SC2 Support Page Online
Kinda surprised there's not a topic about this here, even though it's pretty minor. I guess it slipped under the radar :P

Or maybe there is and I can't find it - I checked the news forum tho.
EDIT: Basically, until today (I think?), the SC2 box was just greyed out.

I like this statement here:
Quote:
The StarCraft® II beta is coming!

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Will opting in early improve my chances of being selected?
Beta invitees will be selected periodically from the entire pool of players who have chosen to opt in and who meet the requirements. Opting in early doesn't mean you'll be invited sooner than someone who signs up after you.
Darn.

Kinda sound like a broken record here, but we've been hearing that since Feb. of this year. Pardon me if I come across as indefinitely skeptical about any signs of progress with Blizzard.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Hey guys remember when they opened the beta opt in? Beta was IMMINENT.
Or when they had that fansite summit on June 23rd and we were all so stoked for beta and it was coming any day and it was gonna be the best summer ever?
Or like at Blizzcon when we were so certain they just HAD to announce a beta date or the world would end?
Well, it's December 18th and they've opened up the SCII support page. Beta is SO CLOSE.
Good times. :D
-
Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Guys, blizzard has never actually came out and said beta is coming. SC:L has been the only real website that has made that suggestion, and that came in april.
Blizzard has mentioned they were aiming for specific dates, but refrain from ever saying anything is "coming".
Also, if you look here:
http://us.blizzard.com/support/artic...ategoryId=3617
It seems as though they actually have a beta. It's pretty damn unbelievable to me that they'd be able to tell you how to install the game correctly after an issue, if they didnt actually have it.
Now, its possible this is all just the usual stuff they put out as troubleshooting, but I still am left thinking they added this support page because they are ready to launch the beta.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
I remember some troll on the b-net forums posted the entirety of Waiting for Godel, and replaced every mention of the word godel with starcraft 2.
I guess that means that starcraft2 is not coming, but our internal unfulfillment and antipathy traps in a state of perpetual waiting for something that can only be brought about through internal change.
And were all queers.
in regards to the OP:
I'm pretty sure nobody took it seriously because it was on the B-net forums, thus everyone assumed it to be factually incorrect and a troll.

But now it's Christmas, we deserve this gift!
Otherwise the beta, perhaps BR5

SC:L never said beta was coming either IIRC.
-
Re: SC2 Support Page Online
IIRC, Legacy hinted at something around April 1st, which lots of people assumed was beta (there was a beta key contest for that date), but the hint turned out to be about the classified press event.
Making things more confusing, there were hints that Blizzard really wanted to launch beta then, but battle.net 2.0 wasn't developed enough at that point.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Gradius, the SC:L countdown timer page never said "Beta...its coming..."?
This would explain why I remember it so clearly:
http://blizzforums.com/showpost.php?...1&postcount=21
Part of an april fools joke web page or not, it was said. I dont really think you did it as to report news or anything, but I'm not sure it matters. All i was saying is no one said beta is coming except for that one web page during the sc:l april fools joke.
-
Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Well, I have to agree with Gradius. We never heard anything related to beta from the Staff member nor any public anouncement done by LoA or Gradius.
BUT, I have to disagree as well. SC:L is an official website dedicated to an extensive and profesional review of everything related to StarCraft for the public to enjoy. Said reviews and news are made and worked out by its staff in an official manner. On the other hand we have the community within the forums, which is part of SC:L itself. Calling that SC:L did made up speculations around Beta is therefore true, but unofficial. As said community, in its self trolling or speculation phase, made public their thoughts and therefore this thoughts sticked with SC:L as many people visited the forums and watched this discusion. It is probably wrong, but most of the times credit is assigned to a particular group rather than an individual when related to the internet.
As a similar example let's take that some forum member has the worst behaviour within SC:L. Said behaviour will be attatched now to SC:L's image. Calling back to the famous cliche "The apple never falls far from the tree".

A staff member may not have said it, but I am 100% certain that the SC:L timer web page did have the exact quote "Beta...its coming" at the bottom of the page.
I never thought I would need a screenshot of that page, so of course, I doubt anyone has any proof. I would guess that Gradius and LoA might be the only ones who still have a copy of that web page. However, 8 months later may be a bit much to keep that sort of page around.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
It's all just generic information. There is nothing specific to SC2 on that support section besides the Beta FAQ.

Check again, theres some download and installing troubleshooting.
Yes, it might be generic information that will eventually come to use after the open Beta launches; but it might be part of a troobleshooting from the "Friends and Family" beta. We don't know for sure, but hell there has been a lot of strange activity lately.
-
Re: SC2 Support Page Online
All things considered though, a beta next month or early feb ain't unlikely, we've seen a lot of new stuff that sort of herald a prelude of the beta, like more mods, more blue activity, and this.

I have checked. It's all just generic "Check your firewall", "make sure you're an administrator" type stuff. Nothing at all that is specific to SC2.

Except for the actual references to sc2, but yes, I understand what you mean. I'm not really saying that this means beta is coming sooner or later, but the fact they actually say "beta is coming", which hasn't been said by anyone at blizzard before, should be considered a good sign.
Blizzard has only said they are aiming for a quarter, and that they hope to get beta out soon, etc. This statement sounds a bit more imminent.
However, the fact that they felt the need to put up tech support for sc2 also seems to be a move that can be considered a good sign. Do you really need tech support for a game thats only being played by its developers? I think this is a sign that at least someone other than blizzard devs will be playing the game soon or even currently. Hell, I can see friends and family playing the game over the next 2 weeks as sort of a christmas gift.
Anyway, I think its more of a good sign of progress, instead of a sign that beta will definitely be next month. I am happy with good signs of progress...
-
Re: SC2 Support Page Online
The opening of the support page hasn't changed my opinion that the beta should be out before the next April fools.

Agreed
But I would be happy with new updates on the sc2 site as artworks or unit renders until beta comes out

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
The great thing about saying that 'the beta is coming' is that it could still be three years away, and that statement would still be technically correct :p.

Yeah, and that could be taken that way if blizzard has been saying it all along, only they haven't been.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
lol the game hasn't even been released it yet and they have a support page for it..
pathetic.

What if you launch the game with no support. Fans would then spam your email from every direction. Better being ready than sorry.
Gots YA.

It's being released Q1 2010 (or so they say). That is 4 months away not a year. And this support is for the Beta as well, not just the retail game.

How much would you bet the Beta isn't releasing until at least the summer, and the game will be released next December.

There is really not much for them to do to the game itself. It's mostly Battle.net holding it up. Hell they have so little to do that they're improving things like the self-shadowing on trees.
-
Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Well hopefully longer SC2 development = shorter expansion development. I wouldn't mind the trade off, even if it means waiting on full release.
But I do want the beta ASAP still :P

The beta will last about 5 months. That's two quarters. There's no way a Q1 release makes any sense.
Also, I'm pretty sure Blizzard said beta would be Q1, and release in Q2, which is probably still too optimistic.

I never heard Q1 from Blizzard. I did hear "first half of 2010." That could be 7 months from now. And besides, as long as the beta isn't out, theres always a good chance that could be pushed back further.
They were saying first half back when the beta was due this year. If I don't see the beta by late January, then they won't make that deadline.

They said quarter 2, not quarter 1 release. The longer they keep beta from going out, i think the less time they actually need during the beta. I imagine even if they are adding stuff, they continue to tweak things in the game to make it better and they are finding bugs the entire time and fixing them.
I would imagine even if they go until late february without a beta, they could still release the game in the 2nd quarter. Instead of the beta lasting 6 months it would last only 4.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
It's really pretty sad when people get excited over a support page when following a game. Has is really come to this?

I think you are mistaking happiness with excitement. I would argue that most of us that believe this is good news are happy about it happening because it shows progress, however, we would prefer much more definitive and fun updates.
I don't think anything about this support page is exciting.

The tree excitement was warranted. Sometimes I like a nice bush.

Re: SC2 Support Page Online
Every day Blizzard is open they make "progress" seriously people why waste a thread on a webpage going up. Remember when they put up the beta page, which was actually just the wow beta page reused, how long ago was that? This means NOTHING.
