cstudabaker Blizzard email this morning says SC2 beta is "fast approaching"! Can't wait! #starcraft2 @StarCraft

Anyone else see the email?
And who is this and why should would pay attention to what he has to say?
Well, whoever it was has one of two intentions. First, he could have mentioned this to Blizzard tweets to get some attention for themselves as they know the world is watching #starcraft...
Or, it's a legit email, and he's too excited to contain it.
I will admit though, I think I've heard the line regarding an email saying "Fast approaching" on another website, I just can't think of it at this moment.
And "Fast approaching" means what in Blizzard? -.- 6 months maybe??? yaaaay!!
What matters more... is that if this is true, an email was sent out. This is one of the key facets that Blizzard has been hinging on for the last two years.
"When beta gets closer, we'll communicate with you".
And then i ask: If a beta is close in blizzard how close is close?? 6months????? yaaaay!!!!
This likely came from the latest Blizzard Inside email which surfaced this morning. Taken verbatim:
Quote:
W ith the StarCraft II beta test fast approaching, the StarCraft II: Wings of Liberty website has recently been reforged and reloaded with new info on the features we've unveiled since BlizzCon 2009. Head over to the newly revamped website and check out the newest single player missions, multiplayer details, heroic characters and Battle Reports for Wings of Liberty, the first epic chapter in the upcoming StarCraft II trilogy.
"Fast approaching" sounds an awful like like "in the final stretch" so I'm not about to get my hopes up. Either they release it in the next week or they announce another delay and I give up all hope on the game.
People shouldn't look into this to much considering the beta has been fast approaching for a year now.
Also, i'm sure the beta is soon, just not in the next few days like everyone thinks it may be.
It's either going to come out of nowhere real fast...or take its sweet time.
Either way, no beta still right now
Thanks for sharing that Blazur.. that's a good call and explains this fully.
@Syndarm: While it's good advice to not look into it (which I agree with fully) it's also good to try and find the origin of random chatter in the community to see how legit or incorrect it is. In this case, it was rather good as Blazur was able to find/produce the origin.
The only thing I think we all can do it look forward to this friday (to a potentially chuckle-worthy SC2beta skit) and February 10th to see if they say anything regarding updates on SC2 at all. To be sincere, I would really be happy to hear "on schedule" but even if they say it's delayed, at least it's new information...whether we like it or not.
this "beta" just seems like it's at a halt...
Like there is no information about it... they refuse to share any information ...Cavez and Sigaty are MIA from community relations... no BNET2.0 updates..
It just feels like this game is on hold again, much like how it felt in June
"No news, is good news". The game is probably not on halt, the game is ready just waiting a good date to be released or still waiting for a stable B.NET2.0
So how can we interpret the fact that no community manager gives no release date?! Well think about this, if they say "It's delayed" it will cause a riot. If they say it's will be release at X date, then people won't be under the surprise effect and it forces Blizzard to release it as they said...
So stop trying to shoot hypothesis, just wait for it. If the game is launched in 2010 then the beta is yeah "soon", if not... just forget about it and... try not to cry.
Blizzard has always been a "it's ready when it's ready" company. They've made MULTIPLE mistakes straying from that throughout StarCraft 2's public lifetime. I find it more reassuring to know they aren't telling us a date yet... as odd as that sounds. It means they're holding true to the path that works best for them instead of trying to wrongly appease the public.
Ultimate though, Bashiok said it best, it doesn't matter what they say... we won't be appeased as a public mob until the game is released. Nothing else, no matter how valuable, will be enough at this point.
i couldnt disagree with u more. treating his quote as something good is idiotic. basicly saying, giving us nothing is better than something. then why give us lame q/a , tree models, and endless macro debate. maybe say, beta will or will not start in a month so u dont have the need to stop by out twitter every second day so see the news, just come back in a month. no no no, dont give us proper news about the only thing we want to hear now and that is beta date, not beta, but beta date.
their cms suck, and am not ranting and trolling, but they honestly suck. maybe take a peak at sean at swtor official forums. there, ppl actually learn from their mistakes. like only few days ago, he said dont expect any major news for next 2 weeks. and after that ull know it will be something good, and in that time ull still get update every single friday at the same time. and like they said game is atleast 1.5 years away, not letting ppl quessing for months and months hoping it will be this year. and here i still remember chris and that lore guy in the interview almost 1 year ago to the date, saying we hope to bring sc2 to the players this year.
ppl at swtor forums are worried at what will 1.5years do to the hype for the gome(nothing imo), but i hope sc2 sales suck. i will buy the game, all three, and i will always buy blizz games, but i hope they have like 5mil total sales so they fucking learn how to properly do things. i just LOVE how mass effect 2 was announced 8 months ago and its becoming the best selling game in the history of ever:)
sry for the long post, i just had this in me since i almost didnt go with my hot gf on vocation last summer hoping i would miss beta start. good thing she doesnt know am such a nerd.
Anyone notice how that client download page on the support site was deleted? Fucking lame.
First, I feel it's disrespectful to outright call my opinion idiotic. I find parts of your opinion disagreeable but I won't outright judge them.
The reason why I said it's a good point is not because it's "right" or "great" but because in many ways it's become essentially correct. While a great amount of people can learn to be patient, the ultimate point is that the mob as a whole won't be able to be satisfied with what they can be told. Ultimately, today we were told something interesting regarding the Nullifier is now called the Sentry. This information will be great and held onto for about 1 to 2 days maximum, and it will be back to "alright, that was a nice time killer, where's beta?". If they say "beta will be at this date", no matter how many people will be happy, others won't be happy and will claim that it'll just be delayed like last time.
There's a plethora of people who are passionate about the game on these forums but have been eaten with pessimism and worries that a delay is around the corner, no matter how much good news slaps them in the face. Am I part of this crowd? No, is everyone like that? No.
Ultimately, whether it's good or not that it's gotten to this level is not my point or conversation, it's just that Bashiok, no matter how much you disagree with, said the most accurate PR examination possible at this point. The only way to make the entire StarCraft community as a whole happy is to take the next step, instead of merely talk about it. That's all I intended to say.
NOW.. let's get to your conversation...
I suspect this is where I would use the term "idiotic" if I were to mimic your post. For a person who wants to enjoy all three games, the last thing you'll want to wish for is a low sale count. Blizzard is a company, not a human being... the lesson learned would be "this IP won't make money, we should look to other avenues"... human beings would view it as "I'm sorry".
It's my opinion that is an emotionally spiteful response which ironically proves my suggestion that Bashiok is right even more. A person with the mentality which your posts suggest will only be happier if they SEE progress, not just read it.
Regarding how you feel the CMs at Blizzard are low quality:
Every method is different... I'd say that of all the times we'd have to complain about the mods at Blizzard, now is not it. They've been churning out almost 3-4 times the amount of information they've provided in the past. Just last week they had a day which involved 14 blue responses. You may hold onto the history as a whole, but I'd rather live in the present. They're ramping up their staff and the community's expectations of them. Blizzard has a pattern of when they do this as well. Another reason to be optomistic.
Gotta admit though, most fans probably don't even know about stuff like the system reqs or the beta client download pages outside of SC2 fansites. Yet it's the hardcore who complain about 'misinformation' when they're actively looking for every nugget of info they can.
It's like sticking your hand over a flame and blaming the candle for getting burnt.
good point. but u gotta admit, it goes further than that. it would be maybe better to say," kid blames nestle for having bad teeth", or something like that. u know kid loves candy :)
and second, gifted, ye sry for calling your opinion idiotic. if i feel something is idiotic, it doesnt mean your idiot or moron or something else, just poor word selection on my side. i dont think your an idiot, and i like u, and am sry again if i offended:) hope no hard feelings ..
I think what's "idiotic" is calling the game design philosophy of one company "the wrong way". The design philosophy of Blizzard has made them the most successful American video game company in history. I love BioWare, and I love Mass Effect 2, but Blizzard makes more money in a month than they will this year. And yes, that's what it comes down to for a corporation in a capitalist country: making money.
I would also like to point out that I love Mass Effect 2, I've beaten it twice, but I also understand that it's a completely different ball game than StarCraft 2.
We're talking about a single player action-rpg game here, maybe 30 hours (maximum)worth of gameplay for a playthrough, versus an RTS with dozens of units that have to be balanced, while meeting the expectations of the entire world to match what's considered the crown jewel of strategy gaming, with full multiplayer and years of longevity to consider. BioWare made a game that people will globally be done with in a year, unless they are late to the party or going back for nostalgia. Blizzard is responsible for creating a title that will be constantly and prominantly played by everyone for at least 5 years; if they don't, it will be considered a "failure".
Um, the closest Blizzard got to "everyone" was WoW. And I'm fairly sure that there are more than 12 million gamers in the world.Quote:

It's all good, sometimes it takes a small comment to help bring out the intended message. I took no offense but think you appreciated the little point out :) I think we're respecting each other equally here, even if the words were oddly chosen.
Sarcasm has a time and place, for some reason I don't know if now was the time... but I do like the idea of 6 billion people playing StarCraft...
I'd be sad if Grammy won my division...
mmm who knows... ¿how many gamers exist in the world?
¿how many gamers plays WoW?
¿how many StarCraft 2 copys blizzard expects to seel?
Lets start a petition to get SC2 integrated into the educational system, starting at Kindergarten. We should reach 6 billion gamers by 2136.
It could be like the new Oregon trail!
We all played that in school right ><
That game was pure awesome. You just gave me a great idea for a UMS. Thanks!
A little piece of news is good news. While I still hold the opinion that the blizzard PR team made some serious mistakes with this game...who doesn't make mistakes? Let's give 'em a break and hope something good happens sooner than "soon™"
Just wanted to let people know this Friday's Jace Hall skit is related to D3 again, not SC2 (or at least I'm fairly certain)
btw Blazur, where is a link to the recent Blizzard insider? on the main website the last edition is still from March 2009
copy+paste it if you could please
I don't know. Looking at the previous newsletters, they are required to make mention of starcraft 2, and its usually mentions of units and useless filler crap. Here, all they are doing is pointing out the starcraft 2 website which is particularly worthless, the only thing to note is the mention of beta fast approaching. Would they just throw that phrase out there like that? I would THINK they would be careful about saying stuff like that but then again, fast approaching is just as vague as soon and they have no trouble using that word. I'm inclined to say its filler but heres to hoping it comes in the next week.
Time to find out if Blizzard has publicly ever used the word's "Fast approaching" before. And what does it REALLY mean.
Means nothing, just like
Quote:
final stretch
this summer
soon
very soon
not even quarters away at this point
this year
next year
fast approaching
