SC2 Release Expectations
I'm wondering when do you people expect that SC2 will be released?
I was actually expecting it to come out last year  ,turned out it was a bit to optimistic :p
So whit all the "new info" that was released this year, what are everybody's predictions for the actual release date?
And polls are fun, nuff said:D

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Ya same here, between 6 and 9 months.
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Between 6-9 months - May-June
April at the earliest.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
I'm gonna be optimistic and say about 1 year.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
I voted 6 months but I meant to pick 9 >_<, there's no way they'll be able to do all of this with the beta not even started yet in 6 months.
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
6-9 months. I'm hoping May 31st (just after the release of StarCraft: Ghost: Spectres).

I'm hoping tomorrow but we all know hopes are meaningless.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Someone should make a statistical graph showing promised dates vs actual dates and then plot a curve to predict when the actual date will be.
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
in a year is a very realistic release date.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Somewhere between 9 months and SC2 is a lie.
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
The chances of sc being delayed a year or more I would put a very very slim.
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Wow, 9 more months. Jeez, they're certainly taking their time. I think the biggest problem is they spend way too much time playing the game and not enough time making it.

Statistically, such a graph would be uselessly skewed towards "Infinite difference."
Now, if we were to omit Duke Nukem Forever, then it'll work.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
lol, I was only talking about Blizzard games :P

Then at the high end, we get (due by Christmas j/k) StarCraft: Ghost!

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
good point lol
It still amuses me to read in the cover of the SC:Ghost novel about how the book is supposed to give a good back-story to the upcoming game XD

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
I'm gonna have to say sometime between May and July 2010.
Btw, I love how no one chose 3 months, lol

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
a year and im being optimistic...

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Wow :o , people actually expect it to be released in the next 6 months. The beta hasn't even started, heck it hasn't even been anounced :p ( they don't just start the beta, they announce it's start in advance) So with that in mind i doubt the beta will only be 3-5 months, and you have also remember it takes 1-2 months for the game to finalize and to publish .
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
hoping for beta to start by the end of November, then a Mid-May release (the day after spring semester finals, maybe?)

Plenty of betas for their previous games have started without any kind of warning announcement. Sometimes hints are dropped/leaked a day or two before.
I don't know enough about past game betas to say they've never given official warnings, but I definitely expect the first wave of beta invites to go out with little or no warning (which is usually a pretty good warning in itself, since a lot of first waves are very limited).

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
I'm predicting it comes out in June, so Ill round that to 9 months. Not only that, but Im hoping it comes out in June. Ill have a new computer by then, and it will be nice to play it for the first time on a brand new computer.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
IIRC, Warcraft III gave a one month heads-up for their beta. It was their last RTS that saw production, too.
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
I'd say in about 6 to 7 months!

Thats good to know, I think we'll get our heads up in November, then beta starts in December. And then a 6 month beta, knowing the expectations SC2 has as an e-sport.

No, that's what I was thinking, including august

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
I hope it's less than a year. Maybe 9 months, but i wouldn't hold my breath about that. I have the feeling that this is going to be a loooong beta.

Can you link to anything about that? I know they obviously got some heads up, because the beta was distributed by mailing discs, wasn't it? Didn't think it was a month though.
With WoW beta news I'm used to being told via gaming sites that "emails are starting to roll out" to select users.
I imagine SC2 would mimic WoW with a simple email -> download client.

Re: SC2 Release Expectations
Does anyone still have one of those disks? Are they playable? How about SC?
-
Re: SC2 Release Expectations
The beta disks were multiplayer only, and you can't play them on battle.net for various reasons (wrong version, etc).
Apparently someone set up a StarCraft I beta server, for anyone who either has the disk or downloaded some version of them.

I tried an emulated version of the StarCraft 1 beta a while ago, around the time I started coming to SClegacy. It was, I think, a build in December '97.
There's not a whole lot to mention, but the biggest difference was probably the game speed (fastest use to be a lot faster). That and the costs were radically different, some things costed only minerals and only gas, and resources came in 10s instead of 8s.
The zerg probably had the most differences, I remember the defiler having different looking abilities, and the overlord being really fast. The templar also has psi assault. And the zealot did 4 attacks instead of 2.
