Hello SCL,

I'm new here on SCL, but I've been lurking this community for a long while now. In my opinion however, this forum has been missing something: a forum RPG. Well I think it's time to set one up to help pass the time until Starcraft 2 arrives.

I've had a hard time deciding where I should post this, and I feel the Lore forum is the most appropriate area to post it. If not, then can a moderator or administrator please move this.

THE SCL STARCRAFT RPG FAQ

What is an RPG? RPG stands for "Role Playing Game." Now when I mean RPG, I don't mean the kind like RPG video games, but more like Dungeons & Dragons, only this roleplaying is done on a forum in posts and in the Starcraft universe.

How will this work? Before any roleplaying can start, we need interested players. For those who are interested in roleplaying their favorite characters in the Starcraft universe, such as Raynor, Kerrigan, Zeratul, etc., or wish to create their own original character in the Starcraft universe, then you should post your interest in this thread. Without a decent number of people, it really won't be much fun.

When will the RPG be set? The RPG setting will be set a few months after the events of Brood War. These few months after include Deception, Mercenaries II, and Resurrection IV missions as having already occurred.

How can I join? For now, simply post your interest in this thread. I will then invite you to join the SCL SC RPG. Once in, create a character application in the Content thread. Also remember to link to your application in the Character Applications thread.

If you're choosing of playing an already-created Starcraft character (like Raynor), then their background should follow what they've done in the Starcraft games/novels following the events of Brood War. Also, there will be no specific plot to this RPG: it'll be up to the players to choose what they want their characters to do.

For now, I'll only allow players to choose one major character (list below, usually those in high-rank with their respective faction) and one minor character (pretty much any named character in the Starcraft fiction that isn't a major character). Original characters count could count as either, depending on how much power that character may hold. Characters who have died before or during the events of Brood War are off-limits. Either a GM (Game Master, being me) or a sub-GM (substitute GM) will need to accept your application before you're allowed to roleplay as that character.

Major Characters: Jim Raynor, Arcturus Mengsk, Valerian Mengsk, Alexei Stukov, Samir Duran, Kerrigan, Zeratul, Artanis, Ulrezaj (possibly others)

Oh, and in case anyone is wondering: I plan on following the same rules of taking on 1 major and 1 minor character. I do think that the roles of the major characters should be filled foremost, as that'll help create to create initial conflicts and events for this RPG.

Obviously, I'm interested in joining the RP.

As for the character that I will start off as, I will probably be playing Zeratul as my major character.

I'm interested too. To bad I can't be zerg :) I'd pick a new character.

Why can't you be Zerg? You could be Kerrigan, a cerebrate (they might not all be necessarily dead right after the events of Brood War), or even some Infested Commander of sorts.

So are you interested in an actual character or not?

It would be good if everyone would mention a major/minor/made-up charatcre that they're interested in playing. For this RPG to succeed, I think we DEFINITELY need the major characters like Raynor, Kerrigan, Arcturus or Valerian Mengsk, and Zeratul for this RPG to work.

So all you know, I'm interested in Alexei Stukov, but am willing to play as Kerrigan if no one else does (but I really want Alexei :p)

EDIT: Besides, who else would fill Artanis? Doesn't everyone in the SCL community hate him? (For reasons I'm unaware of)

I'd be interested in playing. I'm in a pretty foul mood, so I can use that to channel Zeratul. =p

Well I don't hate Artanis. He's young (according to Protoss) and has plenty of years to now grow as the new Exectuor (and now Heirarch). Plus I got to play as Artanis in Starcraft vanilla Protoss campaign, and I really kicked ass as Executor Artanis :cool:

Well Sarov was interested in Zeratul, but it sounds like he's cool with that. Whichever of you two makes a good application of Zeratul (when I allow for applications to be done) first will get the role ;)

Well this is looking promising. We have someone for Zeratul, Artanis, Mengsk or Duran, and Stukov or Kerrigan. Hopefully there is someone here interested in Jimmy.

But maybe I could be Sistask, but she steps on Stukov's toes a bit much.

You can only play one character if you wish. Besides, at the rate that the major character roles could be filled once applications start, I figure pretty much all the major characters will be filled anyways (at least at the rate of interested players posting in here :p).

That's cool. We're already doing quite well in people interested in major characters, and its only been like less then 2 hours since I opened this thread.

Well that's 7 interested players so far, and counting. I may just create the "SCL Starcraft RPG" Social Group later tonight or wait until tomorrow. It'll be invite-only for posting (but will be viewable by anyone), so anyone still interested in joining in on the RPG will need to post interest in this thread so when the time comes I'll invite you in the future Group.

K well I plan on just making up a character. Probably a Goliath pilot or a Viking pilot.

You could always just be some sort of renegade Zerg like the Zergrinch lol.

Is it alright if I play a minor character rather than a major character? It seems that all the major characters are taken - except Kerrigan. I could easily play the Queen Bitch though. Pretty good at being a bitch actually.

That's fine. I have three pre-made characters (two Protoss, one terran), and I can play just about anyone else.

Well, I haven't really decided who I would be playing so you are free to take him if you really want to. In fact, it might be better if I had minor characters rather than a major and a minor.

If you don't want a major character, then you can have 2 minor characters :)

Anyways, I started up and invited everyone in here to the "SCL Starcraft RPG" Social Group (at least I think I did). So far it only shows me as a member. I'm guessing that you all might need to accept the invitation somehow.

Also if anyone in here wants to make the Social Group icon, feel free to send it to me. I'm not very artistically talented :p

Ooh, I just realized we can be zerg. (Sorry, I've only given the thread a cursory glance until now.) Maybe Morik would be interesting enough to play. I think there's enough character background and intrigue and personality for me to run with him as a character.

Thank you. I've already got several ideas for characters.

And as for being artistically talented, I am very much so. But the problem is that I don't have enough access to a computer to use something like PhotoShop or GIMP or Corel. Otherwise I'd have a lot of awesome pictures to show you guys besides the black and white or grayscale ones I already did.

I'd let you roleplay as the entire Kimeran Pirate crew if you want. If this was the case, it'd probably be best that your character would be Captain Buzan (since he's the leader of the pirates) and then you can roleplay as Morik and the other pirates as well ;)

Hopefully either of you will at least still consider RPing Zeratul, since he's a major character. But if neither of you wish too, then that's fine.

Anyways I'll continue to work the rules for the RPG and such. I'll probably have the Character Application thread created by tomorrow, and applications will be done by a first-come, first-serve basis (well the application will need to at least be decent in order to claim a specific character).


EDIT: There's something really bothering me about the Social Group: posts can only have a max of 1000 characters! That's REALLY limited. Is there any way we can increase that limit? If not, I think I have an idea (although I'm not sure if its really a good one) ...

Okay, I'm content with Buzan/Morik/Kimerans. Would this fulfill my character quota, or would I be expected to select a major character, as well?

And what of established StarCraft II characters, such as Gabriel Tosh, Matt Horner, Selendis?...

There is no "quota" to fulfill. If you just want to RP as the Kimeran pirates, then feel free to just RP as them.

Oh and you can roleplay as Starcraft 2 characters. Those that you mention I'd consider as minor characters (since I wouldn't consider them as the MAIN characters), except I'd probably consider Selendis as a major character if only due to her Exectuor-rank. Just remember that this RPG takes place RIGHT AFTER Brood War, before the beginning of Starcraft 2 ;)

Okay, sounds good to me. I've already fleshed out Morik and Buzan, so I'm ready and raring to go! :D

At least one person is ready.

As for me, since I'm going to be playing Karen as my main character I have to adapt her a bit. I won't bother to explain why but I will tell you that I'll have to redo her. The biggest problem I will be facing is deciding what faction she would be with and what her history would be. Also I have to decide which version I am using.

Either way, I can probably get the history and everything typed up tonight.

Well I've really wanted to play as Alexei Stukov since I started this RPG, but there really isn't any claiming rules in this RPG. If you make a good application before I do, then you should be able to get him. I also have Raynor or Kerrigan as backups that I'd be willing to play.

Ahh, didn't know you wanted to play Stukov. I just looked at the list of major characters and chose him cause of my obvious pro-UED stance. (as if my username didn't give that away ;) ) By all means feel free to play as Stukov, I was really more interested in my original character anyway.

I don't care who plays Stukov as long as someone does because that's necessary in order for me to play one of characters.

Semi-interested but don't really have much time and not really sure how it works. Mind if I trial with a really minor character such as Taldarin?
