New battle.net launch for WOW - possible start for SC2 BN2.0 servers
Quote:
In preparation for the launch of these new features, on November 11, 2009, all current World of Warcraft players will be required to merge their World of Warcraft accounts with a Battle.net account in order to log in to the game. As our way to say "thanks" for taking a moment to go through the process, existing World of Warcraft accounts that upgrade to Battle.net (including those that have already switched over) will receive a brand-new penguin in-game pet -- check for him in your in-game mailbox later this week. Starting on November 11, all World of Warcraft players will need to log in to the game using a Battle.net username and password, and anyone who wishes to create a new World of Warcraft account will need to start with a Battle.net account.
As some people said that 2-3 months after BlizzCon Beta should be out since it's almost ready than something near 11 November is very possible to start Battle.net servers for StarCraft 2 and start the Beta.
I think that the beta will be out till the end of November and I even put my Beta Keys that till 6 of December the beta will be out.

Re: New battle.net launch for WOW - possible start for SC2 BN2.0 servers
There is already a thread about this and it has nothing to do with StarCraft 2 or its beta. It's simply a deadline for people to merge their WoW accounts with a Battle.net account. No new Battle.net features are launching and no beta is going to be starting.

I've not forgotten our little bet, spychi.

If beta isn't out by the 6th of Dec. you owe me a beta key. This is twice now you've wagered on that date. If you fail to deliver then all your credibility is lost, along with your fansite's credibility.

Well, about this thread, it actually relates to a different set of blue posts than the last one. Both of which are the same information though.
Now there may be a general consensus that "battle.net servers won't be up then"... there is another point to consider, which is the nature of the battle.net 2.0 testing. By requiring everyone on World of Warcraft to update to b.net accounts finally, this means that they must have enough of an infrastructure in place to allow them to consider testing b.net on the WoW side of things. In other words, this is a major announcement in terms of beta release.
What I suspect will be the case (Note the word suspect, therefore, speculation) is that they will incorporate WoW's B.net implementation, They will then open Starcraft 2 beta. This will allow them to open a 3.31 patch to test out cross realm communication relating to this, then later go all in with cross game communication.
Blizzard would not set this requirement if they haven't overcome a hurdle. You don't make these decisions on a whim, something prevents you from doing it over time, and that preventative issue is no longer the case.

Something is changing therefore something must have changed.

No it means that they want all the accounts to be handled by the Battle.net system now instead of having two separate login verification servers for classic WoW accounts and Battle.net merged WoW accounts.

Every time something like this pops up people run around screaming "BETA IS COMING! BETA IS COMING!" and then act disappointed when it turns out to be nothing.

I highly doubt that. They will more than likely be incorporating the WoW related Battle.net functionality in the Cataclysm expansion. I don't see them making the Battle.net team work on WoW stuff when they could have them working on functionality needed for the SC2 beta, which they are trying their hardest to get out.

They have had stability issues with the Battle.net login verification servers for WoW for a while, which I suspect was why they didn't do this any sooner. It has absolutely nothing to do with the StarCraft 2 beta.

The WoW battlenet features tied to cataclysm are directly related to the SC2 battle net improvements.
In order to support intergrated voice chat cross wow->starcraft, their needs to be some drastic serverside and clientside changes to be done. It would seem so vastly idiotic to convert everyone to a new battlenet framework if it was due to be replaced by the battlenet 2.0 framework, which will release with sc2.
Thus the new battlenet changes are directly related to visible progress with the battlenet 2.0 issues that are delaying starcraft and its beta release.
If blizzard is ready for a large scale movement of wow accounts, that would mean most of the netcode and serverside stuff is done.
While obviously a early november beta is unlikely (if that could happen, I bet they would have already released news by now), It really does create a lot of new hope for a 09 beta.

Since you were nice enough to reply in your normal frustrated tone... I figured I'd reply with something calming. He said I'm allowed to share these lines as they can be deduced as public knowledge.

Jack Doe: Saw both the screenshots and I can say that your ass is right. We did overcome a major code milestone that allowed us to do the manditory account swap in November.
Jack Doe: This milestone affects the progress of battle.net as a whole. There is no "WoW side" or "Starcraft side" of the project at this time. A lot of people can't grasp that it's a different project even if it integrates with a game.
On another note, there are sources in the wow community that say that "cross realm communication" is going to be implemented into wow before Cataclysm. As Starcraft 2, and therefore Battle.net 2.0, will be released before Cataclysm, therein you will find the basis on my speculation. For those who don't understand this, cross realm communication is possible by means of the Battle.net 2.0 technology.
