Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award

I am not entirely sure it deserved the award, but I have to admit that ever since the "final stretch" was declared my impatience grows while two release dates for the beta (summer 09 / late 09) passed with no beta in sight.

Re: Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award
I remember when Blizz was saying how they waited till the game was near release as part of a new strategy of not announcing games to far away from release. (They were working on the game for an unusual amount of years before they announced it, remember?) I guess this never materialized or gave them an excuse to keep in development longer.
And I do have to say, in my long history as a gamer, the wait for this game has been the longest and most frustrating-- even more than HL2 lol
Re: Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award
LMFAO. Blizzard sucks these days, and is easily outshined by several other game developers actively producing innovative games that are fun and require no subscription to play.
Yep...I said it.

Ya know...sometimes I wish I could grant "insolence" infractions for opinions I disagree with... today I'll just slyly joke about it as I'm sure Blazur knows where I'm coming from.
Re: Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award
The hype and the constantly renewed assumption that it's to be out next month are to blame (not that I'm not guilty of espousing such opinions, but then what can I say, I'm an optimist).
That said, it has been an unusually long development process (even for Blizzard), but not long enough for vapourware status yet.
Re: Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award
This award shows actually how these people are ignorant, despite the fact that Blizzard makes this game for 4 years (or something like that)the game was in early alpha stages and only a retard would have thought that the game would be out in 2008, we all had prediction dates for 2009 even though it wasn't accurate enough and the game will likely come out in 4-5 months after beta hits. April/May 2010 is the most optimistic ETA I can ever dream off.
And how is that bad that the game needs more polishing? Isn't this actually good? The stakes are high and they know that they can't screw this up, that is why it takes soo long to balance the game to a perfect state. And those who gave that award to Blizzard should consider taking out their heads out of their asses.

As much as I want to agree with you I can't.
Blazur is right in a broad sense. I agree with you that SC2 will be one of the best RTS games ever made(and you didn't even have to say it)..BUT if you go into something like Braid, where you have this one guy for 3 years making this totally unique and revolutionary game what can you say? Want another example? Stardock and Galactic Civilizations Twilight of the Arnor. Very small company, I would imagine small development cost. The game didn't take that long to make and it was an unusually open to the public development. (which they're doing with their most recent game as well making a public Alpha and Beta , http://forums.elementalgame.com/forum/513) Both are totally brilliant games scoring around the same range as large scale Blizzard games, with Stardock's actually having endless content.
-Blizzard is throwing in so much money into this game
-It's not revolutionary at all, just perfecting a genre, which in itself is hard though
-LONG development time
What's my point?
Part of the problem for Blizzard is they are a company that has a pristine reputation; almost legendary. ALL of their games have been generally well regarded by the masses and critics. So they can't be risky, they can't innovate as much. We do see this, they recycle the same universes and the same gameplay. There are incredibly innovation games, but this isn't how Blizzard works. Blizzard still happens to be one of the best even with their mix of wanting to make the best games and making the most money. How is this company going to look far far down the line with these practices? Hopefully it will stay the same company but we'll just have to see.
That said Blizzard is tied up there with my favorite game companies/developers.
Re: Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award
Well, part of the problem is people have the assumption that there's only two parts to the game, a basic melee multiplayer and your run-of-the-mill RTS campaign. Under those pretenses it looks as though virtually nothing has been done to the game since it was first revealed in 2007 aside from a few texture swaps and some polygon changes.
I'm inclined to believe that there's more to the game then just that, and that it'll certainly be worth the remaining wait.
Re: Starcraft 2 wins Wired.com's vaporware award
i think the problem lies here,
2-3 months before beta would normally hit in 2009 , blizzard said hey i got a cool idea about battlenet2 --- and they spent 9 months doing it. when it should have been timed to be finished as soon as sc2 was beta rdy. now we might all guess battlenet 2 will blow our minds with coolnes, but it makes u wonder, at what stage was battlenet when they first announced it? concept art?
