I have to agree here. Typical ''Lamewise Didier warcraft influence''.

If you showed this to me 10 years ago and asked me if it belonged in StarCraft, I'd have laughed in your face: http://i.imgur.com/qRh6g2uh.jpg
You invented the piano key necktie?

I'm still laughing, as he would fit perfectly in WoW.
Wrong Mugatu.

It's a giant goddamn dinosaur. Ridiculous.
In the second Zerus mission they even have a dude called "Tyrannasaur", which was the name of one of my toys when I was 5 years old.
One of my favorite movies of all time btw.
And you are no George Carlin.Quote:
Shakuras isn't Africa, and the Dark Templar aren't Zulu.
Yet here are, again, and again.
Woah, woah, woah, SC1 was not as... exalted? as you're making it out to be. Yeah, Tyrannosaurs are dinosaurs, and there was an enemy in HotS called a "tyrannozoar" or something. The Tyrant prefix isn't so implausible.
Remember the Kakuru? There is a kind of dinosaur called Kakuru. And the Kakuru in the game was literally just a purple pterodactyl.

Nothing wrong with space dinosaurs. The bengalaas is literally just a half-colored panther, and the name is just a space version of a Bengal Tiger. "Rhynadon" is basically the Pokémon "Rhydon."

Tyrannozoar is no worse.
That show a lack of creativity in their critters, not a misunderstanding of what the Zerg or StarCraft is :D I also felt that part of the game was out of place.
Blizzard games have been known for the overwhelming amount of easter eggs inside them. Rather than lack of creativity I'd say their employees are allowed to show something of their favorite stuff in-game.
I can't wait for this guy's cosplay of a marine:

I know, that's why you didn't see me complain when they added more dinosaur critters in WoL, like the Gastornis (aka. sandwich_bird): http://www.peterminister.com/images/Diatryma.jpg
Zurvan was overkill though. I'm sorry, the entire concept feels childish and out of place to me.
That's... magnificent. :D
Skyrim and StarCraft belong together like PB&J.

Couple of new Mr. Jack pieces: a reinterpretation of the original Campaign trio and an excellent HotS Kerrigan/zergling/baneling/hydralisk/ultralisk painting. Love the lighting on that one.

The SC trio is f*cking badass dude. I may have my nostalgia goggles on, but you cannot beat them.
Confederate Marine. SC1 hydralisk. Old-school Zealot. Shit yeah.
That old school art style... So muchhhh better than what we have now.
While his interpretation is neat, I've gotta say:

The fast and loose proportions are my only problem with it— the marine's collar being the worst offender. Still love it, though.

That Zerg picture is cool.
What's the problem with Zurvan? Primal zergs should be different from Swam zergs. They did not have access to much of the DNA and features the Swarm zergs use, like space-faring adaptations.
Zerg visual identity has influence of insects, Giger Aliens, 50's sci fi aliens, and also dinosaurs. Just check SC1 lings (the sprite), they're more dinosaurs than anything else. Specifically, velociraptors.
Anything Samwise does nowadays looks like everything else he does, unfortunately. I mean, Stalkers, anyone? So I agree they should make a bigger effort to differentiate the IPs, and maybe using different artists would be enough; but the "dinosaurness" of Zurvan isn't the problem with him, at all. This is an objective fact, and anyone who disagrees with me is trolling or a lunatic.
Btw, Abathur doesn't look like nothing else Samwise has drawn so far. It was a nice surprise because I was already convinced he's a repetitive artist.
I was about to say that I'm sort of worried about the homogenization of the artwork produced by Blizzard. The Hybrid Destroyer is clearly derived from Diablo, who in turn was influenced by the StarCraft II Hydralisk, while the Hybrid Reaver was clearly influenced by the Archangels of Diablo.
That said, that's only two small similarities. There's nothing wrong with cross-pollination of ideas and concepts like that. I can't say Abathur's worm-cloaca body is necessarily refreshing in design, but it is very appropriate for a Zerg. I can't say the Primal Zerg reminded me of dinosaurs so much as the Naga forces from WarCraft III.
I think Blizzard just needs a greater infusion of new, younger artists like Lucas Mancini (Mr. Jack).
Also, Velociraptors looked more like turkeys, so I can't compare them to Zerglings. There is a sort of primal, ancient element to the Zergling, however, so I can agree with you there Tche. :)
I'm gonna assume he was inspired by the worm alien from the fucking horrible Dreamcatcher movie.

I got more of a Half Life vibe from Abathur:

I just wanted to bring this to y'alls attention: Apparently you can earn a portrait featuring the original Zealot, Marine or Hydralisk from StarCraft vanilla. Details can be found here, as well as Mr -- Jack's own interpretation of the classic three!
Here's a little something more for all the artists here: Luke Mancini, aka Mr Jack, created a wallpaper at the Melbourne, Australia event for the HotS release. This was a return home, as he attended university here while studying art. An extensive Q&A with the artist is included.
There's also an article dedicated to Jack's rise to his current popularity, from lowly fan to Blizzard employee. Check it out.
VoK, I'd already posted both of the images you've linked on the previous page. :P The article's cool, though. Didn't know he was Australian, moving to the US for a Blizzard job is super cool.
I just found this amazing picture of a model of the old-school Zealot, one that I'd never seen before:
http://www.starcraft-overmind.ic.cz/...del_zealot.jpg
It looks so... good! Especially compared to the official Zealot action figure, which looked so ABYSMALLY bad...
http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2638/3...9887170733.jpg (holy shit this one is a goddamn trainwreck)
I wonder if it was a prototype for a 1/30th scale model kit, to go with the marine and hydralisk? I wish I could find more pictures of it. :/
^ Man, that Zealot model is awesome. Where'd you get the picture? I'm sure a lot of people would like to get there hands on such a model kit if it indeed exists.
LOL at the contrast! The official one has no sense of appropriate proportions and is clearly nothing more than to be a mass-produced toy to be thrown around.
I found a picture of it on this Czech web page. It's listed with the Marine and Hydra model kits, but, while there are plenty of images of those floating around (and you can still find them on ebay or whatever), I'd never even heard of a matching Zealot. But, there it is.
Let me know if you find any more photos of it!
WTF I want those.
Mr. Jack releases his Queen and Guardian!

Not a huge fan of the Queen, but the Guardian looks phenomenal, imo. The legs are absolutely perfect.
Phil Gonzo converted them into 3D models, and I agree that the queen actually looks very silly. Phil did a little tinkering with it though to make it look more intimidating. Even so, Jack's is a faithful reproduction from the StarCraft I days.

That Queen is the Jar Jar Binks of the StarCraft universe, but I still liked the artwork. Guardian wins by far though.
This wallpaper made me wonder:
