Ugh, this game is junk. Not impressed with it whatsoever. The controls are floppy and imprecise, and the aliens and predators have one-hit kills take much of the fun out of the game.
them's strong words for only having the game an hour
did you play AvP 2? I think the one hit kills are in there too, and I still loved it.
Alright so far I got some things to say about this game -
- Combat
1. Each race dose feel different
2. The guns handle decently, as do the melee attacks ( though preds take some getting used too)
- Interface
1. Not very much to speak of, looks like they were going with least amount of shit possible - it could use some improvements but there really isnt much information I care about besides the motion sensor which is done well. For some reason I have problems switching guns o.0 not sure if its just me being retarded or not
- Balance
1. It looks like you can grab with pred and I think alien from behind, and maybe from the side at about melee distance - maybe a bit more but so far humans have been dominating the games
2. The grab kills the person as long as you complete the lunge portion of it, and its a pretty long animation with leaves the person doing the grab completely open to be killed - which means more than likely its not how you want to end most encounters - It doesn't bother me though since almost every game I play lately has a instant melee kill from any angle, at least this one leaves them open
3. For the human it seems like the extra guns are more utility than upgrades, the starting gun is your best friend. ( which is a good thing I think)
- Graphics
1. There pretty decent, not to best Ive seen but not the worst either
2. Its dark as hell but I think you can fix that in brightness settings.
Matchmaking is freaking horrible as it takes 10+ minutes to get a game if your lucky.
I think it'll be a pretty decent game as long as they fix the matchmaking- and I think the other modes will be much more fun than deathmatch which gets a bit annoying since its FFA and your always dying from behind.
Not sure if its a 100% buy but - its certainly something id consider
I'll update after I play more games, perhaps my views will change
If they fix some of the control issues with the Alien this game will be gold.
Melee is auto-aim and seems to reach from a great distance. When you get in close proximity to an enemy, just spam melee and you'll auto-target your enemy and pummel them into submission.
The coolest part about the game was the alien movement. But the combat seemed boring and movement was VERY sluggish (frustratingly, I might add).
Melee was a bit sluggish but if you get the combos worked out it can move pretty swiftly.
So far I'm enjoying it! Even though the fragginess of deathmatch is a bit of an irritation, not to mention the game has little buggy quirks here and there. Definitly getting a Splinter Cell vibe from the whole thing, all those memories of killing those alien-like spies flooding in.
What's Hot?
Destructible lights (Yay GoldenEye/Perfect Dark!), and killing things as the characters feel good.
What's Not?
The game needs some further refinement, things like twice the camera smoothing factor for transitioning on walls, icons overtop of the Marine weapon pick-ups to signify what the thing is, better explanation on the melee system, etc.
Overall I can't wait for the full version! Hopefully with proper LAN support, Dedicated servers, and additional gameplay options. If the game supports modding to any degree, it should enjoy a lengthy life.
Regarding the absurd matchmaking time on the PC demo, Rebellion has this to say:
I did notice that you get into matches much quicker after inviting friends in a group (although several times only half our group would enter with us!).Quote:
We've identified an issue with the matchmaking system that is causing the very long wait times to get into a PC game, and hope to release an update shortly which addresses this.
In the meantime players can ease connection issues by getting together with a group of players before entering matchmaking. Inviting friends or joining players via the Steam overlay will help work around the issue. If you need help finding players you can join one of the community groups, e.g. http://steamcommunity.com/groups/AVPI.
In addition to the matchmaking functionality the full game features dedicated servers, server browsers, and the ability to host games directly.
I do believe the Aliens need a button to drop off any surface to the ground again, that would alleviate much frustration for me.
I think multiplayer will be much much better once the other maps and game modes are available and I am also excited for single player.
