Nice choice. Azumanga Daioh is in my top 10.
HOWEVER
The greatest anime is Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagann, and no one will ever convince me otherwise.

While I doubt that could possibly be any better than Azumanga, I'll give it a shot.
TTGL is the purest embodiment of amalgamated anime tropes.
Mechas? Check.
Animal people? Check.
Extravagant characters who demand your attention? Check.
Fanservice for both sexes? Check.
Power levels increasing to ridiculous levels? Check.
A coherent, interesting plot about the fate of the universe? Check.
An over-the-top ride of pure nonsensical fun, like Guardians Of The Galaxy or Pacific Rim? Check.

On a side note, here's a short list of anime similar to Azumanga Daioh you might enjoy:
Nichijou (all female)
School Rumble (2 seasons, dubbed)
Kill Me Baby! (all female, dubbed)
Sabagebu! (all female)
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
Cromartie High (all male, dubbed)
I like how the pinnacle of emotional conveyance in anime is to have the character twitch for a minute or two completely unable to respond to simple stimuli.
Too many kiddy animes here.
Have any of you seen Legend of the Galactic Heroes? It's a political space opera that explores an intergalactical conflict between a faction run by a democracy and a faction run by a dictatorship. What I like about it is that there's no black and white to basically anything. Both the pros and cons of democracy and dictatorship are explored and in the end they leave it for you to decide which one is better. Don't expect people with powers or giant robots in the anime. It primarily focuses on philosophical discourse.
This is my favourite anime because I haven't seen anything like it before from any medium.

That would be Legend Of The Galactic Heroes. Its Star Trekky, which is a good thing.

I tried Ergo Proxy once.
Didn't have a clue on what was going on even after 3 episodes.
Definitely one of the most bizzare animes I've ever seen.
"Bizzare" is an apt description. Its the most "unusual" one on this list for sure, with the best theme song. Kiri by Monoral is sonic bliss.
Runner up goes to Elfen Lied, which is a masterpiece of perversion I recommend purely so I can watch my friends suffer and rage :o
You lost me at "fanservice", bro. That, and ridiculous power levels is something of an anime trope, and I'm a bit tired of it. After Hunter X Hunter and Irregular at Magic High School, I kind of want to just watch a chill anime now.
Has anyone seen Eureka Seven?
1. I was exaggerating the fanservice of TTGL... mostly. One male character is normally shirtless and one girl wears a bikini top for "mobility." But its never overt nudity, even the per-requisite hot springs episode has everyone in towels.
2. The "increasing power levels" theme is in basically anything you will ever watch. The longer a show goes on, the stronger the enemies have to become to show progress. TTGL simply makes fun of the trope by taking it to the absolute maximum.
3. I still need to watch HXH but I have seen TIAMHS. Its portrayal of magic as technology was innovative but overall it was quite generic. I'm honestly surprised you sat through the incest harem crap, which has flooded the market recently much to my chagrin. Seriously, look into the list I gave of anime similar to Azumanga Daioh.
4. I'm really trying to recommend good stuff, I wouldn't steer you wrong. However, I can't really tell what you're looking for, when you say you like Eureka Seven but turn down TTGL, which is basically the same - apocalyptic mecha anime with a love story. "Chill" isn't very descriptive, so please list other anime you've liked so I can form a better idea of your tastes.
Lol, you don't have to recommend anything to me, Demo. And I wasn't watching Hunter X Hunter or Irregular because I liked them -- since I work at a used bookstore, I've been trying new anime so that I know what to recommend. Hunter X Hunter was too schizophrenic for me, and I didn't sit through Irregular. I quit in the second season, after all the interesting stuff ended and when it became clear that the protagonist wasn't going to tell off his sister. Seriously, that whole story would have been so much better if the sister character didn't exist.
And I didn't say that I like Eureka Seven, I just wanted to get other people's opinions of it. Truth be told, I don't particularly care for it. The first season had potential, but the second season was so chock full of plot that none of the characters got development, and random things kept happening simply because the plot required them to. And then it has this pretentious, ambiguous ending, which is supposed to make people feel emotional instead of just confused.
By chill, I mean something calm and relaxing, like Azumanga or Yotsuba. That's probably asking too much, as Kiyohiko Azuma is the only writer I can think of who actually writes stuff like that.
"Calm And relaxing" eh? I've got some ideas then. Here's my revised list for you, from most similar to Daioh, to least:
Nichijou
Tonari No Seki-Kun
Kill Me Baby!
Sabagebu!
Gekkan Shoujo Nozaki-kun
Minami-ke
Minami-ke: Okawari
Minami-ke: Okaeri
Minami-ke: Tadaima
My Bride Is A Mermaid
School Rumble
School Rumble 2
Cromartie High School
Seitokai Yakuindomo
Seitokai Yakuindomo* (season 2)
Gugure! Kokkuri-san
Kamisama Kiss
Girls Und Panzer
Note: Things get more serious from this point (ie. death, real romance)
The Devil Is A Part Timer
Little Busters!
Little Busters! Refrain
Little Busters! EX
Suzuka
Honey And Clover
Honey And Clover 2
Angel Beats
Rumbling Hearts
Spice & Wolf
Spice & Wolf 2
Mushishi
Mushishi Zoku Shou
Since I've spent some time putting down anime, I think it's only fair to say that I thought Cowboy Bebop and Ghost in the Shell were actually pretty alright. Not that anyone cares.
I didn't like Cowboy Bebop. It's well made, just too dang depressing.
Thanks for the list, Squiddoodles. That should be a good start on trying new things. :D
Hm, loved me some Ergo Proxy and Death Note.
Since I`m currently watching it, as its still airing (episode 14 of 24 just released today), if anyone wants a good look into the actual process of making anime, I recommend Shirobako. Its light-hearted and funny, good for Nissa. I would have put it on my list for her but excluded it because, as I said, its not done airing yet.
