There isn't hard proof, just speculation-based proof.
The Void Ray appears to be the domain of the Boros clan, so presumably (like the Corsair) they existed before the Brood War started. (I say appear, because the description of what Boros tribesfolk look like sounds just like the Void Ray portrait.)
Also, Void Rays aren't well-suited to this, seeing how they're smaller than Carriers. (They used to be capital ships, but haven't been for a long time.)

But we don't know whether the Void Rays are used to glass planets or not
Almost certainly not. They're too small, and every previous depiction of purification mentioned huge ships, usually Carriers or Mothership-like things.
In fact, we have no proof the Dark Templar have ever used purification before their reunion.

and while their prismatic core is a fusion of psionic matrix & void technologies which would be perfect for glassing planets
Not anymore. This is veering back into speculation, but since Void Rays are just Dark Templar ships now, the lore from the Warp Ray page is probably very much out-of-date.

the carriers glassed planets just fine before so there's no need for any tech to be swapped. There's also no evidence that Void Rays even existed during this comic.
Yes to the first, and speculative proof saying they did exist for the second.
Re: Purification clarified
I hope the original Carrier appears in the single-player campaign at some point, or at least in the map editor. The new design does nothing for me.
I'm just having a hard time imagining how The Inauguration and StarCraft: First Contact would look with the recolored Tempests and rushed Interceptors. The original design just fit the unit better.
Re: Purification clarified
Here is the other Purification scene from the manga for comparison.

Uh where the hell are those vids from o.o? I've never seen them before. Are they from SC ghost? Or are they fanmade?

Starcraft: First Contact is fanmade.
The other one is a classic Starcraft cinematic, just in high quality.

Agreed. Does anyone know if Blizzard have actually ever given any kind of motivation for changing the awesome old Carrier model to the goat skull?
Re: Purification clarified
IIRC They said that the Protoss were overpowered on the awesome looking scale so they had to nerf the Carrier.
No but in all seriousness they are probably saving the "Banana Boat" model for the Super Carrier. Its like how Star Wars saved the Executor model for The Empire Strikes Back.

I dearly hope that's the case. I suppose it could also make sense. The new Carriers seem frail, like they're trying to strip them down in order to be more efficient with their designs (or like they recolored the Tempest and cobbled together some flying binoculars then called it a day).
Re: Purification clarified
I hope they realize that the current model sucks...

I actually like the new model. The old one was much better though, and I hope they will be reserved for kick-ass Carriers in game.
Do Carriers have any other designation besides "Carrier" and "Super Carrier?"
