on their chests, which don't face the way they shoot anyway. :P
Incidentally, the medic design for HotS has smaller armor, so she actually can see over her own shoulders.

I like her. Her plotline is janky, but she's at least funny and not dressed terribly.

Re: StarCraft II Artwork Thread
So does anyone know anything about this artwork in the HotS Art Book? It's clearly something Protoss-y or Xel'Naga-y. Maybe a speculative exploration into Narud's true form?
